ok this is what i have done, the engine is in, 100%. nothing is unplugged, no vacuum lines are missing, broken, or unhooked. derrik's engine ran perfect, so, i have put the cam sensor from his old motor on the new one, i changed the egr valve, i changed the fuel pump that he brought me, i changed the injectors off his motor to the new one, i took all the coil packs off my 97 and tried them, i took derrik's BLX3 tuned computer out, and put in a stock BLX3 computer from my house in it, we went through a whole can of carb cleraner alllllllllllllllllllllllllll over the engine, no changes from all of this, the spark plugs were put in saturday night, they are motorcraft platinum's, 7 out of 8 are jet black already, the car is now making smoke when i rev it, it smells so rich it burns my eyes in the shop, derrik told me the cats are hollow'd out, the 3rd cat is eliminated, all 4 02 sensors are plugged in, one of his upstream 02's i noticed had a ripped wire when i removed the exhaust, so i replaced it with a brand new one that i had as a spare for my 97. the only thing left as far as electrical stuff to try is another crank sensor, but if the car starts and runs how could it be the crank sensor, unless like brandon said maybe they damaged the crank sensor at the junk yard when they removed the ac compressor. my buddy brian seems confident that with the way its running, and the symptoms, he thinhs its electrical and not mechanical, he feels pretty good about the motor not being a bad motor. i'm gonna try to do a compression check tomorrow after work, if i cant figure it out with a few more things i dont know what else i can do. i have checked everything over and over and over i didnt forget anything during the swap, the engine is all back the way it came from the factory. i am so lost. the car really needs to be put on a scanner and run and have live feed to see what is going on, i dont have a scanner so i dont know what i am supposed to do. this :q:q:q:qing car has me so irritated i'm ready to push it outside and forget about it.
charlie sent me a tip about the rockers, if a head or motor is turned over and the cam is in a certain position where the lobe is off the rocker, a rocker can fall out, i did have the motor upside down, to change the oil pan gasket, after i flipped it back over, i did the valve cover gaskets, you can clearly see in this picture, that the #3 cylinder rocker arm is still in place, this is the one that fell out, so its plain as day that i didnt cause the rocker to fall out, just another thing i want to point out before anyone tries the blame game, look in this pic and you can see all 4 of the exhaust rockers
