LaserSVT 98 White Pearlescent Progress Thread

Yeah I am really thinking the j-mod and a trans cooler will be done this spring. Since I can do it on the car I dont want to lay on a concrete slab in this weather.
I need to get my tune taken care of first as well as the fenders rolled..... and a hundred other little things. Install driveshaft, trak loc, gears, brakes, stereo, get double x-pipe, center caps for the wheels, dent removal, full detail..... I better stop before I get a head ache.

And yeah someone will get a great deal on my old 97. Have a couple offers and I am entertaining the one that would keep the car in this state. :)

Hopefully that leak isn't coming from the rear engine seal. Make sure it's oil and that it is in fact coming from that hole. It could also be the front seal behind the torque converter that's leaking or the drain bolt for the TC may be leaking.

If you have to drop that trans, J-Mod that thing and replace both front and rear seals. You'll love it. Do not attempt that job alone. All the parts from Max for the J-Mod and both seals are $27 to the door. Gaskets and everything.

Also check the "oil level sensor", at the rear on the drivers side of the pan.
I've seen a couple of those leak

Tommy, I cant come this Saturday. :( The new LSC has been darting left when I hit the brakes and then darting right when I let off. I just saw that the pasenger front caliper is leaking from the piston seal so I have to swap them Saturday before I make the drive. Then on Sunday I have local stuff I have to do. What does the 23rd look like for you? Id love to come down then and show off the Mark.... even though it wont have center caps on the wheels. I am sending them to Geno on Monday after I do the brakes this weekend. :D

Anywho, work was slow as hell today so I got my calipers ready and painted them myself. Gonna get some high temp clear on the way home (if they even make it) cause I am happy with how they turned out. I will post some good pics when I get home but here is a teaser. :wrench

them calipers are sick you should sell paint them for all of us mark 8 owners who wants a set i now i do but you already now why but think about it and let me know

OK so here are all the recient updates. Finnished the brakes and will install them this weekend.... I hope, got 28 PMs today for parts off the 97.

Then some ass hat in a SUV backed into my car and messed it up and made me want to kill anyone.... unfortunatly nobody else was in the parking lot so I had to leave a very very long tire patch in the parking lot.
abacab.jpg

Got home and buffed it out and applied allot of Nissan White Cloud touch up paint to get me by untill I can install the new bumper. Thats gonna be a month or so because I am not driving around with a white bumper and besides, i want it completly covered in white so it apears more factory. I hate it when there is paint covering a gap, just a pep peeve of mine.

IMGP0499.jpg

Then it was the simple things that made me happy. My floor mats showed up.... then I realized why I like my old tan ones more. They say LSC on them and my white car says Mark VIII. Never knew the real LSC mats were so much nicer and plush.

Oh well at least I dont have to stare at that red stain any more. :D
Old stained and burned ones on the right.

IMGP0520.jpg

those arent geuine ford mark VIII floor mats thats why they look different those are knock offs you can tell just by the edge of the mats. but, they look 10 x's better than the old ones, and so does the back bumper, really isnt that bad after you cleaned it up and hit some touch up paint on it. i'd live with it for now.

Well then they prolly will not stay long as I search for real LSC mats. :(

I guess I am gonna call around to the window places and have one come out to swap windows with my 97 since its rear seal is still nice.

Cool beans. Guy will come out Monday to swap rear windows on the cars for $75. :wrench

Then on Feb 1st it goes into the shop to have the dent on the side removed and the new bumper painted then installed. :)

Another small update.

The fender roller has not showed up yet but FedEx says it will be here tomorrow. Its been raining like crazy so I have to wait for the ground to dry a little before I can work on taking off the suspension and brakes off the old car cause they are sold so I figure I can do my brakes tomorrow.

Also discovered today that my passenger air strut is leaking and since the rears and drivers one are all new OEM parts that meens I get to spend $400 on a new one for the passenger side. Fuggin cars.

So I will order a new one from Maxx on Monday.

Also bought a laser temp gun to make sure I heat the paint correctly for the fender roll tomorrow. I like my car and want to keep this one so I wana make sure I do stuff right the first time.

So here are the new lines. They seem to be real nice quality and even though they were not neccessary I really wanted them.

IMGP0526.jpg

Todays progress whs nothing near what I had hoped.
A couple dollar bolts kept the brake upgrade from getting done and the stripping of the 97 ate up too much time and I still have to remove the computer, suspension, brakes and wheels tomorrow.
I was also hoping to get the stereo installed but by the time the sun went down I was too beat.

I did get the fenders rolled today! What an easy tool to use and with my laser temp gun I got the paint just right, no cracking. Just took my time and heated up a 6" long section to 135* then rolled 3-4 inches. I did the whole fender sections I thought needed to bend and then re-did each section two more times. Didnt want to bend the metal too much at once. I also cut off the bumper upper screw mount as the tires were rubbing there too. I figured I could experiment with this bumper since I will be putting on a new one anyway. I works though so I will do a little smoother cut on the new bumper before I bring it in for paint.
After that I sensor lowered the car 1" and then hit my bumpy ass road at some sufficient speeds and had ZERO rubbing. :wrench Thats just what I wanted, lower and no rub. I am a very happy mug. :)

So here are some pics and it shows where the tires were rubbing. Unfortunatly when I changed camera settings I also switched it to preview only and a dozen pics were never saved. :(

http://www.rollyourfender.com/rentalpakage.html

Price has gone down a bit. You just pay $250 and then when you send it back (5 days after you get it) he refunds you minus $50 rental and shipping both ways (he gives a FedEx return lable. My shipping cost was $26 total so it only cost me $76 to rent it. :)

Good looking progress. You'll feel so good when you have everything accomplished and get to give it a good bath. :)

PS- after another look at that last pic, I notice it looks as if you used full length bolts that came with the swaybar kit.
If you can get shorter bolts to level the bar, (now that you've lowered the car they're probably no longer level) ... You'll notice what the bar really does for you.

Yeah when I order some more parts from Bill at SCP I will order some shorter end links. Wish the parts stores sold them here or I would go get a set right now.
Actually the longer bolts make the sway bar have a higher pre-load on it and makes its firmness similar to the 1 3/8" bar.

Really? I don't know, ... I'll slide before I get any body roll at all. Take city corners at 30 and if I take it agressive enough to slide a bit, she doesn't even shake when she's done sliding. Everybody in the car simply slides to one side. Car doesn't move. I'm using larger grade 8 bolts, I bent everthing that's offered for aftermarket, and I've even broke a set of grade 8's. Some may not like that, though. Shorter is definately more firm, for it doesn't even have time to preload or roll.

PS- I didn't catch that you have the 1.25, I'm running the 1 3/8.

Yeah I am running the 1.25 cause I wanted it to not be overly hard on these lousy back country roads. Now that I have air I kinda wish I would have purchased the larger bar. Oh well I will get one in the front and am sure it will help out a bit.

So todays progress was just installing the system and then getting the deck mounted better then before. It was sunk in 1/4" and just didnt look right so I brought it flush and made a trim ring. The flash has shown me some imperfections in it though so I am gonna have to make another one. :(

Gonna get that damn dome light fixed tomorrow and get the new brights in.... couldnt unscrew that damn bulb bezel for nothing today.

IMGP0549.jpg

And that brings us to today. Today I did something that most of you would take for grandid, I made my dome light work. :D
IMGP0566.jpg

The ground just wasnt good and you had to push up on the housing to make the lights work. So I went through the hassel of dropping the headliner to track the issue. Couldnt see why there would be one and so I ran a new ground wire to it. Works perfect now. :D

And yes, that small hole was there already. :(

Next up was to get the damn brights in. That plastic bezel just did not want to unscrew. Finnaly got it off and put in some 6000K brights to match the HIDs. I also polished the lenses and they seem pretty clear. :)

The last part I am waiting for is the window dude to get here to swap rear windows on the Marks. My 97s has one ripple in it but its much much better then this crap.

IMGP0562.jpg

IMGP0563.jpg

Well that was interesting. Guy came out and was real leery of doing the job being concerned it would break the glass and didnt want to do that in my only car. I suggested taking it off the bad car first since thats the glass I want anyway. So He has at it while I am putting my tools away and he goes into the car with this big ass Dewalt 18v ..... I think it was a recip saw with a putty knife on it.
So I hear this sound that is similar to using an air chisel on a weld. So I go watch him get the glass out. He says he ripped the tint in a couple spots. :( But he gets it out without breaking it. :) He then tells me since my office is next to his that he will take the window with him and and retint it for me and I can drop the car off with him tomorrow. I showed him I wanted the other windows darker too so he is gonna do the whole car for a pretty cheap price. Should look :q:q:q:q tomorrow. :D

I remember having the 93 window put in my 94. He used the same thing to remove it. The upper corners is where he had most of his trouble but he got it done without breaking either glass. It was scary though, listening to it. :)

I'm just glad that the 95 doesn't have the first ripple in it anywhere. Looks like we're both going to be tinted this week lol

You're getting it looking good. Keep it up!

Look in the phone book for leather and upholstry repair, they should be able to fix that headliner for you for pretty cheap. Most of them are mobile too, so they'll come to you.

Are you just going to throw that glass away? If you are, throw it in the empty 97 carcass and we'll continue our talk! Cause, I want to shave my 1st gen antenna, but need a gen 2 window prior. And I have flush mounted glass anyways so that seal doesn't matter.

Yeah, you'd be surprised what they can do Bill. I saw a NASTY gash in a white leather couch get fixed and even knowing where it was I still can't tell.

As soon as I get it back I will check that out with the head liner. Thanks. And yeah I was planning on bringing the glass back home with me. He said hes just gonna cut the seal off on that one to insure the car does not get dammaged. :D
BTW, I am not getting any bites on the engine and trans. I wanted to sell them before you took the shell and whats left of the interior. Maybe I am asking too much at $350 for the two. :(
