Gen 1 Headlight Project w/ HID install

You sure about that? The keyfob is Lincoln, but that doesn't mean everything is. The only ones I've seen do that are aftermarket, or perhaps something from a newer model...

I can show you another that does it and I know it's all factory. I did add a 147db siren and removed the horns but even before the siren was added, the horns would have a split second blow. My 94 also done the same exact thing with the factory setup. My dads 93 that was t-boned done it too.

Yes im 100 percent sure theres no aftermarket alarm crap in mine...:)

Hi Miha!

Ugh - I deleted them by accident when I was trying to substitute a picture!

I'll try to find some and if not will make new pictures in due course!

The process is firmly in my mind - tell me where you're at and I can walk you through the whole process start to finish - not hard at all!

Headlights and other

Hey, I finally got around to trying this on one of my old housings. It turned out ok. I used a burnishing tool to spread the film on the housing. I only did a small section as to not waste film. anyhow, I found that (its either 3m or loctite) marine epoxy I have, which says it sets in an hour, seemed the easiest to work with, and leaked out the least.

I also had a few questions for y'all. I have a 95 LSC, and I am doing a sequential taillight conversion. I found the writeup on the TorqueBook forum, and I have most of the project done. I am a bit sketchy on these, since I was told to use 1157 bulbs and they almost touch the plastics and lenses. I don't want to melt anything so I am switching to LED bulbs.
Since we are on the topic of Trim Brite, does anyone think it would be wise for me to coat the taillight housing in that? It is a greyish-tan on the inside, with about 0 reflective quality. The LED bulbs I am buying are ones I use in my motorcycle, and they are about 50$ a piece, lifetime warranty, and very bright, but I feel a lot of light will be wasted. So I guess the real question is, does anyone know how difficult it is to seperate the lens from the housing on the taillights? It appears its just some clips, but I am not sure. thanks.

Hate to triple post, but...

I just wanted to keep these things seperated. This one is probably the most relevant to this thread...
I was about to pull my Driver's side headlight to clean/rechrome it, as I have replaced the passenger with OEM housing a couple of years ago. I found a set of 96 HID housings for cheap and picked them up and buffed the lenses.
My two questions here are:
1:would the factory HID housing benefit from the rechroming process just the same as the halogen version?
2: I have a set of aftermarket 9005 HID's currently in use. If I do decide to go ahead and install the HID housings, would it be wise to use these in the high beam spots? A couple of years back, I saw a post about using aftermarket HID kits in the '96 factory housings(low beam side). There was someone who made plastic/rubber rings for retaining the bulbs. Does anyone know who that may have been? (It was a black plastic piece, with the three screw holes around the perimeter, grooves to hold the 9005/9006 bulb, and a rubber piece to insulate it)

ah, crud, I do have one last question. since I have installed my HID's, I can't seem to get them straight ahead. I don't know if my aiming problem is due to a probable collision prior to my ownership (of which i don't know the magnitude) or that I maybe missing some of these "clips" y'all keep mentioning. Ideas? Does anyone down in Houston,TX work with headlights much?

Hey, i did the install of the HID kit from the auction site and the ballasts stopped working immediatley. Callled their techs to troubleshoot and they said people with mark viiis' are continually calling about problems. Just to inform you guys about to do this install, you need a relay kit with the HID conversion kit. before you buy, make sure you have this in the kit or buy it seperatly. basically, instead if getting the voltage from the 9005 light circuit plug, it gets the voltage direct from the battery with more amperage to drive the ballasts properly. Appearantly when they say Plug and Play, it doesnt apply to most domestic cars. The stock wiring for the 9005 circuit is too high of gauge. the relay kit has a lower gauge to provide more current. the relay kit also has an input that you plug your 9005 plug into. it uses your stock switching system to turn the lights off/on. the relay senses the switching and switches itself to pass voltage. Anyway, it all makes sense but what doesnt make sense is that they said my kit was plug and play when i bought it. They offered the relay kit to me discounted. They also said their HID Conversion kits for 2009 will include the relay kit. Just verify before buying. Good Luck.:)

Hi, did they say it was a relay needed only for their kits? I have a kit that was about 250$ and the lights flash bright when I first turn them on, then dim and warm up gradually. I believe them to be bright once warmed up, but I wanted to verify.

This just an idea of what they look like in my residential area and no, they were not aimed when I took these pics last night but now they are aimed. It's been raining here and I found that having a long stretch of street in front of you works best when aiming these.

WOW. Something must be seriously wrong with mine. I have the 6000K white HIDs and I still cannot see worth a damn. I know part of it is in the aiming, but one of my housings is almost brand new. I guess I have to pull the front apart and see if something is bent, not allowing me to aim them correctly?

You may need to do some re-chroming on the inside of the housing and make sure the lens is clear. Those housings were like new and had good chrome with no burn. Now they are completely melted away lol.

Just a J/k.

Mind, I do think it's a good idea to have a compact extinguisher mounted in a vehicle. I had a Ford Escort saloon, many moons ago, that burst into flames while I was driving! - never did find out why, but an extinguisher would have been handy. :)

I don't have a fire extinguisher in my car, but I carry a 2 liter bottle of club soda. lol

well mine is not aftermarket... i always noticed it just a slight unnoticeable flash with the halogen bulbs. Once i put the HID's in when i press the lock button twice as the same time the horn blows they fully flash for a split second. And i also put LED's in the rear and now they flash as well. I'll post a youtube video one of these days.

Mine does that as well. I have 95 LSC

So I am guessing that having the halogens in them for about a year screwed whatever chrome was in them?

No, the housings were still like new condition. I blew the car up and it burned.

Damn. Might I ask what started that?
Hah, I was right, my friend insisted my hood is aluminum, but that picture proves it is fiberglass. Maybe his 97 has an aluminum hood.

You having a Gen 1, your hood is not aluminum but the 97 and 98's are. My stupidity of messing with injectors and not checking for leaks before starting is what lead to that. It happened while at idle, inside the garage. Knocked the back wall 8" off a concrete foundation and blew all the windows out of the garage and warped 2 steel doors in the garage. I was inside the car with the windows up and only suffered a cut leg from jumping out into the driveway into glass. That's all I got to say about that. :)

just curios has any one tried to shave down the inside the lens on the 1st gens? would it give it a similar appearance to HID's.. or look like crap?

Virtually impossible and even if, the housing itself is still different on the inside. Not a lot and some wouldn't even notice but there is a slight difference.

just got done reading that. its a nice write up. but i need a little help.

I want to put a set of 4300k hid's in.

what do i need to get?

Thanks in advanced!
