The battery started going dead overnight from a 3 amp draw. I tracked it down to a module behind the rear seat, accessed from the trunck. Turns out it is the suspension control module. $800 at the dealer, $50 at the salvage yard. Everything is working now.
A while back the 2000 STS with F45 started showing a "service suspension system" display on the DIC intermittently, now it's on all the time and the rear end of the car is riding very low. I don't hear the ELC compressor running at all. Checked for current codes, this is what I have:

Yep, the front end on these things do sit pretty low. You really have to be careful around parking stops.
I've adjusted my headlamps to optimize the high beams and don't worry so much about the limited illumination of the low beams. I depend heavily on the driving lamps and they are...

I use passing other vehicles as an excuse to WOT when ever possible.
Thanks for the input!
I just did a search and read my own advice to someone else.
Somebody else 'picked up' the oil and filter for me and got a filter that did not have an anti-drain back valve. I'll try replacing...
2000 STS
As I pulled the car into the shop to change the oil the 'check oil level' indicator came on and I noticed a tapping noise that seemed to be coming from the lower engine. I didn't think anything about the low oil level light because I knew it was low. After I changed the oil and...
CF5 - SUN, GLASS, SLIDING, ELEC
It's not aftermarket and it has 2 switches, one for open (one push and it opens all the way) and one for vent. When it slides completely forward the back end goes up some and then goes back down to the sealed position. If my model is different than...
That's the way it is here for at least classic vehicles. The DMV wanted me to pay taxes on blue book for a '66 Mustang. I had to get a written statement from the seller that detailed why he was selling it for the claimed amount. I don't remember for sure, but I think I had to get estimates on...
They must have modified the setup by the time the 2000 model came out. Mine goes forward all the way, the back goes up like vent and then comes back down to the closed position. It does all this as one cycle.
The fitting at the master cylinder is flared. If you put a plug in there, the sealing surface will most likely be damaged and you'll have to replace the master cylinder. It depends where the leak actually is as to where the "quick fix' should be applied. I do not recommend this because of...
I'm not sure on the '97 where they are exactly, but in general they're going to be at the door pull handle/strap, the armrest (if separate), and the door release handle. I have not had the need to take mine off my 2000, but I just looked at it. There is a visible screw at the very bottom of...
I am proud of all our military. I have several family members in the Navy and Marines (past and present), so I favor that branch. I shed tears of pride and loss for a good friend that was in the Army in Iraq, he is buried in Arlington now. I know that even stateside you have to keep your...
Check with your local glass company for advise on what to use. I heard that plain silicone is corrosive and weatherstrip adhesive is not a sealer. Some adhesives are so good at what they do it’s imposable to remove the weatherstip again if you need too. Last stuff I used was ‘Seal All’ and it...
