2003 Lincoln LS V-8 Sport, 106K miles. Red with black interior and looks sharp! I am second owner and have had it since 32K miles. Car in Houston,Texas. No rust. Factory HID headlights. Changed high beam bulbs to match HID's in low beams. Upgraded front speakers, Added flexible SS brake lines...
Well I got it fixed!!!
The problem was the FEM. I got a used one off Ebay for a reasonable price. Matched the part number exactly. Paid Ford $90 to program it and the car is now fixed!
Steering just like it should and boy is the wife happy now!
With your codes I am very sure you also...
Thank you and I did get my ScanXL software working and I did finally pull codes C1924 and C1925 the same as you did. I get the same two codes regardless if the VAPS solenoid is plugged in or not. I erased the codes several times and made sure they did come back and did repeat.
I was able to...
I am fighting this on my 2003 LS V-8. I can't get any codes but think the normal auto parts store scanners can't see that deep into the system?
What did you use to get those codes?
The system changed a bunch with the 2003 upgrade because it uses a different steering rack. But the trouble...
A few more STR corrections.
The 2003-2005 STR did not have VVT (Variable Valve Timing). The regular 4.2L S Type did. In 2006 VVT was added to the 4.2L SC STR. We are not completely sure but it looks to be added for emissions reasons and NOT for added power. To further confuse things around...
Great job! A few errors about the STR in this thread. I have a 2005 STR and a 2003 LS V-8 sport. It is amazing how much stuff is the same or very close!!
The STR came out in 2003. Only had the 4.2L super charged V-8. The 2003-2005 cars had the best equipment with the great fixed caliper...
You do know the V-8 Lincoln LS is limited to 135 mph? Yes my 2003 V-8 sport will pull right up to 135 mph and then hold it.
So anyone getting more than that has a programmer or can't read the speedometer!

Do you know about the Sonnax Pre stoke spring repair kit?? I think that is your problem. Take a look here:

Here is a picture of the parts bag.

Be careful guys!! I searched high and low for the correct VENTED battery for my 2003 LS. I NEVER found the proper aftermarket one. Got the correct Motorcraft one from Ford for about $120. Higher than I like to pay but the factory battery was still working after 6 years and I just replaced it...
If the 16mm lower ball joint for the 2003-2006 Lincoln LS is available separate then post a link. It is NOT available without the entire lower control arm.
I have been waiting for a couple of years because somebody will eventually make them!!

You have the later and better 16 mm stud lower ball joint. No one offers just the ball joint yet. You still need to purchase the entire lower control arm. This is not all bad because you also get new bushings. These rarely get changed but will give some of that new car ride back!!

This is an error?? They do not have a separate lower ball joint for the later Gen II Lincoln LS. As of right now the only way to get the lower ball joint is with the complete lower control arm. I am still hoping they will release the later version!!

I also recommend changing brake fluid. I do this on my 2003 LS about every 30K miles. I always use the pedal pump method. It gives a very thorough flush. I also have a power brake bleeder but it does not seem to do as good a job? Never had a master cylinder problem but the car is only at 78K...
