well.... i need my music! radio help?

it looks good. how long have you bin using it. and how good is it? photos?

I like the looks of it being a single din style because everything is even and not one big knob on one side and a screen on the other. I can't remember exactly when I installed it but it was during the summer but Jamie installed his long before I did. Mine stayed in the box for a few months until it warmed up outside.

As for the quality of sound, I really don't think I could ask for better, considering the price. I can go out in the garage and get you some pics of it. Give me a little bit and I'll post you some up. I'll turn on the parking lights so that the dash lights will come on and you can see how the stereo matches perfect in color.

By no means am I saying that it's the best stereo out there lol. I'm just recommending it because it has a good look to it, the lighting matches and Kenwood eXcelon isn't junk and not something you can buy at Wal-Mart.

Maybe Jamie will chime in on how he likes his and the sound quality.

Check out the single din that me and Jamie both have. It's a Kenwood eXcelon KDC-X993 and it has the ability to change colors to match exactly what your dash lights look like in the green color. Color number 7 I think it is. It also has bluetooth capabilities so you can talk on the phone hands free and it has a USB cable for your iPod or w/e you want to connect to it. It has very good sound and a million settings for everything. Main thing, it doesn't cost an arm and a leg.

I can get some pics of mine while I have the dash lights on and then you can show ole dad and see if he says it looks like sh!t or not. Jamie will probably post his too. It has what you're looking for and then some.

$179 to $229

Says discontinued but they can still be found new. You'll also need to get a (I prefer Metra) brand double din install kit and it fits in there like a glove.
Metra Electronics Radio Install Kit

Part Number: 99-5802 You can even read text messages from the deck. You don't have to
but if you get in the car with the bluetooth turned on, it starts downloading all of your contact info and messages without you having to do anything. If a call comes in, you don't even have to touch anything. 2 to 3 rings and it answers itself, the volume mutes
and you just say "hello" and they can not tell you are talking to them through a stereo and their voice comes through all of your speakers in the car.

This is a sideways glance of it but I'll get you a pic of it with lighting to show that it matches to a "T" in color and it doesn't look odd. Comes with a nice velvet face cover if you want to take it in the house with you.

lol, see the button just to the left on the bottom, right next to the right side knob? Push that button and then scroll to setup and press the knob. You should be able to figure out the rest from there. You can change the display itself or the outer line color or make one half red, blue, yellow, green, grey, pink, purple and the other half w/e color you want but I keep both of my display colors on #7 so that it matches everything else.

I got pics but now I have to upload them.

Ok, here are some various pics from different angles and lighting and colors.

The microphone is clipped to my visor and I have asked many if they could tell they were talking to me through the stereo and they say it sounds like I'm right on the phone. Pic might be a bit dark.

NoLimit95, looks nice, but is up with that 12.9 and 13.1 mpg? Kinda low isn't.

I have been stomping on it the last few times I drove it, trying to get it back in the garage before it rained. Plus, one morning, someone pissed me off that was behind me because I was letting some people turn in front of me so that they could make it to the school drop off line on time or they'll close it down and this guy behind me in a Toyota blew his horn at me. SO...... I laid the rubber down right there at the light and it's been parked there since Friday because it's been raining here for 2 or 3 days and I drive the truck in the rain.

It really gets around 25 to 28 on the HWY and normally around 16 in the city.

DAMN THAT LOOKS AMAZING!!!!!

Well, in my situation, that's not all I installed but I could put that deck in and rewire all 4 speakers in the car within a few hours. Please don't use factory wiring. Anyway, I swapped all 4 speakers inside and added 2 amps and 3 subs in the trunk. So... I got time invested but just a deck install can be done within an hour easily.

Did you show pops? IMO, it looks way better than any stock stereo and has features that a 16 year old stereo don't have.

he REALLY REALLY liked it. and im with you, it looks almost factory!

and why should i not use the factory wiring? i was just going to put on a new head unit. im not looking to put in new amps and speakers. i dont need every one at school to hear my music, even though they do anyways :D

I think you'll need a line inverter if you don't run your own speaker wires. Don't think you can throw 50 watts into the factory amp that's mounted in your trunk. I have never done it so I can't be recommending how to connect like you're wanting to. It can be done, I do know that, I always just do a complete rewire and rip out everything, deck, speakers, amp and install all of my own. Please keep in mind that this stuff is 16 years old. Speakers are dry rotted and the amp is most likely on it's last leg.

Someone on here that has installed aftermarket into their existing factory system will have to take over here. I have some JL Audio 2-way 5X7's I'll put on your for $40.00 and free shipping. All you'll need is another set of 5X7's and do all your own wiring and you'll be much happier.

Setting in the trunk:

I have the perfect little setup for you that would sound good and give a little kick in the trunk. All that would be required for this is 8 gauge power wire and I would even include a Rockford Fosgate distribution block and (some) 8 gauge wire. I also have a pair of the JL Audio 5X7's (I only got one out of the closet) but you would need another pair of something decent and you would have a good sounding upgrade from factory, provided you upgrade the stereo itself. All of the pictured items work perfectly. Just an idea for you or anyone else wanting to do a minor upgrade from factory.

No, I have no clue just yet on what the price for this stuff would be just yet.

Ive alwys disliked single din units in din 3/4 and double din setups. Always looked aftermarket to me.

As for supplying a signal to the factory amp you can get a set of cheap RCA wires, cut the leads off and attach them to the wire harness adapter on the smaller plug as if they were the decks speaker wires. You then plug the RCAs into the decks RCAs and voila, eliminates the need for a line convertor. Done it many times on Ford premium sound systems.

It will sound better if you just bypass the factory amp though and just use the new decks internal amp which is not only cleaner but has more wattage then the old JBL amps. The JBL amp only puts out 11 watts RMS per channel.

Double din FTW!!

ah, too much info at one time..... LOL

im not looking to upgrade speakers, or amps just yet. and i have no clue how to do so. im just looking to do the head unit. and i think im going to let me Best buy do it for me. :D

anyone want to give me a run down on how to re-wire and add amps/subs...

Just watch your spidey sense, half the ones on craigslist are probably stolen.

Yep, some shady people out there.

I got a smoking deal on some Infinity Kappa's.
The guy was a best buy installer.

You do have to watch you butt dealing with craigslist.

are these the RCAs that would go to an aftermarket amp normally then?
i tried that with my alpine head unit and stock amp. didn't work..
