Rare Part...

DO NOT take your vehicle to the dealer for any reason or you will pay them money to accomplish nothing...
.

well by removing the car from your presense allowed your thought process to resume and you'd concluded what the problem, not to mention had detailed documentation to guide you thru the process.

I would have disputed the 200.00,
Both KK and the dealer tech were equally dumb in this instance.

At no time should the customer know more about the vehicle than the "trained dealer tech".
problem is.. the above is common place these days in many cases

I still think it should be a rule that if they don't fix anything you shouldn't have to pay....

Personally I agree, especially if the customer spends the same amount of time spoonfeeding the technician as the tech spent wandering around the car with a "deer in the headlights look".

They should have met you in the middle, atleast

KK, did you tell them in the beginning what had happened?

Did you tell them you put a chrome bezel on and now it doesn't start?

Or did you do the "it wont start", stupid customer routine?

Drilling holes wont help. Thats not how radio works. I am not sure how PATS works or even what it looks like. If there is any hint of a radio antenna thingy, then maybe the antenna could be extended outside the area of the bezel or even, in some way, attached to the bezel to make itself then antenna.

Or if the transceiver is removable, relocate it to the left or right of the bezel. I think there would be room.

Another option is to stuff another key next to the ignition switch on the inside. Thats what my shop did on a TON of cars that had remote starts installed. But we usually used the valet key.

Yeah, I was thinking about it more after I posted - the slot idea probably wouldn't work. I've never looked at such a device either, so no idea what's possible...

OMG... making the bezel the antenna... you are a :q:q:q:qING GENIUS!!!!!!!!!!

As soon as I have a spare ignition assembly and pats antenna a new idea will be commenced... :)

Oh,:shifty: that was mine:shifty: I had it specially made of chrome metal and it shorted out the entire ignition system:shifty: and I had to junk the car.:shifty:
So would you be kind and mail it back to me?:D

Quoted for obvious reasons :D

I told the dealer exactly what I did word for word... lol... it's all good, they did program two new pats key blanks I had as part of that $200 charge... so really it's a $100 pats key programing with a $100 idiot tax...

The best part of the whole deal was that the dealer couldn't figure out how to removed the ignition tumbler, and I got it out in 15 seconds using a ball point pen in front of the tech's eyes... he was just staring dumbly thinking how the hell did he figure that out!!!

:D

the pats "transponder" is a black plastic ring that goes around the ing cylinder. relocating it wont work as the fords are picky how the key is positioned in reference to the ring, ie say the tumbler was removed and if you hold the key through the ring too far, not far enough, the wrong direction it wont start.

Hmmmmmm...

I'm wondering if you could have the whole cylinder painted/powdercoated...

Hey man if no one ever tried anything new where would we be?

BORED!!!!

Not all mods work out as planned, but stock SUCKS!

They only get better and better!

I do it for Tommy... I can't catch up to him in miles, and he can't catch up in posts...
