Rare Part...

Live and learn - the thought that a chrome paint would interfere with the PATS would have never crossed my mind, either.

Was that the problem? I was having trouble getting the full details what with people constantly being booted from chat.

Hahahahah... alright here is the full deal...

I bought a used bezel from a forum member
Had it chrome plated
Put it on, car wouldn't start
Getting a pats transponder signal not being received
Took the chrome bezel off and put the stock one back on
Car starts and runs...

So here is what I learned, chrome plating plastic is expensive, the chrome plating will obscure the pats key signal, DO NOT take your vehicle to the dealer for any reason or you will pay them money to accomplish nothing...

Yay...

Oh, so you took the car to a dealer, thinking the PATS was acting up before realizing that it was the chrome piece messing everything up?

And the dealer didn't have a 'Scooby Doo' as to what was up, but charged you a $200 diagnostic fee anyway?

Hmmm... What if.... you cut a couple of neat, discreet slots into it - I think it would look fine and the signal should then be able to pass through.

I thought you said you got it from a junk yard?

good job kid! at least you admitted it, (that was my fee for all the "chicken tech support") although i didnt have the exact answer, it seemed like something wasnt adding up.
remember the K.I.S.S. rule Keep It Simple Stupid! being, the car ran you changed something than the car didnt run, swap back and see if its ok. glad you got it fixed (kinda) and think of it this way $200 is better than $200+new SCIL module and it still not running would of been worse

I was just :q:q:q:qing with everyone...

see this is why i like being able to go to a school where they have a mechanics shop, i can bring my car there, order the parts and install for free and use all the stuff that the dealer has for free too. and i got teacher mechanics to help me even though one is a retard and sprayed my dirty headlight with brake cleaner... :q:q:q:q:q:q:q...

You are missing the point... the dealer couldn't figure it out cause the dealer really couldn't!

It was the kids own asinine self that got himself into this mess and the dealer charged him a 200 dollar DUMMY tax... :D
