from day one, when i bought the opal grey 93, if i let the gas tank get to half tank or less, the car will die when taking off. it happens usually right after it shifts into second gear, it wont die if you let off the gas when it cuts out, it will catch itself and keep running, but when it cuts out, if you keep your foot on the gas where it was, it will stall. in the morning, or at night, if the car has been sitting about 8 hours or so, it takes way longer to start then normal, long crank then it starts. i have a vieo i will post later when i can upload it, but figure just me describing it might help. its really making me mad, i am thinking its the fuel pump, but why does it rine perfect when the tank is full? the video might give someone a better understanding, i cant take it no more it died on my wife twice yesterday in traffic and you cant start this car in neutral it has to be stopped and put in park so she almost got slammed into yesterday. i'll put a pump in it, but i want to make sure thats it before i do it.

Pump. Had this problem on a Stang before. When the tank was full it kept the pump cool, when it got to 1/3 it would overheat and shut down.

Not saying for sure but that was my experience.

Before I would condemn the pump, I would do a fuel pressure test, leak down test and check the fuel pressure regulator.

You may want to change the fuel filter and see if it helps, but it probably won't 'fix' it. It will only possibly make the fuel pump work easier.

yea thats gonna prolly gonna be the pump.

the more fuel in the tank means the pump only has to push the fuel up the rail
the less fuel the pump is running hotter, and has to pull fuel INTO the pump ALONG WITH pushing it up the rail.

that is probably why my car went faster with more fuel in the tank than less..

Sorry I can't offer any insight other than saying I agree with these guys, but Im also curious about you saying you can't start it in neutral. I've done it with my 94 a couple times, is that a 93 only type deal?

here is the video i took.

I agree! That used to happen to an El Dorado my father used to own. Unfortunately that was back in the day when I knew NOTHING about cars so he ended up spending God knows how much until they finally found out it was the pump.
Hey, Jamie, keep that video private on Youtube. Otherwise ppl will leave those stupid comments like; "That's what you get for buying a Lincoln!" or "That's what you get for buying piece of $h!t cars"... That's the one thing I don't like about youtube, haters really let it out on your videos.

Exactly what i'm thinking. Stick a gauge on it.

well its gonna have to wait till next weekend if it lasts that long! unless i quit my job this week i dont know how much more i can take of the place.

ha ha .....i want to quit with you ...muffin....lol...place sucks....i will also help change the fuel pump but count me out on layin on the ground when pullin the tank out from the car.....lol....

hey you joined sweet!!! no, no one will have to get under the car because i am gonna go against everything i ever said about working on mark VIII's and i will cut the floor under the rear seat, i cant believe i just posted that for everyone to see, but sometimes you just gotta say :q:q:q:q it!!!!

i would rather climb under the car and risk getting gas in my ear and eye again before you cut corners and cut a hole in the pass back seat area.....

Be ok, I guess. At least you'll make a nice job of the hole / cover plate. (not like that ghetto looking SF job)

before we do anything ....lets hook a fuel pressure gauge up and see what its at....i will buy one if i cant find mine......

yeah i know what i am doing muffin shut the :q:q:q:q up. besides its the 93, not the 97, i wouldnt do it to the 97 ever, but the 93, sure!! i can make it look like this.... right martin!!
