LaserSVT 98 White Pearlescent Progress Thread

I will be doing this early summer on what was a northern car. I am not looking forward to it.

Looks like the perfect time to modify the bottom of those struts, lowered ride with the proper amount of air in the bags.

hey just so you know, when these were built on the assembly line the upper control arms said TRW on them! thats what was put in them from day one so it doesnt mean they have been changed, i'm sure they have been, but all of them said TRW .

Finnaly! Done! :wrench:

All together including jacking up the car it took 4 hours to completly overhaul the front end. Now everything is new so she should be good for quite a while.... I hope. I also decided to clean up under there while I was there.

And just one of the three bushings that needed to be cut off.

Then after all was almost done things turned to poopies. :(
As I was tightening the lug nuts the Gorilla bit split in half. So I used my stock lug nuts on the remaining studs untill I can get another Gorilla bit.

Then I broke my first bone. I have been in some very serious accidents and even fell off the roof of a two story building but never broke anything.
I had a burr on my shoe that was cutting my heal so I took my shoes off. I have a large chrome molly 4-way lug wrench that I set down on my work bench and while pulling my lug nuts out of the box the wrench slid off the bench and landed point down on my little toe. Man did I yell and then saw stars. My toe instantly turned purple and started to swell up. I can feel my heart beat in it now. Fock did it piss me off.
This pic was less then two minutes after it happened.

Ouch! That sucks man, I had a loaded pallet jack roll up my foot yesterday. Two middle toes bled, and can barely bend them. However I don't believe they are broken.

OMG is that PITA, I've rebuilt the front suspension a couple times on a MN12, always came back with busted knuckles and a sore back.
Yeah my back is very very sore but not as much as the toe I broke. Fortunatly I only smashed my knuckles twice and only have a couple scratches. Ive done so much Mark front end work in the last year that I know where to watch out.

Huh? Modify what on the strut? I already redrilled the sensor mounts and dropped the car an inch plus my ASHAM8 should be here any day now.

Yeah I remember you telling me that before. I think the drivers side has been replaced as it was tight and fairly clean plus the tabs on the bolts were broken off. The passenger side was prolly still factory. The bolts had the tabs still and the ball joint was loose as fock.

Oh well, its all tight now! :D Just took it for a test drive and its soooooo much tighter. A little darty but thats cause the alignment is way off now.

I agree when Bill said "Yeah, a couple parts are made in Taiwan but we went through a few factories till we found a place that makes them exactly to spec. Doesnt matter where a factory is, you could have a bad factory in America just as easily as anywhere else. We have a good factory for these parts."
I liked the quality of the parts and I am sure they will be fine.

Damn man, that toe looks painful!! Yeah, by back hurt like hell for a couple of days after I did the front end on mine.

Looks good man, well all except for the toe...

The very bottom of the strut where it bolts to the lower control arm, relocate the hole up from where it is, and your setting a little lower than stock without having to move your sensor mounts as far.

Fuk Bill. I'll look for the original one tomorrow. I lost it and went to buy a replacement and got that POS that's half the thickness as the original. It started to twist so I cut about an inch out and shortened it so that it wouldn't have all that force on it. I can't believe you split it. I tacked it slow to keep the heat treat in it as well as possible too. Damn things are just so hard thin and brittle.
I really looked for ithe original at one time but maybe I overlooked it somewhere. I say this because you may have bad luck finding one. They make like 5 that you can't tell apart unless you have the lug nut and it decides to finally fit one. Speaking of which, damn! I should check the glove box in the other car for your missing one! Haha

FYI I 12 point 17mm takes Gorilla locks on and off...

Keep my last sentence in mind, that 12 point isn't gonna work on all of 'em prob. But maybe. Let me know if that's working for you Bill.

i ordered my rear UCA bushings again, Oreillys sent me the wrong ones, i told them to get the Arm to Frame but they sent me Arm to Knuckle instead, i decided to go ahead and keep them and replace my factory ones since im going to have the arm out any, id love to get those sway bar bushings from you if you can bring them to work with you tomorrow that would be awesome, im going to try and get this all together tomorrow sometime, even if i have to do it in the parking lot, im going to Houston on Friday so id like it to ride nice on the way there, so i can hear if anything else needs to be replaced...theres a rattle in the driver dash/mirror area that id like to pin point and fix, cant hear it if the UCA is jumpin around

Yeah I will throw them in the car now so I dont forget. I wont be there till after noon though. Roads are supposed to be frozen over tonight and not thaw till late morning.

Can you believe this crap? I have 5-7" of snow covering my house!

Global warming my ass.

Hey look what finnaly showed up!

IMGP0789.jpg

Too bad they dont freakin fit. :(

They are just over 1mm too big around. I have spent the last hour shaving it down with a razor. Just got it to fit. Ill bring the rest of them to work tomorrow and shave them to fit. Looks alright.

Also I am not doing my gears tomorrow. :( My installer has problems with another car and the lift is taken so it has to be next week instead.
Oh well, it just wouldnt be right if one single mod on this car went smoothly!

dam those pics look sexy.....never liked a white mark but what you did makes me change my mind...

So for this weeks update:

Finnaly got it done at the paint place. They had to redo the bumper due to paint flaking off. Turned out nice.
My rear tires are bald after 3800 miles and no burn outs. Tire place wont replace them under warrenty so I will buy something expensive and buy their $5 warrenty then procced to burn them up every month for the next year and have new ones put on for free. :)

Had a worthless fat cow bitch texting while driving into the back of my car. Messed up my bumper, exhaust and drivers seat. Dealing with her insurance now.

I inspected the mufflers to see what tips I want to get and discovered they are not Borlas but some generic Ravin mufflers. So they are getting swapped out in favor of some Borla XS mufflers with some Pypes tips and a SCP center x-pipe resonater. :)
