I think your right, using a .062 carbide endmill.
Its getting done on this machine...I know a little overkill but its free for a week.

Yup, thats what I wanted too.i need to do something to, my speedstars have the centercap on them with the S from saleen, its immitation of course, but its coming off the center cap, its not a sticker though, i think its black paint, but its all faded on 3 of them, i'd like a lincoln star too i huess, that would look the best in my opinion.
The new mark looks awesome, Kirk. Great touch with the Lincoln star center caps. I much prefer a look that looks like it could've come from the factory that way.
Yes, those caps look great!
Damn! I wish work had a cool mill like that to work with!!!
The caps look good! I would make some for myself but I have no need.
Car looks awesome Kirk, I am so glad that it went to a good home where it got the care that I didn't have the time to give it! She deserves it!
Once again, she looks great!

My Cobra Star stickers are already pealing on the tips. Our wheels caps are not a standard size either so finding the right ones is a PITA.
Maybe it would be worth it to make 8 caps?
I want to make more but it has gone insane around here.
We went from a 190 man shop to under 50 guys.
I watched as all the shops I have been around since '79 close up and auction off machines for dirt.
Friends I worked with for longer then 20 years are long gone.
Now things are coming back and every one is chicken to hire any help including this shop.
Every machine is back logged with work and those of us left are doing the work that used to get done with three times the man power.
That means long hours and no screw off time.
Don't get me wrong I am by no means complaining I am happy to work the 50 hours a week over the 30 hours I was around Christmas time.
Hey Ford Nut, those caps are AWESOME! The G2 looks great too! I would love to be able to machine parts like that for my cars!
Well, here's a center cap from a chrome ten spoke that I shaved and beveled in order to fit into the hole I drilled into the centercap of this Enkei rim. The pic doesn't show the cap too well, but I'll have to sift through my old school pics and scan another if I find one that's better. I made those back in 2002 for my G2. I'm a sucker for details like that.
OK, my cap size is 60mm across. Can fudge .5 mm under but cant go over at all.
Seriously, just let me know what to send and I am ready whenever. I can pay right now if you like.
lovin the center caps!!!!!!!!!,beautiful!!! ill take a set if there are available, cell#6507221238 or email at aguirre30@hotmail.com, please!!!!!I've also got paypay if that helps.
regards,
ramon
for 50 bux ill be in for a set, hell i could even send you a spare cap i got (as soon as i get them) if that would helpOk I did a little arm twisting I think I can get some machine time in the next two weeks.
I don't like how I mounted my caps, I just drilled and taped the back side and made a simple strap clamp.
I don't think its balanced too well, its not perfect on center.
On the next set I want to make a backing plate to mount to.
Laser.... on your speedstars I need more info.
The Dia of the cap is 60mm which is 2.362
I need to know how deep the hole is the cap sits in.
How small is the whole is after that.
Then how big is the dia. after that, were the backing plate will go.
I'm not looking to get rich I guess I would charge $50 a set.
But need to get the process down first.
I wouldn't charge you unless you were happy with them.
Give me some numbers.
I would def take a set for that! Geno has my stock caps to maybe he can send you one to get the exact measurements.Ok I did a little arm twisting I think I can get some machine time in the next two weeks.

Do you have to account for the thickness of the chrome if you get them plated?

The caps are worthless I need the numbers off the rims.
damn all my calipers etc are at my parents house, why wouldnt the caps them self work
I'm confused![]()
Nope,
Standard cap are plastic, they fit by using a spring clip.
What I am making is a solid disk.
To hold it in place I drill and tap the back of it, put in set screws that are longer then the next stepped hole in the rim, then a backing plate that is bigger then that next step hole, but not so big it won't fit in the backside of the rim.
The backing plate will have two holes drilled in it that the set screws go thru, then two nuts with lock washers will hold the whole thing together......get the idea?
