It happened on the way to work, in bumper to bumper traffic, on a long bridge on I-75 in Detroit.
A van was braking in front of me, then all of a sudden he swerved to the left, braked harder, and stopped.
I couldn't move to the right because there was a car there. I hit his chrome bumper on his right side with my driver's front corner.

I got out and apologized, as I knew it was my fault. He said we should see if anyone was hurt in front of him. I didn't know it, but the car in front of him hit the car ahead of him.

They were OK, so we went back to the back of his van. I told him we need to get off of the bridge, because there was no shoulder, and the traffic was backing up, possibly causing more accidents.

I had some cash and I offered him 100 bucks for the damage to his bumper, he took it, shook my hand, I got off the bridge and went home to cry.:(

Man that does suck. At least it doesn't look like it blew the airbags. Maybe it's time for a 1st gen front end. I don't know if I would do that to a ce or not. Definitely needs to be fixed though.

sucks, but fixable at least. If not I need a ce wheel and shift knob.:D

Man that really sucks. :( I am so sorry to see that. Glad you are ok though.

Bill, sorry to see this happened to you. Was this the car that I had something for?
You might want to consider daily driving a Gen I and keeping the CE stashed away most of the time. Hopefully you'll get her fixed up soon, if you have full coverage.

Thanks guys. I just have liability insurance, so at least I don't have to deal with all that crap.

I plan on fixing it. I'd like to find a 98 White Pearlescent header panel, hood and fender, so I don't have to do any painting.

Don't worry Terry, I've got 3 other Marks that could use that wheel still.:D

wow bill, jeremi was asking me for some seat skins, and said maybe he needs to pick up another parts car, specially since bill wrecked his c.e bill wrecked his c.e? i didnt hear that, well now i see it! that sucks, the good thing is, you arent hurt, and really, the car isnt that hurt either, thats not bad. jeremi will fix that right up for you. sucks to see it but he have all seen much worse on here, i'm glad it isnt a loss, i would say hurry up and fix it, but since you have like 4 of them, i guess its not a rush right!!!!

Damn Bill, I'd offer you some body parts of the same color but I don't think I have anything that you need.:(

Thanks guys.

I hate to say this Caddilack man, but somehow I feel a little better after seeing your car. Thanks for that.

I guess I was just a little luckier than you.:(

Damn, Bill... sorry to see that. Glad you're OK though.

I feel your pain. I'm in the process of reclaiming my new parts and then it's off to the scrap heap. 130k on the clock.

i smashed mine up a lil worse that that this past feb. air bags deployed and everything.
it took me about 600 to fix everything

i got a header panel, bumper cover and headlight that was the same color for 300
I had a shop pull the bumper support out for 200 and fix and prime my driverside fender for 100

so it wont take much to get it back on the road

wow, this is one depressing thread, nearly every post on here is about a wrecked mark...(goes to garage to work on his own wrecked mark)

Sorry to hear about the car, but I hope he was in the same lane as you the whole time as I don't know why you'd apologize/take the blame for someone cutting in front of you and stomping the brakes???
A guy cut into my lane and stomped on the brakes to avoid a van here once too, he was at fault and he cut me a nice cheque to cover the damage instead of going through insurance...
You need to be careful making any deal like that with more than 2 cars involved (or even two for the matter without it in writing etc) as even though the two cars in front of you guys weren't touching/involved in your stuff, all it takes is one of them telling the cops you left and your now defending a hit and run charge!

Thats sad Bill... Glad you didn't get hurt.
The car is repairable.....:rolleyes::rolleyes:
There is a lot of accidents on that bridge. I thing people are looking around.!!

He was always in my lane, so it was my fault. I just have liability insurance so no claim there.

The Detroit police don't respond to accidents like this anyway, you're lucky to get them to respond to a murder.:D

Im sorry to hear this bill. Im glad you and everyone else involved are not injured. Let me know if I can help in any way.

Thanks guys.

Well, here's some good news. I may have located the parts in the right paint.:)

I'd start on it this weekend, but it's the first weekend of fishing for my brother and I.:D
