DieselDan's 94 Champagne/Black Progress Thread!

Refinished the headlights.

Well... Decided that I wanted to start cleaning up my engine compartment a little. I had a mint engine cover on the engine, but figure it's time to start showing this baby off... I plan on a COP conversion as soon as I find some valve covers for less than an arm and a leg, but this is the first project I did...
Starting:

During: I cut the pieces off with an air grinder...

It is impossible to fit your hand inside the tube to install any kind of backing, but I used a rag with a piece of duct tape shoved down the tube to support the epoxy while it hardened. I missed the pic I had of the raw epoxy on the tube, but this is after I ground it down with my die grinder.

Here I was wetsanding the epoxy smooth.

And paint, I used flat black...

And the finished product...

I had maybe an hour into this, minus the cure time for the epoxy... ENJOY!

As always a great job. Look forward to more under the hood detailing. I'm looking for ideas for mine.

That car looks great!

I like the octastars on the gen 1. I can't wait to try mine on my green 94.:)

Car is looking great! Your car really looks great with the Octastars.

I used to have a Associated RC10GT stadium truck, but its days have come and past. Now I'm staying away from the Nitro trucks, just too much maintanence and the fuel isn't cheap! Plus, they are so fast its easy to mess around and oh theres a mailbox.... (maybe it was just me) I have been playing with an Axial SCX 10 Honcho, its an electric Trail / crawler truck, lots of fun, and I haven't had to replace anything in 5 months. (keeps fingers crossed)

WELLL...

Its about time I post this stuff up, so here goes...

I went down to Jamiediah's house and picked up my 3.73 Carrier and some other assorted items that will show up on here in the near future, but anywho... Here are a couple pictures of the diff all cleaned up.

I took the back cover off and steam cleaned the whole carrier assembly. Hit the carrier case with a little bit of Aluminized radiator paint. The clutches in the diff were in good shape.

Backed the car in the garage and put it up on some ramps to get started.

Brought home a :q:q:q:qton of tools, didn't know what I was going to need...

All of this was done with the company of my prego wifey...

And my before and after 0-60 vids.
So now the car has: SCT chip, LSC dual exhaust, 3:73s and a Trac-lok.

Thats all for the moment...

Next item up for bid...

And this is WAYYYY OVERDUE!
95MkViii's recent thread on redoing the chrome trim motivated me to finally finish mine. I have been penny pinching lately, and thought I was going to have to buy $60 dollars worth of trim from flexchrome.com because they were the only ones that had the exact right trim. Well, after seeing his results, I was convinced that this stuff would work just fine...

I'm gonna spare all the install pictures, because we all know what it looks like, but here is my car, finally complete on the exterior. Took long enough, right?

The car isn't freshly washed in the above pictures, it actually has some ash on it from the current brush fires down here...

Looks great dd..I always pictured you as older for some reason though.

dan is a young girl still! i cant believe you removed your entire rear lower control arms though, you better get the car aligned after pulling them esentric alignment bolts out of the rear!! when i did mine i removed the center axle nut and then slid the knuckles off and popped the axles out of the diff.

Yea... I really hadn't planned on removing the LCA, I didn't think I was going to need to... I just got so deep and that was holding me up, so off it came. I marked all or the eccentrics before I took them out. The car tracks exactly like it did before. Going into it though, I didn't think I needed to take it out, guess I was wrong. Btw, I was born in 85 :)

Got the mufflers installed monday morning... $127 for muffler install only, a lot more than I would have liked to have spent, but the installation is flawless. It will be another $80 to get the x-pipe installed, so that is going to wait a few weeks. Borla XS Pros, same as what was on Laser's white car. All I asked of them was to make sure the tips were in the exact location they were with the stock exhaust. Worth the money I guess...

The mufflers were $195 for the pair shipped.

Working on this for the moment... I pray to god that it all works when I wire it in, because taking any of it apart to diagnose it would be a major PITA, there is so much solder and shrink wrap on this thing... The plate was basically just to have something to hold everything together while I built it, I am going to make a cleaner, smaller plate to hold the switches in the car. I think I over complicated it, but I think it is cooler this way. There is 20 transistors in the wiring.

I didn't expect to get so much done on it, so I didn't bring home the connectors that I am going to wire into the factory harness, so I can't install it atm...

As for how I over complicated it, this is how it works...

The far left switch is a 6 pole on/on switch... Left side of that switch grounds the circuit that the air suspension shut off switch in the trunk is on, shutting off the AS module. The Right side of the switch provides key-on power from fuse 10, part of the AS system already. The Second switch is a 3 pole on/on switch. I am in the process of installing a reservoir tank to help raise the vehicle when I slam it, but that switch selects between either compressor air, or reservoir air. And the 4 other switches are for each corner. They are on/off/on switches. Up opens that bag's solenoid, and turns on the compressor, or tank. Down also opens the bag's solenoid, and opens the vent solenoid on the compressor assembly. I had wanted it to be momentary/off/on switches but I was unable to find them. If I flick the main power switch back on, it kills power to the board and the power that is opening the bag solenoids, and basically turns the AS cancel switch back on.

Here are some more random pictures from my brainstorming...

I am going to install male/female connectors into the factory harness so that I can plug this panel I made into it, and if I need to remove it from the car, I can just unplug it, and the car will operate like normal.

In retrospect, if I were to do it over again, I would have done it the solenoid mod way, with just 5 on/off switches, but we shall see.

Well, started my COP swap last night and major props to the people that have done this conversion before me, because it is very involved! I ordered plugs and valve cover gaskets from RockAuto on Sunday night, but for some reason there was a delay, and they are going to arrive this afternoon, instead of yesterday like they were supposed to, so I did the wiring before I had the valve covers installed. R/Ring the covers alone is a bit of work, but the wiring is a whole different animal. I'll let the pictures do the talking here, but the covers are going to be installed this evening...

It's not done yet, obviously. I started it up last night with a lot of stuff unplugged, and it ran pretty decent. I'll finish it up tonight and post more pics.

ive bin wanting to do a COP conversion for a while now... ill get around to it sometime..

nice work!!! cant wait to see the rest!
