Can you jack up the back end by the pumpkin?

Ok, just thought I'd ask. The back being such a bitch to get up.
 
i always picked the back up using the steel pumpkin brace bolted right behind the pumpkin.
 
Mine was lifted with a jack by a tire shop and I raised hell about it and he said it was fine. I asked if he had insurance to fix it if he messed it up and he said yes and I told him to go ahead. I got under it and took pics to show nothing was wrong and he seen me. I was hoping it would shatter and I would have told him I had 3.73's with trac loc lol. It lifted fine and came down fine and not a bit of damage. Over a year ago now and nothing leaks from there either.
 
lmfao stop being pussies jesus its aluminum? so aluminum isnt strong???? your engine block is aluminum and look what that thing goes through. do they recommend jacking by the pumpkin, no they dont, have i ever, a million times on a million marks, never cracked, broke, shattered, or damaged a pumpkin and guess what, i'll continue to jack mine by the pumpkin. you will never break the rear diff by jacking the car up by it, never.

Same...all my IRS Tbird, cougars, and mark viiis by pumpkin never a single issue
 
I just did this on a 2500HD today at work to do rear axle seals, because my POS scissor lift cant pick up anything bigger then a damn Cruze.... same principal right? Hahaha. We do this with Vettes too sometimes, to get the lift pads under the adapters that you have to twist and lock onto the frame to lift them. Never any issues.
 
Pretty sure you can, I do it when I need to lift the back up. Just put jack stands on each side and lower it back down if you don't feel comfortable.
 
You can jack it up from the pumpkin, done it thousands upon thousands of times, whats the difference if its aluminum>??? LMAO?
 
The diff is not a suggested lift point, but will you hurt anything if you do lift there...no
 
ladies and gentlmen if you are using a jet powered jack or a 5 in cannon round then i would not use it as a lifting point. that being said make shure that you are not using body panels or non ridiged points to lift from and be shure to use good quility jack stands as insurance to keep it from shifting and falling. it is allmost impossible to do weight lifiting press from the ground and crawl out from under it at the same time THINK before going under to work.
 
Can you? Yes. If it brakes, your own damn fault. It won't, but if it does, it's your own damn fault.
 
I find any metal surface works wonders to jack up a whole side of a car. Pumpkin for the rear, frame rail for the side, and if it's not 4wd, Oil pan for the front...

Never in a MILLION years could you do ANYTHING by lifting the car from the pumpkin, lolololol.
 
couldn't be any worse than when they lift the car from under the rocker panels, oh wait it is now my rocker panels have dents in them
 
You won't hurt anything by raising the car by the pumpkin, but why not use the beefy rear mount instead?

Now that's something I wouldn't recommend doing. Use the K-member instead.
 
what beefy rear mount are you taling about, the steel mount that is bolted with 2 bolts to the rear pumpkin cover??????? i hope thats not what you are talking about because it would make wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy more sense to lift from under the entire bottom of the diff case than to jack it up and put amazing amounts of stress on 2 bolts that are bolted to the thin aluminum diff cover!!!!!
