Good deal then, just lookin out for ya. I was hoping you didnt just take the cover off and run oil in the head or try and start the car.
Ill assume you removed the cover, vaccumed out the metal then used a brush and rag to knock out any stuck particles and used an air wand to make sure it was clear.
Cause I know you know about the two uber tiny oil passage holes in the head that clog easy and a sliver of aluminum would clog it causing valve train failure.
So hows the rest of that job going? You get the core in yet?
That is the job I have been most dreading on my car. They all fail at some point and I am just waiting for mine to fail. The second most job I am dreading is my blend door.

You assume correctly. I am not worried in the least. Super suction vac, and besides, the biggest piece hit me in the face. Good thing for safety glasses.
I haven't put the new heater core in, but the hardest part of the whole thing was getting the hose clamps off. The dash removal is the easiest thing to do. Bill, if you're dreading that, that's a two hour job.

Well, I must have had the easiest blend door/heater core job in the world somehow. Less than 4 hours start to finish. The hose clamps were upside-down even. I'll give you that spring-type clamps are much easier than screw-type, but still.

It's a good thing this is my project 93 and not my CE. This way I can take my sweet azz time with it. I guess this weekend I will try to button everything up and reconnect the hoses so I can move on to putting the dash back in.

When I had my old 97 and the BDA went, I found a step by step writeup I think over on M8.org. It took maybe 2 hours? It really was pretty simple with the step by step. Just be careful taking the bolts out that are right at the base of the windshield, I used my 18v electric Makita, so that I wasn't swinging a ratched under the glass. I actually wouldnt mind doing it again.

Man, I finally finished my first heater core job. It sure feels good knowing that I didn't have to part with $1000 for a shop to do it!!

For sure. I even put hand twist hose clamps this time.

i use my 1/4 inch air ratchet for all the bolts on the dash, the first one i ever did was my father in laws back in 03 and i smacked the windshield hard with my 3/8 ratchet, luckily it didnt crack, but the sound made me cringe!!! after that i went much slower, i did it in the driveway i didnt even have a shop yet or air tools so it was the caveman way! now i blast through it with my super sonic 1/4 inch air ratchet, the thing is nuts lol but i love it!
