Will it ever run right?

i dont know how much it matters but his imrc's werent working with the old pcm in the car he had an imrc stuck open code, i cleaned them when i had the motor out and apart but that doesnt mean anything. this was happening before the motor ever came out of the car also so if its a vacuum leak i made the same leak it had before i touched it. i also replaced one of the front 02's with a brand new one that i had for my own car, but it was the driverside i am 90% sure, the old one had damage to the wires going into the stalk of the 02 itself so i changed it thinking maybe that might be the 02 problem, apparently i wasted an 02 sensor!!
 
This is great thinking here, the one thing still not explained was the fact that the car started having fits just after the cat-gutting. Perhaps that sensor was damaged in the process? Just a thought.
 
It very well may be bad, but I would like for him to look at it, before throwing parts at it. Also, I would recommend ford o2 sensors.
 
Uh a few months ago when you brought this up and gave the code I said if its a front O2 then its just bad. They are supposed to be swapped every 45000 miles anyway and as they approach 100K they die.
I thought you had said you were gonna buy a new one and swap it though?
 
when i had the exhaust down i didnt see physical damage to the right 02, but the driverside did have damage so thats why i changed that one, the right one could be dead, but i know it didnt have physical damage at least!

oh and andrew sorry i didnt get back to you, the only alternator i have is still on my rosemist parts car, i cant tell you what condition it is in, if you want to try it, and if it works fine, gimme $25 bucks.
 
I remember Jamie saying he fixed the DS wiring, so I think that damage came from the guy that gutted them (or could have been from before I bought the car but I doubt that). Plus I don't think you wasted an O2 Jamie because.....wait.....holy :q:q:q:q! It used to throw a code for B2, S2 too, but after I got the car back from you again it never did it again. Now it only does B1! You fixed the other one, so that's why the code never came back! What type of O2 did you use? Dammit, I think that's all that has been wrong. un-freaking-believable.

*the following is just a hypothetical and doesn't represent actual events* The guy was told to remove the cats and put straight pipes in. When the car was returned he said he gutted the cats because they were too difficult to remove. I have no clue WTF he did.

I didn't swap because I was under the impression the tuner was supposed to turn it off. So I thought swapping it wouldn't do anything because it would still throw a code with a gutted cat, however now that I know the front O2 isn't able to be turned off then I'll swap it if the answer leans towards that.

Not you Jamie. Before he hammered his motor he was still having that stumble issue and said he had a code for the front O2 and my response was "It has over 60K on it so replace it" which led to the whole Bosch rant and most people agreeing to just order one from Max and then Terry found OEM ones cheap from somewhere but I forget where.
 
i am not positive but i think the one i put in there was a motorcraft 02, but it might have been bosche i'm not sure.
 
No problem jamie. It's good to keep those around anyway. YOu never know when one of these will fail. OH by the way, the 96's are the same as 97/98.

Ripped, the link you posted only tells you how to set up datalogging. It doesn't tell you what it datalogs. You have to set it up on your car, and see if you can datalog fuel trims pids and o2 pids. It says you can do up to 20, so thats a good thing.

Note: B2 S2 is Bank 2 Sensor 2. Thats the drivers side rear o2 sensor.

Sorta.. .a little.. read through this. Enough to know that its a front O2 that may be the problem, which MAKES SENSE.

And also that some of you are idiots! LOL The rear O2 sensors do NOT provide ECU feedback for fuel/air mixture. Period. They are there to just make sure the cats are working. And if they read bad, they through a code. But they will not impact performance at all. If someone already pointed out that, sorry to repeat.

Nevermind I'm half retarded, my memory failed me because XLR mentioned it would cause turbulence and i agreed with him, not that I mentioned it first. My bad....

I wouldn't blame people here for something like that. The only thing I ever blamed anybody on here for is when they said you need to use brute force to tug the valve cover off the engine. That was some bad advice that resulted in some pretty expensive repairs!

But no matter what - it's going to cost you ... the cats are fubar ... Either take it to someone who knows what they are doing or to someone who is willing to coach you through it ... (Not Jamie ... according to his thread he's done enough - Give him a break).

So I'd say this discussion is dead ... you need to replace the cats ... You need to replace the cats ... Unless you find yourself someone who knows what they are doing ... "Not An On Line Coach" someone who will physically help you through this. Oh and it should be someone with a lot of patients ...

Patience :D

I think you missed the part where we already figured out Jamie fixed the one Cel without even knowing it by fixing the wiring and changing out the O2. So it's either the O2 or wiring from the other one.

I'm picking one up today from Ford $57 and will have it installed tomorrow when my alignment is done.

Umm......

I am throwing a wrench in all this but....

I'm still running the original 94 o2 sensors on gutted cats. Still pulling 29mpg plus, and no driveability issues. Granted, I NEED new exahust badly, and the car is STILL running 100% stock tuning, but o2 sensors aren't as replacement needy as everyone thinks.

Wait... I shouldn't have said no driveability issues. The computer will pull timing in the middle of a full throttle run which feels like a hiccup. This is not the o2's though.

And you have a different computer too. OBDII is more finniky then OBD, no?
