figured the old post turned into such :q:q:q:q, i'll start another. well, we refurbed one of the heads i save from a 97 motor i had. checked it all out, surfaced the head and cleaned it all up. put a new head gasket on the block and slapped the new head on with new bolts derrik had his buddy run up to my shop today. special thanks to tommy for helping me out over the phone with the torque sequence on the head bolts. i actually just had my buddy tell me what to do as far as getting the timing chain and gear back on correctly, it was cake. i cleaned the imrc's tonight got them real clean and i tossed the timing cover in the parts washer and hit it with an air grinder with a special bit in it that holds a piece of scotch brite and whips it around real fast. its all re-assembly now, should be done sunday, if some dip:q:q:q:q leaves me alone!

So are you going to have a party to celebrate finally getting this thing out of your shop?
 
Is that still the same motor? Or did you get another and had to fix the head?
 
So what are you using that motor for? Or no junkyard motor? I'm confusededededddd..
 
Jamie thought it would be best to rebuild my motor because we know that it ran before the incident, as opposed to buying another junkyard motor that may fail. So he put on a different head in place of my hammered head and is re-installing my original engine...except with new seals.
 
hey jamie, you ever have to do the timing chains? how hard is it to get the chains on right, does it really call for all those special tools in the manual?
 
danny, if you are starting from scratch, and have all 4 cams removed, then yes, you need tools. all i had to do to derrik's motor was, take the cam sprocket off with the primary chain, i did not remove the chain, i left it on the crank sprocket and pinched the slack out of the chain with a zip tie, that way the chain couldnt jump any teeth on the crank, i also did the same thing at the cam sprocket with a zip tie so nothing moved. took the old head off, put the new head on, turned the cams until the came gear's notch lined up top dead center and put the cam sprocket back on, you cant put the cam sprocket on wrong, it has a keyway it will only go on one way. when i removed the cam sprocket off the bad head, the cam notches were at top dead center also, so it was put back together exactly as it came apart, but if you ever remove the camshaft's, thats a whole different story. here are two pics that would load last night from my phone, i wanted all 3 pics to be posted. you can see what i mean about the timing chain in the pic. here is all 3 pics.

i am gonna put the whole motor back together tonight, i was out in the sun all day at work and i am fried. its 7 pm here now, i'm going to bed and getting up at midnight, and plan on working till the sun comes up tomorrow.
 
wow jamie all i can say to you is that ill be praying for you and wishing that god gives you lots of patience lol.
 
Jamie my friend, you have outdone yourself. That was a chit ton of work. Hopefully Ripped mans up and takes real care of you. Not just represents you in his murder trial. :lol:
 
Once you get it all finished.... right before you give him the keys.
Will you hit him in the head with a hammer?
