Geno,
I've seen your TerminVIIItor!!! When I had the 92 up in the NE Philly area.. Nice car then but really 4:10's? you dont think its too tall of a gear with highway? Also I dont want to rip the trans out just yet for a stall converter yet.

Dude had them 12 years will never look back. No top end Froggy? LMAO Come take a ride son.:D Dont know when and where you "Lose" top end with 4.10's. Ill take it to the grave with me 4.10's all the way baby!

I do 75 mph at approx 2650 and get 27.2 mpg. Also why on Earth would gears make you "rip your trans" out more frequently? LOL?

Your more then welcome to come by for a "test drive" so I can show you what your MISSING anytime just give me a heads up.

Even at 150 I get 24.5! LOL!

Geno, I didnt say rip the trans out more frequently, I said it if I had to install a higher Stall TC that I would have to remove the trans to do that...

I am also not sure if I installed the gears would I have to increase the T/C to compensate for the extra gearing??

Test Drive hell yea I would love to see the difference in a 4:10 setup..

Thanks to everyone who posted so far!!!

I have made a choice.. I'm gonna go with 4:10's and see how they are, I will make my mind up when I have them installed and try it out. I just might get a used diff from a bone yard to rebuild so I can have both stock and mod'd cant see that changing the carrier would be that tough.
Thanks again.
Bill

4.10s are good for around 150mph in 3rd. How fast do you really need to go in a street car?

Some of us live in places where towns are set 100 Miles apart. Sometimes it's nice to be able to get to the next town real quicklike. :D

I appreciate the offer, G-man. When I want to go fast I'll jump into a 6Liter V12 twin turbo AMG. ;)

Even at 150 I get 24.5! LOL!

And how long were you running that speed? Certainly, not longer than a couple of miles? That won't mess with the Average screen too much, me thinks.

Gears, I fear are like air ride and coils. You'll get 10 different opinions from 8 different people. Some swear by 4.10's and 4.30s, others by 3.73's, and others... just don't care (without waiving their hands in the air).

As stated before, I've driven both 3.73 and 4.10's. Personally, I like the 3.73's. You may like the 4.30's, for all we know. It's all in what you like.

Here's a pic of 3.73's at 80.

Or not...

Joey!?

ARRRRRRGGGGHHHH!!! Why another one of these thread right as I about to trade up my 3.73's for 4.10's!

I'm in a little bit of a different situation though... I am going to be s'charged so I bought 3.73's

Then I looked at the actual gear change from an LSC 3.27 to the 3.73 and thought it really wouldnt even be worth it! Its not even a full point in the ratio change... I'm confused all over again

So 4.10's or 3.73's for a FI car???

If you have 327's and you go to 410's...that is the same as going from 308's to 373's.. I was disapointed in the eventual almost meaningless difference.

IMHO regardless of FI or not..a 327 car should go with 430's which is a full numerical ratio change.

Keeping in mind that before OD transmissions people were running 411's all the time and in some cases 456 gears on the street.

Granted a SC car WILL pull a lower numeric gear better, but on that same note..with a higher numeric gear you get MORE torque multiplication...even MORE BETTERER!

If having "more torque" scares you, then go with those 410s.

if your mindset is anything like mine, and it may very well NOT BE..
your gonna be disapointed going from 327's to 410's

If I were putting a turbo on one.. I might stay with the stock gears.
turbo's LOVE load, and those 308's "really load up" the motor.

Damn Tommy, I was trying to stay out of this addiction and now you have to go and say that turbos love a load (which 308's do for the mark) so now you got me wondering. Now I want turbo.:D

I think if someone is going to go through the trouble of a gear swap, they may as well make a difference and go 4.10

Rich88LSC: In third gear with the stock tires and 4.10s the car would only go 125mph at 6500 RPM.
In 4th you could do 150 @ 5500 RPM.

I am going with 3.73 because I would rather be at 2500RPM @ 75 MPH then 2750RPM with the 4.10s
I have had 3.08, 3.27, 3.55, 3.73 and 4.10s with automatic 4.6 Ford cars and 3.73s are my prefered gear. 4.10+ with a blown car is a waste IMHO and also not a great choice for a car that spends the majority of its time going over 70.

Man you Gen 2 Guys run HOT!!!! I thought it was 2650. Ill put my new tach module in and see, my tachs been broke for 4 years now.

4.30s in the '93 and 4.10s in the '96 is what I have.

I can still get 23 mpg on the highway with the 4.30s.

I have 3:73 at this time just switched from 3:53 could not even tell I put gears in with the 3:53's total waste of time 3:73's are a tad better but not much.
Go with Geno 4:10's all the way, I am going to 4:33 that might be a little to much for most people.

This is with 4.10's and 275-40-17 Tires.

OK looking at your pic, How many RPM's do you get with a run of 100 or 110MPH?
Is the top end going to be really that bad? I cruise to work on the PA turnpike @ 80-85MPH and I was taking not that I was sitting around 2700 I have the LSC and Run 3:27's going to the 4:10's which I am pretty sure I'm gonna do, what RPM can I look for running the same speed. Lets just say on a clear road I've cruised @ 100-110MPH.. Am I going to be close to the threshold for the car with the 6K redline?

Thanks

PS.. Geno, do you know a reputible person to install the gears as I have never built my own rear... Approximate cost involved to have the rear assembled..?
