I have the G6 with the 3.9, the low end torque is quite impressive but quickly loses power at higher end revs...not alot of mods outside of a intake and exhaust available for that car...I don't believe a chip is available for the G6...if I am not mistaken the 3.9 is rated at 240 hp/230 torque...not sure of the weight of the car.

Talk about torque - I bet the caddy could beat any current American muscle - I bet it could even school the new Shelby GT500 - and that is saying something - Ford always goes for lo-end torque... and 0 to 60....

Finish is really decent for an American car. It didn't feel like a Mercedes or a BMW - it felt like American Luxury -

And it sounds - perfect (and I know about a car sounding perfect)... old school push rod, nice whine as the supercharger rolls up, and really throaty.

They are trying to go back to their old motto. I think they`re doing quite well. Now they need to bring back LeMonstre(sp) Cads coolest race car ever, an unrefined bruiser of a cruiser!
 
While it is very nice and I would love a CTS or STS-V I am sure its not top dog for performance and speed. Close but not quite. I am sure the current Viper could out perform it and while I dont know the numbers I would also be willing to believe a new GT500SS could best it as well as a new GT350 and bet a new Boss could come pretty close in the quarter and take it on the famous German track. :D



OAN, look how much nicer the V series is inside. The switch layout still sucks but the materials look so much better. The interior looks inviting and like it was made just for you. Nice dark accents, alcantara wheel, leather on the dash.... very nice.

You are right - a Viper would toast the CTS-v

But as far as some of the other cars you have listed -they aren't off-the-line Big 3... the GT350 and GT500ss are Shelby aftermarket cars... I could throw in a CTS-V Lingenfelter if you want to go that route...

Boss 302 - really - I think the V will be all over it - the GT500 can't beat it, I don't see how a car with 100 fewer ponies (GT500 has around 550, the Boss - 445) is going to beat the V.
 
Mustangs are heavy as well.

A test was done between the hennesy camaro a modified challenger and the GT500 super snake and the camaro took the good, and in some cases the challenger with 100 fewer horsepower bested the stang.

and yes a viper would toast the cts-v but then again the viper is a 10 cyl supercar and while the cts-v has a vette engine its still a luxury vehicle. so we are really comparing apples to oranges here.

a better comparison would be some of the stuff from AMG or an m5.
 
There is a little more to just raw power when it comes to acceleration. Even with identical powerplants, a 3 speed transmission car will have less acceleration capabilities than a car with a 6 speed transmission. It's all about keeping the engine in the power band.

Uh, you said "American Muscle" not a big three car and you compared it to the GT500. So I was running with that. And I may be completly wrong here but I dont put Shelby with Lingenfelter. Shelby is a full production facility with Fords blessing that sells their cars in Ford dealers with Fords warrenty.

There are other American cars out there too that are unmodified production cars. The SSC comes to mind.

And I say the Boss because the current gen Mustang is far superior to the last one amd the Boss is a track breed car. Its significantly lighter then a GT500 with not much less HP. It has better suspension, better brakes and steeper gears and is over 500lbs lighter.
I think the new Boss could give the CTSv a good run. And I dont mean just top end or 1/4 mile. The CTS has more juice with a higher top end and is prolly quicker through the 1/4 too but for real life racing or on a road course I wonder if it can best it.


Dont get me wrong, CTS-V is a bad ass car and I would love one. I was just responding to your post with some ideas.
 
Ill take a 5.0 stang over a cts-v anyday.

Have you seen what they can do blown??
 
I'm not a fan of the newer mustangs mostly cause they are absolute pigs weight wise. I mean the GT500 is 2 tons and if ya got the vertible then over 2 tons :eek:

The Boss was looking like it is going in the right direction. However now I am looking at the Camaro ZL1 that will be out to see what it brings :confused:
 
Our marks are nearly 2 tons... and they don't have the modern safety standards. IDC about weight if it can still perform. Who cares? If it outhandles, gets good mileage, and outperforms, what's the use in griping? I'd understand if it were a slug, handled like a bus, or got 4mpg.
 
Only thing i dont like about the camaro is the 16 spark plugs in the hemi.

Oh and the back is high and backing up is a bit difficult.

Uh even with my well over 100 pounds of stereo in my Mark it was 200 less than a Shelby. Kinda why the Boss will be kicking ass cause it weighs well less. No matter what weight is all important.

i read somewhere that 100lbs= .1 sec at the strip. that being said, and to those who say the gt500 is a fat pig,(it kinda is, however it is one very badass pig) do you seriously think that the caddy would be any lighter? i mean if the gt500 is a pig the cts-v is a damn elephant. and on the issue of the boss vs the caddy, i do believe the caddy would win in just about any point and shoot battle. that being said, i bet the boss would own the caddy once they entered the twisty's. just my $.02

Well, if your mark is 200 lbs less, how much more power does it have than the Shelby? I wasn't comparing the Boss to the Shelby. I was illustrating that even though new cars tend to be heavy they still outperform older, lighter ones. Pound for pound, sure, enough weight savings can make up for power gains or even design and construction enhancements, but let's not forget the disparity between the gain of 200lbs and the benefit of 200+ more horsepower. We wern't comparing different Mustangs, we were comparing Marks to Mustangs. Context...

The CTS-V os 4250 so it's a bit over the GT500 but it's also a 4 door so I would think he coupe would be quite a bit leaner?

Plus I have seen one at the White Castle by me and it looked damn sweet :cool:

I was kinda stating that my Mark is a luxury coupe and the Shelby is a performance coupe and weighs a lot more. Lets also not forget that when you make things heavier they crash harder. How much does the better safety equipment weigh that it is making this car over 2 tons :confused:

That and they don't perform for squat when there stock until you turn up the boost so...

I suppose it makes sense, indirectly, if you'd have illustrated the performance/luxury comparison. I agree with that. I do think the safety standards make up for the wieght though, some of the weight is due to frame design. Considering the past year's test ratings of the mustang, I'd say I'm right.

Yeah I would bitch about the weight thing more but the Caddy is up there and so is the Camaro now too. I was watching Top Gear and saw the latest Ariel Atom V8 that weighs NOTHING and beat the Veyron on the track by almost 2 seconds :eek:

However that car is a frame and bucker seats so it only comes in as a car because it has 4 wheels. I am not happy with how heavy everything is now at all :mad:
