Hey guys, I have some money should be coming my way in a few months and I have been unsure where to spend it... I had my heart set on an LMS hood, however from speaking to another member here, it could potentially end up costing wayyyy more than one should ever pay for one... Next up was a hub swap with cobra brakes and 18" fr500s in anthracite by 9&10" wide... I am not completely set on that yet either... Anyway, what would you guys recommend with the mods I currently have(look in my sig)to give me the best bang for my buck, maybe a TC? Thanks for the advice, I'm pretty torn on what to do.

Dan I think the hoods look really good on these cars. The one on my son's 93 is from supercoupe performance. I paid $800 dollars for it, $175 so it would be made and shipped in 2 weeks because of a time crunch. That being said I was horribly disappointed when it arrived with a corner broken off. Besides that I spent countless hours sanding and reworking it so it would fit the car right. I'll never buy another one from them. I thinking of making my own next time. By the way I called LMS 3 times for a shipping quote because I wanted to buy there's and no one ever called me back.

I vote no for kooks..I'll never understand why everyone gets a huge boner over them. Even if I had 100k in the bank i'd never spend that kind of money on them unless I had a sc/built motor ect...

I'd say hub swap but diff wheels.

personally, i would go for hub swap, big brakes, new wheels, big sway bars, and rear shocks of the cobra bilstein variety.

buy and sell a few things off craigslist and save up $3000 and supercharge it the right way. if someone could put me on a supercharger kit for $1000-$1500 i would buy it next week....

force it to induct more. and it will output more. LOTS MORE!!!!

p.s. i want your headlights

Easy choice. A good high stall torque converter with a big tranny cooler would be the most BANG for the buck. ;)

You may have enough left over for a pair of Cobra exhaust manifolds too in lieu of the Kooks headers!

I second the tq converter. Save for a motor build.

If I had an extra 1000-1500 then I would pay bills.

Otherwise wheels/brakes/tires are the best upgrades for these cars. Problem is $1500 isnt quite enough.

The wheels are gonna be $800ish, brakes are $500ish and tires will be another $800ish for decient rubber.

Driller, what brand of TC do you recommend? I remember precision industries is pretty good, but expensive.

It seems everyone has their favorite(s) and there are plenty of horror stories to go around from all of them. PI is what I have in the '96 now, and it started in the '93.

"Cheap" and "torque converter" just do not go good together. LOL :D

Well, I don't want a cheap converter, I just remember PI and Expensive were synonymous for a while. I will pay for a decent converter. In the long run, I would like to go in the same direction you are going with your car driller... Wheels and brakes are cool, however they don't make you faster. I need to look up the part #s for the cobra manifolds. That is a good idea I hadn't thought of. I still have my X that I haven't installed and that would give me an opportunity to get some new high flow cats with the X installed. I think a TC and manifolds would give me a very nice kick in the ass in power. Thanks for the advise, I may go this route...

Neither of my Marks have cats now as we do not have emissions testing here.

I've had 3500, 3800 and 4200 stall converters. My personal opinion is the 3500 was not enough but infinitely better than stock. The 4200 may be a bit much for some peeps, so I would recommend 3800 stall speed the most.

It doesn't necessarily make the car faster but it will indeed be quicker.

... Wheels and brakes are cool, however they don't make you faster. ...

Thats not completly true. Larger wheels hold larger tires to get you out of the hole faster and hold greater corner entry and exit speed. Larger brakes allow you to brake latter into a turn thus being faster on a track. :D

Absolutely Laser, I do appreciate that more meat on the road, and stronger brakes will help the car handle, accelerate, and decelerate better, however in this instance handling is a whole other system that I really haven't dove into yet. I do know in my case of going faster in a straight line, fatter rears would help me, but I can do that on a ugly wheel as well as I can a pretty wheel. So I guess what I am trying to say is I am more focused on the powertrain ATM, but do appreciate the worth of stronger brakes and wider tires.

I thought the consensus was that these cars needed cats for a little bit of backpressure? I am all for no cats, but thought that I would lose some bottom end if I decided not to run any... I am in FL so no emissions here either, what are you thoughts on with/without cats? Also, would an exhaust shop be able to mate pipes up to the cobra manifolds? I know they both arent ball flanges...

to do a hubswap correctly and use new parts its gonna cost a little more as previously stated. I just purchased everything for my hubswap and shopped around, dont have a total yet but its around 1200 so far (with the 10th anniversary cobra calipers ) and even without them it still wasnt cheap... just the wheels and tires are going to run about 1400 just for themselves

Going buy your mods i'd be adding a nice fat trans cooler, a quality TC, cobra intake & exhaust manifolds next...or all of the above :D

Personally, I would put it in the bank. With this economy, you could be laid off from Disney World at any moment.

Keep the cats. What power will you actually get. If you want power just start gathering parts for a C-head swap.

For you, you would just have to sell one of your many cars to live off for away. Wish I had that many cars.
