so sunday i changed the 93 back to a standard height coil spring kit for my wife, i knew i was gonna do this so i never had it alligned after i replaced all the front suspension parts. well since i finally raised it back up i made an appointment to have it alligned today and have the tires balanced. i dropped the car off at Flammer Ford last night after work. they call me at 9:30 this morning telling me they need to speak to me, i didnt get this till noon. so i just stopped there on our way back to work, the service manager says we havent alligned it yet, you need to see this. as we're walking out into the bay he says you know you have a power steering leak right, i said yeah i'll fix it soon, he says well you might want to fix it now because the pump is empty, i go under the car and the driver side inner tie rod boot is like destroyed and mushy and wet, he pulls on the boot and fluid pours out, he said the seal at the end of the rack is blown out, and he says look here too, and points to the crank pulley, soaked in coolant, i said son of a bitch what else you gonna show me? so he says well its here, we can fix it, i laughed and said oh yeah, throw me a number, so he says we can fix the rack for $455 and before he even said the water pump is.... i said put the front wheels back on and i will pick it up at 4:30 and fix it myself, i said i understand you guys are in business to make money i said but i am one person who wont support your overhead! i said i'll fix the car myself and bring it back for the allignment, so i got a ford reman rack with a 3 year warranty cost me $92 bucks and a brand new water pump was $40 with a lifetime replacement warranty. took me about 3 hours total if i cut out all the swearing and throwing :q:q:q:q, jake came and helped me with the water pump, coolant flush and rack, i couldnt get the dreaded high pressure line threaded back in, god the :q:q:q:qing morons who designed these cars needs to be shot if he isnt already dead. what a :q:q:q:qty night!!

whats that brandon a rack, oh it blows this is my 3rd one and i almost smashed the car into pieces ask my buddy jake, i think i was making him uncomfortable how pissed i was getting, he kind of backed up a few times just incase i threw something i wouldnt hit him lol, then he dropped my drop light on my face!

Sh*t happens, get pissed and then get over it!!! LOL I had a A/C compressor tonight that just wouldnt go back on, it wouldnt normally be a big deal but our instructor asked if anybody wanted to replace his compressor and accumlator (?) on his own car, i said ill do it. Well 30 minuets after class ended i got it back on and only 30 minutes over shop time.

Ya, I work at a ford dealer and I see how expensive some of these repairs are daily. Honestly makes me feel bad. Even when you try to cut the customer some slack, its still expensive. At my dealer specifically, when I work on trucks my labor rate is 22.50, but the shop charges 95.00. The dealer makes 75 bux on every hour I turn. Pretty gay, working on diesel trucks, people hardly ever get out the door for under a grand.

I remember doing the rack on the 94 and it was hell trying to get a hand all the way up through that hole for the high pressure. I don't ever want to do another one unless I just have to. I would never pay a dealer to do that job either.

I have that inner feeling I'm going to have to replace mine in the near future. About once a week I will hear it straining. I had a leak in the power steering, so I would just keep topping it off. I was fighting some health issues (thyroid) sense Aug. and just couldn't get it done and money was tight so I didn't want to pay anyone.

Replacing the pump wasn't bad at all, but I wasn't looking forward to changing out the rack and now that I read this, well:eyeroll: Jamie, where did you pick up your rack for $92.00 and was there a trick to getting the high pressure line back in?

Sucks man! Wish I was there to help, but we both know rather than help I probably would have lost some springs or :q:q:q:q instead ;) HAHA!

the trick to the line is not to do the job lol. if you have to change a rack prepare yourself to get very angry and probably break at least one thing you love!!!!
i got the rack at autozone, its a factory rebuilt rack, same rack they put in them from new, all they do is take the old one and rebuild it, the rack in the mark VIII was used in tons of fords, all different kinds.

The 93 rack has a quicker ratio then the 94-97 racks.

Hey Mr Angry Guy, you know how to swap a front sway bar without dropping the k-member. Im serious too so dont say cut it in half then weld it in place.

i heard if you undo the end links and sway bar brackets, undo the upper control arm from the spindle on the pass side so the spindle will flop down out of the way, you can feed the sway bar out the pass side and feed the new one back in the same way. never tried it so i can back this up.

it wasnt making me uncomfotable...i get the same way when things fight me ...i was just laughin in my head...and dropping the light on you ...well thats what happens when your arms and hands are covered with trans fluid.....oh well another fun night with muffin!

You guys crack me up.

Muffin! :wrench

We're back up north and I still have swollen bronchial tubes REALLY WEAK MAKES BREATHING HARDER. My MARK is sitting all lonely in the garage near TAMPA. But as bad as I feel I got a chuckle outa all this. We should start a REALITY SHOW on TLC or DISCOVERY CHANNEL. If those FISHERMEN can do it WE CAN. We could be like JESSE JAMES.
