LaserSVT 98 White Pearlescent Progress Thread

Hold off on doing your brakes till this weekend, when I come out to grab the rear end, I'll bring a caliper rebuild kit and some hardware so we can fix it the right way

I'm sure with over 100k those piston seals are cooked
Wut? Those rotors still have to go out for redrilling of the bolt pattern. Plus I need to order some EBC pads for the calipers. The calipers only have 8000 miles on them or so, so no rebuild. They are new Cobra calipers remember?
I replaced the seals and pins on the rears when I installed new pads. You know how I am about replacing crap.

Come out Sunday. The crank pulley was just shipped so it should be here by this weekend. I need your puller to swap it. We can do that and the IAC then prolly have to go to the store cause I bet my belt is too long. I asked for 107" and got 107 7/8" belt. Then on Monday I can bring it in for the retune if you want to watch the dyno runs. Maybe we can hit that good gyro shop after. :)

Yeah I know how you are about lubing brake hareware too, I'll bring my tool box, won't be able to go for dyno run, i have to work on Monday ;-(

You suck. I thought they switched you to Mondays off? Meh.

damn bill im jealous..... so hows it running from what i read u said that it may still b too high?

My new underdrive SFI crank pulley showed up! :wrench

So I decided to try the Turtle kit on my headlights. Kit sux, some sandpapper and Meguires plastix does better and I finnished up using Meguires chemicals.

Part way through:

And the finnished product:

Nothing like new but much better then what they were.

i used the turtle kit to do mine and it took me about 3 hours of hard elbow grease and a high speed buffer to get each one done but 6 hours later and some very sore body parts it came out looking damn close to new

Alright, installed the new IAC, IATS and March undrdrive. All went fairly well. Had to remove the hood and full cowl to get to the IAC in so that was a small PITA. Also discovered the GT500 IATS has the same plug as a Mark so that was $20 wasted for the pig-tail.
Had a small SNAFU and broke the coolant sending unit sensor on the crossover pipe. Heres the funny story:

Call up Oreillys and they have it so we drive off to go get it.... only its the other sensor for the fan. They can order one but I want it neow. We go NAPA and same thing. Go to Autozone and man oh man, what a tard. Tell the dude what I want and he says he needs to order it. So I say check a 96 Cobra and he says they dont exist. So I ask him to go back to the Lincoln screen and I see two listings. One in stock. So I tell him I want that one. He clicks on the picture and says "That one?" and I say yes. He says he can order it and it will be here tomorrow. I ask again that doesent the computer say one in stock? I get a blank look. I point, again I get a blank look. My friend says "We want that one!" to which we get another blank stare.  He again says he can order it. I again ask why I cant buy the one he has........... he says cause its a different brand....... NO FARGING CHIT!!! Can I please buy that one? Please, with sugar on top?
Now hes mad at me and storms off to get it. At which point me, my friend, two other customers and the other employee all share the "Is he that fuggin stupid" look!

So anyway we got it back together.

The good:
IAT stays around 140-150* and if I hold WOT through the first three gears it will creep up to 198* but drop to 160 as soon as I let off. I can deal with those temps.

The bad:
Now I have 8psi max. Yes thats super safe for the motor but thats gonna drop me to 340-350 rwhp after the tune. I wanted at least 10psi but no dice unless I buy a smaller blower pulley.

Anywho:
So had to pull the cowl:

Theres my IAC hiding way back there. Was very bad BTW, wasnt working AT ALL before:

Then got the new IATS in under the plenum:

Then malleted on the new crank:

And with a 107 1/8" belt:

And then we went to grab the hood and say this beast on there!

I've got spiders like that all over my yard, found one in my garage last week! The wife said we're moving if we find any in the house!
Just went outside to see Sapperfire off and there were 8 of them in the middle of their fresh webs all over the edge of my car port. 8 seemed like a good number so I grabbed my Makarov 9mm that holds 8 shots and went to town! Sapper shot this one super big ass one and it just EXPLODED!
Gotta love livin in teh styx. :)

Glad I got to come out and help, was nice seein my buddy again..and dude, those spiders are nuts out there, when I sloshes the pan of coolant in the yard and like 8 of em took off runnin from where it landed, looked crazy...I dunno what's worse, those huge creepy lookin spiders, or the 1/2 billion grasshoppers

At least they aren't camel spiders...I wouldn't come to your house anymore..lol

So my Wideband ond new coils showed up today. I am curious of the coils cause they are supposed to be OEM but have no markings at all. They seem to all work though. Somehow my card wiped that had all the new coil pics sooooo.... who cares. We all seen coils before.

So just a shot of the old ones and my new PLX Widband I will install this weekend. :wrench

bill how the hell do you have your belt on the new crank pulley, i dont see the belt coming around the pulley, i see it coming from the power steering pulley to the crank, but i dont see it on the other side of the crank?????
that looks like a march crank pulley thats what i have too, but i have the water pump pulley and alt pulley also.

WTF???????????????????? how the hell does that belt work without slipping on the crank? i'm not saying you guys dont have it right, but i know thats not how the belt is run stock, i only assume because of the blower you had to change the routing of the belt. i know the belt should be wrapped 3/4's of the way around the crank. it just looks like with such little belt on the actual crank pulley that you would be losing some grip! i'm not questioning you bill, i just never saw the belt come straight from the p.s pump to the crank like that!
god look how simple that is though compared to the nitemare i am going to have!!!

You also have two belts.

You would think belt slip is an issue but it dont seem to slip at all. Never hear it anyway and the car always peaks at 8.1-8.4 total boost depending on air temp.
I agree that it looks weird and it worried me too but it seems to work so far. Dont know how else to run the belt. I am told that if I do get belt slippage then I need to order this $400 tensioner that has a super strong spring in it so I may check one out in the furture.

Also I may just spray some belt juice and see if it helps should I start to get some slippage. I get a quick chirp when at full boost and then let off.

Nope, its a funky lookin wrap but its what works. I would like more wrap around the crank but it just aint gonna happen.

You're probably right, the only other pics I could find did not show the belt wrap well down low and all the others were a completely different setup.

See the C heads run dual belts and have a nice wrap. But since my blower snout is right next to the alt pulley its pretty impossiable to route the belt any other way. When the OEM crank pulley was on there it had a whole bunch more contact. So after I get a built bottom end I will push it back to the 16+ psi and have a better crank wrap. :)
