Buy your parts and the shop I use will hook you up cheaper than anyone else. He is in Bloomington and is certified mechanic that has built many motors. He owns a shop and just him and his father are the only people that work there. I have had them build two motors for me and never had a problem. They built a 4.6 DOHC for my Mach 1 and badass 340 for my Duster. If you want to be charged more, but still have a good motor built with your parts, Precision Engines in Bloomington built my uncles 97 Cobra
engine. He was like you and wouldn't listen to me and his motor cost him about 900 bucks more in labor. That is a trak-lok and stall converter in terms of parts. Find yourself a cheap Mark pos and part it out keep the motor strip it down to the block. Have the block bored 30 over and fill it with forged internals, get some nice heads and so on. Also, why are you against centrifugal superchargers. They are perfectly capable of making 700-800hp with a properly built motor. I have a Vortech V-2 in the for sale section for $1500. It alone add 134hp and 88ft.lb/tq to my bone stock Mach 1 until I had a motor built for it and got a Procharger.
