Cool. What is the part number for the green top SVT pump?

Does it still allow full use of the fuel indicator as others mentioned they had issues with?

You are really missunderstanding the fuel reading issue. The fuel will read normal if it was working beforehand but if the PUMP couldnt sit at normal height then it couldnt suck fuel even though some is there.

DLF says it drops right in and is a DIRECT swap, that would mean....... it drops right in and works like factory as its a DIRECT swap. :)

This is what I said above, I did this swap 2 years ago and it's been running fine since with tons of 7000rpm, nitrous assisted 1/4 mile runs. The Walbro is not reccomended for a variable voltage fuel system like the gen 2. It's different than a gen 1, almost a hybrid of a return and returnless system. The 98 Cobra is the same way, ask the people on the Cobra forums, Walbro pumps fail often on the 98 Cobras... I don't understand why people needed DLF to confirm this you don't believe me lol?

I also have a '98 Cobra and I'm aware of those issues as well.

But, some people like pics, so here they are.

1. Stock Basket/Pump
2. Stock Pump/SVT Focus Pump
3. Stock Pump Polarity
4. SVT Focus Pump Installed/Wired

BTW, I keep reading about "reversing the polarity", but that is not correct. Positive is still positive, and negative is still negative, it's just that the Mark VIII color coded wires are counterintuitive.

The Gen II variable voltage system needs a different type of pump than the earlier cars, or a Thunderbird SC. The generic Walbro pump, such as a GSS342, is designed to operate on a fixed voltage. As stated earlier in this thread, they may fail if used in the Gen II's or the 98 Cobra.

Read the section on 98-04 Mustang Pumps HERE to get an understanding of the differences.

If you look, you'll notice that the sites selling Walbro pumps do not list them for either the 97/98 Mark VIII or the 98 Cobra.

Having said that, there are many people who seem to be running the generic Walbro pumps sucessfully, in modified baskets, but I choose not to take the chance.

Other options may be the Lincoln Aviator or Ford GT pumps, but I haven't tried those myself, only read about them.

Are you anywhere near Steeda? THIS looks like a Focus pump, and it's way cheap @ $139.95, compared to buying the whole SVT Focus basket that you can't use.

Interesting. Learn something new all the time here. Makes me want to change my pump out. Its a 255 Walbro and has about 40K on it with no issues but with the blower its not worth the risk. :(
 
An electric motor isn't going to fail from variable voltage... its an electric motor... not some type of magic fuel moving device... wtf do you think the Kenne Belle Boostapump does?

Cars are SIMPLE, do not over think things.

I paid $125 for the basket and all and you can use the basket. you just have to swap to top with yours. been there done it.

It works fine.

If it goes to hell I will be the first one to post it up.
What you did is great, no basket hacking is what a lot of people are looking for.

Yet once again I have the Walbro 255 and it dropped right in my 98 with NO mods.... SVO even watched me.
 
Would have to pull it out to tell you. It was in the 97 when I bought it. Mike told me he got it on ebay and it was a listing that was always $70. Said it dropped right in. Said it was a Walbro but wasnt advertized as such. When I pulled it I searched the PN and it was Walbro 255 so I didnt question it. All I had to do in the 98 was reverse the power wires and it slipped in and bolted right up with no mods.
 
I ended up ordering an SVT pump from Jegs today $129.99 + shipping (after price match from Summit). They said it will be in my hands by Friday morning.
