i have the twin piston aluminum cobra calipers on the front of my 97, stocks in the rear, with cobra rotors all 4 corners. my back brakes work perfect and are silent, the front brakes suck major ass. i dont know what it is causing it, but when i come to a stop my front calipers pop, snap, sound like they are gonna break off the car. i have had these things off and on a million times in the last 6 months trying to figure out wtf is wrong with them, they make so much noise, and when i put the car in reverse and let it roll back and lightly push and release over and over they sound like they are moving back and fourth, the calipers i mean, it is 100% the front brakes, i have already determined it, the car has brand new strut rod bushings, ball joints, end links, tie rods nothing in the front makes any noise until i step on the brake, if i had a way to put my camera in the wheel well i would take a video. at this point i am going to rip all this cobra bulls--t off and put factory brake rotors and calieprs back on, it will look horrible with the 18 inch wheels, but i cant take the brakes anymore the noises are loud and you can hear it as i drive through my neighborhood echo off things.
i do not like how the cobra calipers mount to the caliper bracket, i mean it slips in and you slide a pin and c-clip in to hold them on, to me that blows, i like the factory calipers how they bolt to the bracket, thats how it should be, what other options do i have so i dont have to lose my big rotors?

Edit: While I have you here, did you look and make sure you have the little d shaped steel/rubber insulators, on the calipers. IT is common for people not to put them back on. Then the caliper moves around in the mount. You should have 2 for each caliper.
 
Do you have drilled, slotted or dimpled rotors? Just for a test, you throw on different brand pads? As for the 1 pin locking in caliper, I like it. Only bad thing is that tiny C clip which you and I know is gonna go "sprang" and fly into na na land! I hope you track it down and fill us in.

Jaime, I have the exact same set up and have same issues with the noises. I can't stand them, but I live with it because it stops so much better then stock. Just saving my money till I get the brembos for even better stoping power
 
I also have the same set up on my 95 mustang and the brakes make those annoying noises!!!
 
andrew i have whats pictured above but there aint no rubber on there. my phone is off, its mothers day and i am hanging with the wife! and i'll sell the car before i buy brembo's this car has already costs me too much i'm not putting more money into it, i'll go back to stock brakes before i spend loot like that.
 
Jamie, it might sound cheapish but just as a test, pull the pins and tightly wrap electrical tape around the pin. If there is room for the pin to move, there has to be room for a taped pin to slide in. If it goes in tight, there shouldn't be any movement to distort the tape back to bare metal again. Might stop the noise for a week or it might stop it till you change the brakes again, never know.
 
Makes no sense to me. I have the big brakes and they are silent? Mine are tagged ROUSCH but I bet they are the same as COBRA. And as a matter of fact, the '96 has Cobra front brakes too and I've never heard noises from them either.

I changed mine over to cobra as well and have had no problems.No noise and man do they stop this car.
 
well mine have been on there for over a year since i bought it and its been doing this for the last 6 months at least so i know i am not crazy. i mean elliot wrote above ^ his same set up is doing the same thing. i dont care how good they stop the car, you drive my car for a week and you'll care less how good they stop too, i just want the f-ing noise gone i dont want no tape or heat shrink bandaid i want the crap gone for good. i'm gonna end up going back to stock if thats what i have to do to get rid of the sounds. i cant figure out why it does it i have been over the front end so many times that putting stock brakes on it is the only thing i can see being left just get rid of the problem.
 
You may have bad piston seals. They are cheap. I have had 6 ..... 7 cars ... wait, 8 cars with these same calipers and never had any noises EXCEPT on my 96 Cobra. Turned out it was just bad anti-rattle clips. They used to clunk on expansion joints in the road.

Also they dont like it when the pads get below 50% and on Marks there are problems (sometimes) with new pads. The reason why new pads may cause an issue is if you dont use factory copper crush washers. The banjo bolt will make contact with the back of the piston with parts store washers cause they are too thin.
