Anyone use a centercap for an rear upper spring locator

I've heard of using an old snowflake center cap with a hole drilled in the center. You use a bolt and nut through the hole and then the tabs on the center cap kinda snap over the spring. If someone could give me some insight on the size of the bolt, it would really help me out. I wish I would have bought a lowering kit while they still made them. However i built my own kit for way cheaper than they ever were.

Might be easier just to advertise for used rear springs, and use the bracket that comes with the springs instead.

Seems there are conversions that are available from time to time. :)

The brackets that came with my kit were pretty rugged pieces of metal. . Not sure how durable a center cap off the wheel would be under the loads those springs will be seeing.
 
A center cap being used for a spring locator could end up something like this.

I'm looking to eventually switch the springs on the strutmasters kit to Eibach or other lowering springs. You can just switch the springs on the coil conversion kits?
 
Could someone maybe give the dimensions of the locator with the kits and maybe a pic and I will make my own. The guys on that other froum swear by the center cap method, but then again there is a reason I joined this forum and not theirs. I asked eddie for the dimensions and he never emailed me back. I already bought t-bird front struts, eibach springs, front strut mounts, and poly rear spring isolators for an 03/04 cobra. No one will just sell the upper spring locator from a standard height kit either. Don't want to weld one in really, but I may have to.

I found what I was looking for on page 62. Also found out that the rear is maybe gonna sit 1/2 inch lower because of the LCA on the mark is different that the T-bird
 
Yes the rear will sit lower, which causes bad camber wear on the tires, if you have the lowered rear springs I suggest putting a 1" isolater under them
 
My favorite upper perch method is cutting one off of a cougar or thunderbird and welding it on, cheap, effective, safe, direct fit.
 
I have some poly rear isolators for the rear springs. Will that give me the ride height I need. I was under the impression that it would still be a half inch lower than the front
 
Thanks for the info but 300 is more than i paid for the all the parts to so the conversion. Also I am not a "spy" I searched high and low for a solution to not being able to buy a lowering kit anymore. I also looked on lincolns of distinction as well as tccoa and other boards--So ban me if you want to. Didn't realize you all hated markviii.org so much. I appreciate anyone who loves Mark VIII's and I never hate on anyone who is willing to take the tifme to help someone in need. Remember- Judge not, lest ye be judged yourself.
 
Alright guys, brought back an old thread! Philly (Josh) just sold me his spring conversion that I will be installing as soon as it arrives. Any ideas? I need the perches so obviously I may have to have them fabricated but just wanted to know if anyone had a spare set somewhere that they wanted to sell me!
