What's the difference between fully synthetic and synthetic blend? Which one is better?

Blend has synthetic and regular engine oil.
Full synthetic is better.
Really had to ask?

its pretty self explanatory.

as far as motorcraft semi, i have read that is some of ,if not the best semi syn available

Phillips 66 makes a good Synthetic blend that i have put in my work truck.

i have tried the motorcraft and went back to mobile 1 the blend didnt seem to last as long and at higher rpms the motor would tick.

Synthetic really is nice to say your putting it in your engine, but look how long so many of these engines have lasted on regular engine oil? 200k Easily? Now if the car was hopped up, I could justify using full synthetic, but me personally, I'll forever use Motorcraft synthetic blend.

:iconcur: In the beginning of these cars lives the owners most likely had a lot of Ford service which was just basic Motorcraft 5W30 motor oil. Everyone has their oil of choice. I'll bet both are good choices.

I use the motorcraft oil in all my mod motors, it is cheap and a good oil... research on BITOG shows great OA's...

Both are great oils, you can't go wrong with either choice.

Why not step up to a 0W-20 or 5W-20? Ford recommends 20 grade in our cars now in a service bulletin.

As far as the car goes that Jamie is going to get, he could care less if it has synthetic in it or not. He will use Mobil 1 but it's Mobile 5000 or 7500 conventional oil. That's what he had in the 95 when I went and bought it.

I can say that when I bought that car from him, it did not leak one drop of oil but now that I have Mobile 1 FS in it, it leaks just a little. Might try the synthetic blend on the next change or sooner.

Just had a good conversation with my mechanic, and he's been putting 5W20 in Ford Vehicles for quite some time. I also checked with Ford as well. 20W30 is now the recommended oil.

Meh, I have seen first hand what a 100+K Modular motor looks like on the inside thats used Mobil 5w30 its whole life and it looks new so I will stick with it. Not sure what the 160K motor thats in the car had for oil but I would bet it was 5x30 as well and it looks almost as clean. I am just one of those people that sticks with what I know works.

Its like some of you use Mercon V in the power steering. I have in the past and have had various leaks appear and bad seals turn up. Not saying the Mercon was the problem but every car I ran Valvoline High Mile power steering fluid in has never leaked and has stopped small leaks.

So use what ever you feel comfertable with I guess.

On a side note it makes me wonder what was used in that engine Jamie just tore apart.

Yea, but apparently Ford says 5W20 works better.

The decision to switch to 5w20 was probably more of a CAFE thing than a reliability thing. I pretty much use whatever's on sale (though I do avoid Pennzoil and house brands.)

i ran regular mobile 1 synthetic - 5w 30? - whatever is recommended by the factory. i changed it every 5K. If it's stock stay with the recommendation I say but if your changing stuff do your homework and make an educate decision. In my opinion, the ability to read your spark plugs and oil is half the battle in hot roddin'. Thanks old heads!

lol too many numbers for gman lol

yup ford says run 5w20 in everything except for the 4.0 (cuz its crap)
ive been running 5w20 in both my FoMoCo's since 07 and my mark has 176k and my exploder has 227k so go 5w20 go!
also a side note, right after i swapped over to 5w20 in 07 was when i laid down my best times at the track, 15.169 bone stock back to back :shifty:

I've been running 5W30 in the wife's '97 LSC, 10W30 in my '96 (cuz it's got more miles), and 20W50 in my '94 Exploder with the 4.0L V-6. Given the conversations here, I think I'll switch to 5W20 in the Marks and...maybe...10W40 in the Exploder. It's only got 135K miles on it, holds good oil pressure, and runs great. So what the heck.
