About to buy my first MarkVIII

Even the 2 piece shafts drop down all in one piece. We're not meaning that the shaft would be dropped down in 2 pieces.

Okay. Hmmm. When somebody says "two-piece driveshaft" the first thing that comes to my mind is a driveshaft that has a u-joint at the transmission, a u-joint at the diff, and a cv-joint in the middle.

Like this:

I've seen several of those. Mostly on European cars. And on some 1960's Buicks. When I took the shaft down on the '96, granted it was several years ago, it was one solid shaft from the transmission to the differential. Anybody got a pic of the two piece shaft?

It was manufactured in two pieces and welded together. In 93 they just used one piece. That is the short version without getting to far into it.

Ahhhh. After I thought about it for a minute or two, that's the conclusion I came up with. I do vaguely remember that there may have been a bead around the shaft. Like I said, it's been several years since I had it down. And my memory ain't what it used to be. Now if someone had said two-piece welded driveshaft, that would have made more sense to me.

Also it's very easy to tell an early model 93 from the revised...pop the hood...is the intake smooth or are there 3 huge dimples in the top...the first 93s had the dimples, and came with the better ECU...however, I replaced my original intake tube for the revised non-dimple style...so that's not always correct..but if it's got the dimpled intake, chances are it's the stock one and it's the earlier model :-)

My 93 is awesome, they ALL have their lil probs here and there as do ALL cars....

a buddy and I raced, he owns the white 98 LSC and has 3/73 gears , dual exhaust and tune as where mine did not at the time..and I won from the roll both times
You won from the roll on the top end. Untill 80 I had you both times. Tell everyone how well you did when we launched from a dead stop? :p
A 93 is the only one that pulls out 26* of advanced timing

also the rack and pinion in a 93 is better

and the actual owners of 93s are generally better...IMO

It wouldnt be pull if its advancing.

The BIG thing is the 21* of advance at throttle tip in. Thats why they feel so snappy. All the rest of the Marks only have 2* I think. Wish Tommy was here as he knows the exact ammount.

you referring the casting of the intake manifold?
Edit: I just re-read what you referring to, i get what youre saying now.

No. The intake tube itself has some dimples on it that the latter Gen 1s dont have.

93s have the same everything else under the hood with the exception of a head revision. I only know there was a small change but do not know what it was and what difference it made.

Not all 93s had the dimpled intakes, only the early ones, I'm not sure when the switch was made according to vehicle birth dates, but I'm pretty sure the intakes were changed as well as the ECU when they did the switch...so the revision was a higher flowing intake tube, and crappier ECU

2 Things, I thought the 2 peice drive shaft had a rubber sleeve inside of it. Second thing is I guess I was basing price with that silver first gen that Jamie is trying to sell, that car is a gem, but he can't even get 2k for it right now...

Jamie can't get 2k cause he lives in the land of Rust free marks
Up here in the salt belt it would sell much faster

The rubber sleeve could be possible but I do know the 93 has a cardboard sleeve inside of it. I have one here that's cut in half.

The car Jamie is trying to sell right now has a few problems but they are all minor. I still may even fly down there for that one but it will be in September when I do, if he still has it.

Ive learned cars this old you get what you pay for. The one I saw was beat. Going to look at one more this weekend but Im pretty sure one cant be had under $2500 in good condition. Going to refocus my search. Instead of looking for the deal of the year im going to look for one thats in amazing condition and go from there.
