Ive always had a respect for these cars. Found one for a respectable price 1993 but before I go through I wanted some opinions. Im very performance orientated so Im sure Ill be modding it. Being that its OBD1, how hard is it to get it tuned and what type of performance options are still out there? I take it I can just do what most the 96-98 cobras guys do as far as engine mods? Thanks in advance.
 
You can do..gears, jmod, exhaust, stall tc, intake, internals, susspension, steering, brakes, ect ect...

Now quit teasing us and show some pictures
 
The best bang for the buck are: True duals, 4.10 gears and a stall. www.blueovalchips.com is where I got my SCT chip from and I love it. The order form is very detailed. You can send it back and have it reburned for any updates you make to the car.
 
Havent bought the car yet but I may today and trust me Ill have pics :D. Any cons to going with a gen1 1993? After doing some searching so far ive come up with OBD1, air suspension, and heads being some slight cons.
 
My 93 is awesome, they ALL have their lil probs here and there as do ALL cars....

a buddy and I raced, he owns the white 98 LSC and has 3/73 gears , dual exhaust and tune as where mine did not at the time..and I won from the roll both times

IMO 4:30s are too much, but I know there will be someone come in here behind me and tell me i'm dumb. Gears are preference. Do a search and you will find everyones opinions on the different gear ratios. Most people do 3:73s or 4:10s, and some do higher... The heads arent necessarily a con on this motor, but your options for power adders or different intakes are better with a later (c head) setup, gen1 are B. Stock for stock, most people believe a Gen1 is always faster for many reasons. Weight being one factor and tuning, because the gen2s got a little bit cushier.

One benefit of a 93 is your car has a 1 peice driveshaft, everything after 93 has a 2 peice. This is good because if you go with a higher ratio gear, you have less chance for vibration. Most M8 owners want a 93 drive shaft.

Oh, and isnt there soemthing about certain tear tags in 93 had the most aggresive ignition timing? Anyone know?
 
A 93 is the only one that pulls out 26* of advanced timing

also the rack and pinion in a 93 is better

and the actual owners of 93s are generally better...IMO

Some of this has to do with what PCM you have. W3Z2 or W3Z3

i always wanted to know what the diff was between the 2 ECU's. as soon as i find a SCT Chip, ill drop in my W2Z2 to replace my W3Z3.

My guess would be because the first one was just a little too fast and it didn't have the speed limiter. Could have had something to do with insurance purposes such as liability against Lincoln, I don't know but that PCM is the fastest. I also think the 93 is the lightest out of all stock Marks.
 
Things are sounding good. Going to look at the car today. Where is the ECM located on these cars? If its somewhere easy I may be able to check the ecm real quick while looking the car over. BTW, its a 93 with 114k miles for what its worth. Dont know how much theyre going for but based on kbb and if all checks out I may have a decent deal.
 
up underneath the dash next to the brake pedal (left side). take off panel and unhook plastic clip. you may have to unbolt the 8mm bolt that holds the wiring harness on, to access the catch code on ECU.
**dont forget to disconnect your battery before you start this**.
 
Thanks for all the great info. I know its hard to gauge a car without seeing it but whats the going rate for a fair 93 with 114k?

That's not entirely true. My '96 has a one-piece driveshaft. And as far as I know, it's stock.

If it did come with a one piece stock, then that is the first time I have ever heard of that!

If it's one piece, someone put it in there. The 94 and up appear to be one piece but if you see a gap close to the rear of the shaft, which you might not because of where it's located, it would be a 2 piece.

I've had the driveshaft down twice. Once to replace the rear seal on the transmission, and again to replace the same seal cuz I messed it up the first time. Both times, the shaft came out as one piece. I thought they were all once piece until I heard someone here say that some Marks had two-piece shafts. And I haven't gone under the '97 yet to look. But it's probably got the two-piece.

I'm not the first owner of the car, but I got it in 2001. In those five years, somebody could have replaced the original with a one-piece. Anything's possible. But I have had the shaft out and it is one-piece.

Not over 3K but depending on color combo and the shape it's in. Did it live in an environment where rust would gather? Is the interior in good shape. That is low mileage for a 93. The one my dad bought was a black on black, not excellent but very good condition for $2950 from Georgia. One owner. Within 6 months, the car was totaled. Had 112K on the clock.
