    Cranks but won't start

2004 LS V8 with 71k miles. Car started this morning and ran for about 10 seconds before stalling. Now it cranks but won't start, but cranking does not sound normal - like no compression as if you were cranking with the spark plugs removed. Engine has been running fine with no unusual noises...

if a coil-on-plug goes bad will i throw a code for the specific COP?

Autozone by me still checks for free. I heard that they were no longer able to do this in California but as far as I know everywhere else still does it.

100k coil warranty / ECT Failsafe Mode

I was afraid of that. Visteon does have a chinese plant which makes COPs so quality is probably the same as the Hungary parts, but no reason to pay double just for the Motorcraft sticker. I found someone who still had some leftover DG515s for $40 each but they didn't have a full set. I had a...

100k coil warranty / ECT Failsafe Mode

Unfortunately if I switch the bad coil back to #4 it goes into failsafe almost immediately - and since Ford dropped Mercury both of the dealers closest to me aren't dealers any more. It's only about 10 miles to another dealer but not a trip I'd want to take at 10 mph in failsafe. I assume that...

100k coil warranty / ECT Failsafe Mode

Swapped the #1 and #4 coils and drove for a couple hours with no ETC failsafe, swapped them back and didn't even get out of the driveway. So now I know it's a bad #4 coil, but with the "bad" coil in the #1 spot it runs fine - no misfires, no codes, so is the dealer really going to be willing to...

100k coil warranty / ECT Failsafe Mode

Never felt a miss at all, it runs perfect right until it goes into failsafe. It's not just under load, it's gone into failsafe just sitting at a traffic light or backing out of the driveway. I'll still swap the coils to be sure, but I'm leaning that it might not be coil related. Whatever it...

100k coil warranty / ECT Failsafe Mode

I have a 2004 LS V8 with 65k miles, it's recently started going into ECT failsafe mode intermittently (three times in four days). I know it's time for the coils to start going, I was wondering what experience people have had in getting them fixed under the 10 year/100,000 mile warranty? I'm...

    RR Window Regulator $23.61

Must be a price mistake, grab em quick - Amazon has Motorcraft WLR5 passenger rear window regulators for $23.61. Unfortunately the left side is still $58.

    P0420 Code

I had to have a cat replaced at 38,000. Misfiring coils cause it to run rich and clog the cat.

Difference between Group 65 and group 66 Batteries

Battery gave out over the weekend after dealer closed. Only place I could find anything was Napa could order the proper group 66 battery for Monday, but they listed the group 65 as a replacement with modified venting. Only physical difference is the group 65 has vents at each end of the...

    Surging problem

Once you are stopped, does the idle drop back to 700 or does it stay steady at 1000? Mine does the same thing, but it's just where the transmission kicks down to first gear right before you stop.

    General Altimax HP tires

Has anyone tried these, or seen any actual test results? They're close to the top of the Tire Rack owner surveys, but not a lot of reviews in yet and I haven't found any head to head tests.

    Not Coils....WTF is going on????

Intake manifold gasket I had the same problem on my '04, one bank lean, one bank rich, miscellaneous misfires. Also O2 sensor and TB codes. Dealer replaced a couple of coils, TB, MAF, O2 sensors and the PCM before figuring out it was an intake manifold gasket leak.

    07M07/07N09 extended to 2004 models

The way I read it there are two separate parts: 07M07 states that if the engine misfires due to a bad coil, they will replace the coil. Doesn't matter whether it was due to water, oil or just age, or how many times they go bad during the first 100,000 miles. 07N09 is the part where they...

    07M07/07N09 extended to 2004 models

I know this came out a year ago for 2003 models, I just got the letter that my 2004 is now included in the 10 year / 100,000 mile coil warranty.

    What's wrong?

Is it worse now, or it's always done it and you just didn't worry about it for a while? How big of a hill are we talking about? Does the jerking stop if you downshift to 4th? This could just be the torque converter locking and unlocking. If coils are starting to go bad, it will get worse...

    Replace Air Filter Soon message

Ok, I'm getting the "replace air filter soon" message. The manual talks about a "replace AC (cabin) filter soon" message, but nothing about an air filter message. Is this the same message? I replaced the engine air filter a couple of months ago, and I checked the cabin filter and it's fine...

What exactly does the warranty cover

It's a bumper to bumper warranty for the first 4 years / 50,000 miles, so anything not accident related should be covered. It's 4 years from the sale date, not the build date.
