Where the hell is Frogman??????

WOW... He hasn't been around for a few months.....

Normally, I would agree. But the search function on this site SUCKS DONKEY BALLS!!!!!!!!!!!!:D

Seriously. I typed in "top speed 98 LSC" and came up with a million off the wall posts that had nothing at all to do with the top speed of a '98 LSC. Honestly, if I knew the answer I'd just tell the OP and save all the sarcasm and snottiness. But alas, I don't know, so apparently I'll have to use the useless search function too.:(

I thought the limiter was at 130? im sure you could disable it with a tune

speed limit is lower on LSCs because of gearing.
its not actually a "speed" limiter per say. its a driveline rotational speed limiter.
lower gears (higher numerically) have a lower speed at the same rotational limit.
like with my 4.10s the limit puts my top speed at 100 ish.

Ehhh idk about the stck lscs being gearing limited. My lsc drops into 4th at around 105-110ish and has enough rpms to go i think 140+

not gearing limited. its an electrical limit in the computer that shuts the engine down.
i've heard of marks running 155-160. power and gearing is not the issue.

the stock computer will only let the driveshaft spin so fast.
driveshaft spinning at the same limit will have a lower top speed with 3.27s (lsc) than with 3.08s (base).

on my sniper it says stock, 120, or 130.no provision for eliminating it,and it allows for gear ratio and tire height, and i believe you said i need to change speedo gear. i mean top speed is top speed if your speedo is correct it should cut out at the same speed reguardless of gears if you did all that, right?

I know my '96 base hit the limiter at 126+/- a couple of times. It was interesting because it was 20mph higher than my mom's '97 Cougar. It hits the limiter at 106. I haven't tried to hit the limiter in the '97 LSC yet. I have had it up to 120+/- but that's about it so far.

In 3rd gear we hit 140 MPH with Whiner on the rollers with 3.73 gears and stock wheels.

I had my old 94 at 165.

Not something I ever choose to do again. The mark isn't exactly the most Aerodynamicaly stable design on the planet.

It gets a bit to light in the nose.

One of these days I'm gonna try the '97 and see what she'll do. The fastest I've ever been in a car was 155 in my '88 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe back in 1995-ish. I loved that car! Since then, 126 in the ol' "96 Mark was about the fastest I've cared to venture. I'd like to take the Cobra out for a top speed run some day, but I'm kind of worried about the top. Wonder how fast it'll go before the top comes flying off?:D

Now Jamie and someone else here will say I am off by like 3 mph but from experience and hitting it many many many many times I can tell you the LSC is limited to 127. I have hit it and read codes saying I hit it. Base cars can do 140 before they hit the limiter. I have also hit the limiter at 124 with slightly shorter tires but thats because the speed limiter is DS rotational limit, not really a car limit.
93s seem not to have limiters because I have seen Sappers old 93 bury the speedo when stock.

my 93 hit the limit at 130.
with both the w3z3 and w3z2 computers.

Chris, I think your gears are what's holding you back because we both have the W3Z2 computers that aren't speed limited from the factory. I know mine will hit 140 and I would say + but it's hard for me to do that around here and I really don't like getting up to that speed. I have T rated tires but they handle the speed fine, well, they did once. I just got a speeding ticket last October coming back from Florida so I have a bit of anxiety worrying about troopers and plus hitting that kind of speed. I didn't swap computers for top speed anyway, I done it because they were tuned with more spark, 15 psi more trans fluid pressure and knowing I can pass 130 if I wanted to, plus various other reasons.

It seems like most stock Marks besides the ones with the (93's only) W3Z2 computer normally hit 127 and then they shut down. Maybe some are a bit faster and some slower.

130 is stock, but as mentioned its not really a speed limit but a drivetrain rotational limit. Also the speedos at high speed are not exacting, 127 or 130 is the same really. The LSC will limit out sooner.

The limits can be removed with Pro Racer software from SCT. I did so, but the limiter is in a couple locations. 3rd gear can also be adjusted to stay in place at high speed. I think it maxes out though at around 155. Second gear is okay to about 90ish.

The true top speed is around 170 without rear door mirrors and rear brakes. As done on the Bonneville flats.
