Is there a way to manually control torque converter lock up? I would like to be able to manually lock up the torque converter in 2nd gear to keep transmission temperatures down while towing.

It will lock up by itself, if you use the '2' polition, but depending on conditions. 'cause you can use engine braking in the '2', I'm pretty shure, it sometimes locks up.

Easy solution. Dont tow with it. Towing 2 tons for 1500+ miles with a Mark VIII is one of the dumbest things I have seen on here since the hammer to the valve cover incident.

Hmmm, mine doesn't seem to lock up when manually shifted into 2nd gear.

Looks like I need to find the wire that energizes the torque converter lock up function and hook it up to a toggle switch. This would eliminate slippage which creates heat.

seriously, borrow a friends truck, you are wasting time and money on trying to tow with this, rent a u-haul and a trailer, seriously unless you don't want your mark after this trip be my guest.

Don`t think it will work, but you can try.

Mine has a Reese brand hitch on it, hardly noticeable. I`ve never used it,......other than keeping the rear bumper intact on steep driveways.

or you can do the OTHER solution when you want to command certain gears, put a MANUAL transmission in it.............otherwise just FU(K your car up

if i ever see some idiot towing something with a Mark8, i think ill have to do a pit manuever...especially if its heading towards Texas

If it`s a small utility trailer, I don`t really see any problems.
Well,......other than looking silly.

BUY A TRUCK!!!!!!

I'm pretty sure it will eliminate something!

The trans will take care of shifting all on its own. Don't :q:q:q:q with it. The trans works the way it is supposed to, if you were supposed to manually control tc lock up, the car would have come with a button from the factory. The slime thing was bad enough, i think you need to set the tools down before you tear up a perfectly good mark...

it has slime in it = not perfectly good

what is he trying to tow a 30 foot camper? i used to use a 4 x 8 utility trailer to get motors i sold or big body panels in crates to the shipping company. i towed it with my 97 mark, but i had no choice, i was also only towing 200 to 400 lbs max, its not a vehicle you tow with, those are called TRUCKS

No, this stupid fock wants to tow a 4x4 pickup over 1500 miles with his Mark VIII.

He wants to do this cause one, hes to fuggin cheap to just buy a ticket and go fly to get the truck. 2, cause hes to fuggin stupid to know how to put the the car on a dolly or trailor and tow IT with the truck. 3, hes too fuggin lazy to disco the driveshaft on the Mark to tow it the other dumb way. 4, he has no friends so nobody will go with him to drive the secondary vehicle.

Let him tow the truck with the Mark. With any luck the brakes will fail and him, the truck and the now ruined Mark will all fly off a bridge.

:Bang
wow i wouldnt tow a truck 1500 miles with a mark, but then again, i also wouldnt eat a shards of glass popsicle.

Heh, I drove through texas towing a Buick Apollo with my old 94 Mark (from BFE, Kansas back to Albuquerque, NM.) It worked fine. About 20-30k later the one way took a dump, probably would've happened anyway.

I'm not saying it's SAFE to tow that kind of weight, but it's entirely possible to do without FU(King anything up. The running gear is almost the same as an F150, and it's not like it's gonna tweak the unibody. Safe is more up to the driver than the tow rig.

I think it's the one under the dash that goes to or from the car.
I'm not one to wish bad things to people, so don't tow with your mark it's just a bad idea. I know everyone on here has said it and they deffenatly have more knowledge on the subject than you or they wouldn't be telling you otherwise. Can we make a special place on here for retarded people who ask retarded questions and then ignore any and all logical answers?!

Does anyone know which wire controls the lock up?
Which wire? So to you the TC is just some big solinoid? Couldnt possible be a function of load, pressure, RPM, trans temp and car speed? Couldnt be a function precisly controlled by the computer? Its just on and off right?

You are sofa king we todd did.
