Well guys? Take a wild guess? Another "My car is broken thread" from another member & ofcourse definitely not the first thread I post of my car being broken since it has been sitting broken for 3 months now! Long story short I just bought 2 VCRM's from JRHerald 2 days ago, I just got them this afternoon, I tried them both & neither one of them worked. I have replaced a total of 3 VCRM's on my car & none have worked. The fan works when I run a wire to it from the fuse box which means the fan works fine but the cable gets hot as balls!!! I'm done with this & any Lincoln Mark VIII! I'm tired of this car. I've spent over $3k on this car & it's never thanked me long enough. All I ask from my car in return is time to enjoy it but that never happens. I never get more than 2-3 months to enjoy the car when something new goes wrong with it, it's been sitting for 3 months because of this crap, I'm broke, I'm about to get married in February, my truck is getting old so it needs maintenance, I spent $45 on the first VCRM & now $60 on the other 2 I just purchased & my car is still a piece of sh!t! I'm simply fed up!!!!!!!!!!! Anyway, sorry guys I'm just venting my anger as I believe that the MARK VIII project is truly not a car for someone with my budget. I need a Mustang or something in that vicinity!

I hear You...Sorry to hear about Your Car Problems......
Sold My Mark 2 weeks ago for same reasons.....Cost of parts & constant repairs & down time versus Pocket book $$$$ & Aggrevation!!!
Great Cars Mark VIIIs but A PITA!!!!

It sucks to hear man, sometimes youve just got to know when to walk away......my 68 Mustang was a good example of that.....

take it to a real mechanic get problem fixed enjoy car
how do you know you got 3 bad vrcms have one put into a
car that you know works to check them you are probably tring to fix something
thats not even broken

if you replaced 3 of them your problem lies somewhere else. either you have a broken wire (s) in your vcrm harness or your ac is empty, or too low for the ac to work and not let the fan come on.

this has nothing to do with the a/c as I have run with out it many times
a broken wire (s) is much more likely if you dont want a mechanic you need to
buy the manuals and follow the diagnostic charts

I know your a nice/good guy so I mean this as nicely as possible but...

Cars don't fix themselves, if you can't fix it, you need to take it someone that can. You buy a new car, you have car payments and you spend what you would have spent on your car every three months, every month on a new car. And another used car is going to have problems too, if you can't fix them when they happen.

I too like ya and wanna help.

So here goes. What gauge wire did you use to test the fan? Did you only run the hot? If you used a 12awg or thicker and it got hot its because either the fan motor is almost completly toast OR you have a bad ground. If the VCRM sees too high of a load then it just wont switch on.

Ok, I just got online so I'll be quoting almost everyone on here!!! lol.... THanks for the support

As some of you know, I was making over $53k p/y the last 8 years but after 10 months of unemployment I finally landed a job but it only pays me $15.00

I'm getting married in February so taking it to a mechanic to rape me (because it's a Lincoln) is out of the question! I'm truly, truly broke! I have about $400.00 to my name after paying rent on the 1st a few days ago! This is the worst I've been in years so that also doesn't help!

Jamie, if you check the last thread I created (which was just resurrected by another member) I do mention that the a/c is completely full. Needs no refrigerant.

How do I come across those & are they user friendly? OH boy, this is what I mean, it's a pain in my balls right now!

Dan my idea was actually to sell the Lincoln & invest half the money on maintenance for my truck as it is my daily driver.

Laser? I admit, the guage of the wire was indeed thinner than the original wire but that was done by my neighbor (a mechanic) so I trusted him but the wire heated up to the point that it started melting the RED plastic around that particular fuse where I was feeding it to. I'm not trusting that dumb ass mechanic again!

Oh & by the way? I'm STILL frustrated!!!

you probably just have a wiring problem somewhere, have you checked for power at the fan

Man, I hate that you're having so many problems with your car. I had the VRCM problem a year or so ago and got one from KKid and it worked fine. And mine's the bastard child '96 model. Like someone else said, if you've replaced the VRCM 3 times, there's something else wrong. It could be possible that the fan motor is worn out and taking too much juice to make it run and that's what's causing the wires to heat up. Just try turning the blades while the engine is off. They should spin freely. If there's any resistance at all, the motor is probably bad or going bad. If the A/C isn't working, have you checked the fuses? You never know. There's also a sensor that plugs into the A/C line that has a couple of wires coming out and a rubber cover on it. I think it's next to the accumulator clost to the firewall. That sensor went bad on a '93 T-Bird I had 10 years or so ago. It will cause the A/C not to come on. Sometimes the wires get loose. Hope this helps. And I hope your financial situation improves. I know the felling. I have less money than you do. Luckily, both my Marks are running pretty good. The only big problem I have now is the rear air sprngs on the '96 and that problem will be remedied this weekend. :)

I had to replace the VCRM in my 93 and I had to splice a new pig tail with it all because somehow there was a connection IN THE PLUG that was causing two high current wires to short out. Took me a month to realize it was not the fuel pump and 2 VCRM's and a melted pig tail to find that. Allot of people on here have the manuals either in paperback or CD rom. There not that expensive if you shop around. I paid $50 for both my 94 manuals.

You won’t get squat for the car if you sell, it will just piss you off and in 6 months you will be wishing you had a mark VIII again......I say skip the wedding and fix the mark, you will be much happier………talking from experience here.:D:D

If I was still liveing in Daytona I would come help ya, but now your a little to far. Find a mechanic that you can pay under the table. That will help a little bit.

why dont you bring it to me and leave it and i will go through the whole car for free and fix all the crap that i dont have to spend money on for parts, if it needs any parts you pay them and i will fix the car for free. you have a truck so you dont need the car right now, instead of getting pissed at it and losing your shirt selling it, let me go through it and make you love her again.

Like I said before, the fan works when wired directly so yeah, there's power at the fan!

Jamie, that's the nicest thing anyone's said bro, here you are again donating your time for free away from your own family & trust me, that's beyond generous of you... You live a hop & a skip away from me compared to everyone else on here however, it would cost me an arm and a leg just to tow my car that far! Possibly what? $450? Maybe even more? THIS is my frustration with the car!!! It won't even help ME help IT!!! Remember, I'm prety much broke. The last parts I bought for the car were the MSD spark plug wires, the plugs, the new steering wheel, the VCRM's & the clock spring which is on it's way! It seems like no matter what? This car ALWAYS needs something! It's like pouring money into a bottomless pit & like I said earlier, I don't even get to enjoy the car. Oh & need I mention that it needs motor mounts, upper/lower control arms & brakes(rotors & calipers)! I'm having the same problem you were having with your former rotors. My Mark VIII is in horrible need of attention & even if by some miracle from God I towed it your way for FREE, in parts alone I would have to practically leave my car there for good!:(

A long drive on the highway should keep the engine cool, it should only overheat if you have to sit in stop and go traffic... You could probably drive to Jamie's place just fine.

You powered it directly thats not checking power to the fan I mean from the factory power wire

When I got my 96 off an Engineer friend of mine he had put a Summit aftermarket fan on the car cause he was to cheap to but a replacement motor when his died.

First thing I did was hit EBAY ($45) for another one and put it on. Did a few other things to get it to pass NJ inspection and was fine till the next 2 year inspection.

I then had 2 cells on. One I cannot remember the exact code but was that fan or that comes on after you start the car. It was no longer working and lighting a cell, so I googled it and found that it was a blown fuse in the box under the hood. That fixed it so I had to search for a wonderfull IMRC to fix the other cell. Found one and cut the old line and tapped them into the new one for a quick fix to shut the light off so I would pass inspection.

Went another 2 years and the IMRC code was on yet again but I blew the trans before I even had a chance to bother with inspection.

Anyway even tho I had to replace all the wheel bearing and brakes along with changing to LSC headlights so I could drive at night I loved the car!

Was supposed to be a temp car to get me to work in snowy NJ for a year till I found something better but it turned out to be the Chit! Paid $1000 for it and after it popped the trans I sold it for $800 after I put almost a 100k on the clock! I actually went out and got another Mark VIII but I picked up a 98' cause at least I wouldn't be worried about the trans like the 96 :shifty:

I hear ya bro. Sometimes it's just the dumbest thing. After all the crap I went through with my car and spending well over $4k in the last few months to fix it, the problem ended up being the MAF needed to be cleaned. I realized with a K&N filter the oil on it might have accumulated on the MAF resulting in improper computer signals. All it took was using MAF cleaner, resetting the battery and all of my lost acceleration was back. FINALLY!

My point to this is hang in there and start with the little things. Try to have patience, although I know it's super hard to keep calm when it seems these things are draining you dry. Sometimes it takes some out of the box thinking to fix your issues.

As for taking it to Jamie, he is excellent with his work. If you have AAA and the car breaks down you can have it towed to a destination I think within a few hundred miles (AAA platinum). That would make it so you can get it to Jamie at a very low cost.

Hang in there bud, you would regret if you sold the car after you put so much work into it, especially if it ends up being something simple and cheap.
