OK, my shop has time on Monday to do my gear and trac lok install. I have everything needed except the gear oil. What should I get? Keep in mind this will be from Autozone, O'Reilly, Pep, Napa or someplace like that. Hell, dont mind going to teh dealer eaither. I just want the absolute best I can get and dont have to order.
So what brand and weight should I get?

CANT BE ORDERED CAUSE CAR GOES IN ON MONDAY. Has to be a locally available item.

Royal Purple is good and has friction modifier already in it, if it comes with friction modifier DO NOT add more, too much and the clutches will slip too much.

Well hell, I already have a new bottle of Motorcraft FM ready to go.

I guess the Motorcraft oil is only available at Ford? And if I use the Royal Purple you say dont use the FM at all and only use the RP?

I was just about to go buy some Mobil 1 stuff.

Wow, I was thinking of asking this question since I might be doing gears soon.

I have read on a few Mustang sites and at the strip that when changing fluid GM Synchromesh is the best thing to add....that is if your fluid doesn't come with it already. Also it takes two bottles of gear oil, right? 10W90?

What ever you get read the bottle and if it has friction modifier in it dont add any more, thats what casues the clutch packs to slip and what happens to clutches that slip too much???

OK, cant seem to find any Motorcraft in stock here.

So here are the choices:

1: Get Mobil 1 75/90 and use my FRPP friction modifier
2: Get the Lucas and use my FM
3: Screw the $10 wasted on the Ford FM and buy $30 in Royal Purple oil.

Amsoil SVT gear oil is what I have in the 98, after countless burnouts and track passes it has held up very well.

Cant get Amsoil here anywhere eaither. I have always been told RP engine oil is all hype and I have ALWAYS used Mobil1 in my engines with great success. Guess that settles it. Mobil1 for the gears. :)

Royal Purple Engine oil doesnt meet 90% of the API ratings it takes to be a energy conseriving oil. There gear and trans fluid are top notch.

I bought Mobil1. No, AZ nor any other place around here has Motorcraft.
I almost bought the RP but I have a friend that works at one of those labs in CAli where they test all that kind of stuff.
In motor oil RP performed better then most for 200 miles then by 1000 miles was way way worse. With the gear oil it performed as well as Valvoline synthetic. Royal Purple does make a spray lube like WD40 that is better then everyone elses. It leavs stuff slick for much longer but its hard to find.

Anyway, Mobil is what I bought.

I betcha they do too. Problem is there is only one around here and one around my work. Neither have it in stock and neither can get it here before Tuesday. Is it gonna be better then Mobil1? If so I guess I can cancel my appointment but he wont have time again to do it untill after mid March. :(

my car has royal purple oil in the motor from the previous owner, but i think when its due for a change i might go to motorcraft thats what i put in all my marks, motorcraft 5-30 and only motorcraft filters. i want to change my diff oil too, the trac-loc is about 3 years old and dont know whats in it for fluid now but i want to change it to be safe.

Mobile 1 FS Jamie...... God, quit being so cheap with your oils. I still gotta change this :q:q:q:q you have in the 95. Mobile 5000, wtf? I can't even get down on this car with that oil in there. I'm afraid the "lubrication" isn't going to be there. Good choice on the filter though.

Cool. I figured as long as it wasnt the house brand or Valvoline I would be OK.
I almost bought some Lakewood stuff but wasnt sure how good it was.

Yeah what I was told about the RP oil is that its the best there is for racing applications where you change it every few runs but for prolonged street usage it breaks down much faster.
And use Mobil1 for the oil ya cheap bastage! Its all I will use and I also am dumb enough that I actually drain it and put in fresh stuff when I change the filter even though guys say you can run it for 9k miles if the filter is changed every 3K. I also ONLY use the Motorcraft filter. None of the other ones keep as much oil in the head. Even though the Fram is supposed to have that check valve it dosent hold like the Motorcraft version.

It's been proven that Mobil 1 FS ran for around 26,000 miles before breaking down. It was lab tested for molecular / viscosity breakdown every 3 to 5K miles. I would feel more than safe running that oil for 9,000 miles and only doing a filter change every 5K. I just feel good knowing that the Mobile 1 FS is in there. Amsoil is supposed to be good too but I'm not bothering with it when I already know something good is there to buy.

terry you can shove synthetic up your ass i dont believe in it. if i was a high roller like you, i wouldnt have to worry about buying synthetic oil, I'D OWN THE COMPANY.

Next thing you know you will be saying you dont believe in Santa either. :(
