Who wants money?

Lawyer!

Oh well, forget the conscience reference, he no longer has one... :shifty:

yea..at the end of the job..he'd say you only owe ME 450.00 for my legal advice.

lolz

he's gonna get mad at me cause I said "lawyer"..but...to keep my reputation and his accusations true.. I couldn't leave it out of this thread.

There is also an "argumentative fee" as well....

no I wasn't born with a wrench in my hand, I paid my dues...

many years of turning wrenches and I never had the benefit of a message board full of people that would spoonfeed me the answers to the questions I had.

I had a few old school mechanics that I could talk to..

BUT.. once I asked them "how to do something" I NEVER went back to them and asked them to "DO IT FOR ME".

I only ask to have it done for me because I don't have a lift, and my car sank into the ground 1 1/2" on jackstands last time it was up. I don't feel comfortable doing it that way.

I understand Multiquote, but it doenst have the desired effect to my post count.

FAIL! :p

It isn't difficult, IF you have the right tools, but it does seem to take forever.

I've done it both ways:

On my SC, in my driveway, on jack stands, on my back, using an engine hoist to support the engine (which BTW, means that the engine hoist legs are under the car with you and in the way )....

... and on the LSC, in my garage, on my lift, with an OTC Stinger engine support bar. ;)

MUCH easier the last time.

You drive up here, bring $200, and we'll do it together. When we're done, I'll bet that your conscience will make you fork over another couple of bills.

p.s. Plan on spending the weekend.

Yeah if I had access to a lift I would absolutely tackle this myself with no questions asked! I'd drive up there but the gas would cost more than it would to have it done down here ;) Thanks for the offer though.

well put, but remember.. he's going to school to be a lawyer.
by this point in his education process his conscience has been disabled/deleted.

lolZ

Funny my philosophy teacher favors me because he says I don't skew from my beliefs...If you knew me personally you would know I've been a true believer in being "just" my whole life, hence my reasoning of majoring in Philosophy before I get into law school (my main focus in philosophy is on Plato and "The Republic"). I don't believe in corruption, or screwing others over to pad my own pockets. To me other than paying the bills and having some money for retirement, I've learned that materialism and money are truly the root of all evil. My goal as a lawyer is not to be a multi-millionaire...it's to hopefully make a difference for those that are unable to fight corporations because they aren't financially able.

You don't have to worry about me losing my conscience... :)

Bah!

1,800 miles @ 25 MPG = $200
Having your car fixed correctly = $400
Getting to spend time in my garage = Priceless! :D

I hope that you retain your idealism once you get out in the world. ;)

Of course I will

well if you knew me personally you wouldn't get miffed by my BS comments, you'd know I was just kicking you in the E-nutz

I know that's why I wasn't bitching. I was merely clarifying because most lawyers truly are scumbags with no conscience whom care only about the contents of their wallet. ;)

honestly dude i wouldnt mind doing the job but if thats all you have to put towards that job i wont do it. and i dont care what brandon says, my whole life people say to me your time is worth money, you never charge enough, they are right i dont. the job isnt hard, i can drop the k member, i can change the oil pan gasket, i can change the adapter gasket, no problem, but when you asked me to do that and you want it back the same day so you can go to the track the next day lmfao your nuts. if fixing the car is important to you, and making sure the car is safe for your son to be in, then get it fixed and get the track off your mind, take the time to fix the car right, not rush so you can go beat the piss out of it! i charge 200 dollars to change a blend door, and that takes me 90 minutes, so for me to do that for you for 200 no way, i love helping people out i am not here to make a living off this, but i also like to be realistic, i have 2 marks coming for repairs this weekend, one is a complete front suspension rebuild, and i have a 2000 bmw m-5 to buff, what do you think will make me more money? i would put the beemer off but you and i would be on different pages!! dont take this personal, i'm not being a dick to you, but you did say you arent sure about certain automotive work, you should be caught up on labor rates some what before you offer money for a job like that, labor rates do not go by how hard or easy a job is, but how long it takes, thats a time consuming job you need done, its not rush saturday and track sunday job!

oil filter adapter is a 200.00 job 140ish labor + oil and coolant

motor mounts are a 200.00 job

oil pan gasket is easily a 200.00 job...or more

you might want to book Mini-Kini's flight

You want it back the same day so you can go to the track the next day lmfao your nuts.
its not rush saturday and track sunday job!

i have to agree, a job like this..I'd wanna "drive it a bit" before i rushed off to the dragstrip.

straight outta my ford crash estimator database book.
Lincoln Mark VIII 93-98
R&R Engine Cradle 5 hrs
R&R Oil Pan/Gasket 3.8 hrs
R&R Engine Mount 2.5 hrs Each Side

just to give you an idea what ford would charge or comparible auto repair shop. the average repair shop is $80 too $100 an hour, so call it $80 that would cost you around $904 in labor alone!!!!

Yeah I'm about to do my k member, cooling gasket, oil pan gasket, power steering hose, struts and shocks starting tomorrow.. If you watch my thread there will be a nice write-up on all of it to include needed tools.... Stay Tuned :-)

Jamie I don't take it personal at all and wouldn't hold it against you. I asked you and you said you were busy, so I posted here to see if anyone else lived in the area that was able to help out. People have their own lives to live and I could never hold that against them.

As mentioned in another thread although those things are wrong I think it may be the driveshaft that's causing the bulk of the problem. So it may not be as bad as I thought (although that stuff still needs to get done).

Family will be down for the next few weeks, but after that KK might be getting a roundtrip ticket to florida sometime soon ;)

Dude, if you're just doing motor mounts, and oil pan gasket, just drop the craddle and do it yourself.... I know first thing you'll need is a motor brace, you can rent one for around $100 ( If you can find one) or you can build your own like I did, you'll need a 5ft10 long piece of 3/16 gauge tube and about 8 feet of (minimum 1000lb working load) chain or a 2in strap , any pipe and steel company will have the tube for around 10 bucks and the chain will run you 10-20, I got the coated kind so it won't rust. Grab a few bolts to secure the chain around the tube, use washers for added safety
this tool should run you about $40, a couple of short pieces of 2x4 for feet and waalaa... You saved yourself $260 on a tool you can use again if needed
then remove your alternator and secure the bottom of the chain to the alternator bolts
wrap your chain around the tube twice and secure top and bottom ( like in my pic)
you really can do this yourself...as long as you can swap a light buld...righty tighty, lefty loosey....
I have no prob doing a phone walk thru with you.. I will begin mine tomorrow at about 7pm, and I expect to be done sometime on Saturday
feel free to call or txt me ( I'm AT&T ) 254-228-3453

Thanks Sapper I may just do that. I'm just petrified because

#1 last time I had the car on jackstands they sunk into the pavement a good 1 1/2" so I'm scared to go under it if it's going to sink.

#2 If I screw up I'm screwed because it's my only car and it would need to be done on a weekend so I'll have it by Monday.

#3 I don't even know where the motor mounts are let alone how to do them.

I'm seriously considering taking you up on your offer of walkthrough advice though because it would allow me to have leftover money to put into the car if those things don't eliminate my vibrations.

Buy yourself some 2x8 or 2x10 lumber (whatever gives you the best fit for your jackstands) and put the jackstands on them to spread the load over the driveway.

I use wooden tire ramps for my car (cuz, like, I'm really cheap) and they work as good as metal. Better, because you just cannot compress wood. :)

The engine support bar is $59.95 at harbor Freight. You might be able to rent one from Autozone.

Thanks marked8...I wouldn't have even thought of harbor freight. I'm going to the gym in an hour and they are right next door so I'll stop in and look.

Harbor Freight is awesome!

I'd spend all day there if I could.

Just dont buy too much stuff from there!!! lol The engine hoist i bought is working good and held up a 4.6 DOHC, but 99% of the hand and power tools are pure junk with the exception of the hammers and a few other tools.
