Who wants money?

I'd also like to mention I was told you have to drop the k member somewhat to get the motor mounts done. I was told the same for the oil pan. So if I need to drop the k memeber anyway to do the mounts why wouldn't I fix the leaking oil pan gasket?

Exactly!

For the motor mounts you only have to loosen, and lower the Kmember.
To do the oil pan the K member needs to be REMOVED from the car
BIG difference..labor and timewise.

There's an old joke....

Labor Rates:

25/hr.

50/hr. (if you want to watch)

75/hr. (if you want to help)

Good idea to change the pan gasket while you're under there, I'd change the oil filter housing gasket as well.

And, I also agree, that it's a job better left to someone with the right tools, equipment, and experience.

You forgot

150.00 per hour if you worked on it before bringing it in.

LOL ^^^ Thats the truth....only good thing from something like that is all the free tools you will find that were left or dropped under the hood!!

8mm socket... We had many a good time together, you and I and now you are lost into the empty void known as the Mark VIII engine bay. May you wrench in piece.

The funny thing is if you were local I'd prolly still do it for $200...

Thanks...I wish you were closer:)

Again XLR it was mentioned earlier...or at least alluded to that it's not a big deal and not hard by any means according to you. So how has that changed to it's a BIG difference labor and timewise? Below is your own quote for my thread about oil pan gaskets about a year ago.

dropping the K member is the preferred/easiest method for sure.

Do not fear dropping/lowering the Kmember, it's not as hard, nor as scary as it may seem.

Here's the thread in case you want to see it in it's entirety
http://www.lincolnvscadillac.com/showthread.php?t=53840

So with something everyone kept saying is not a big deal, and is quite easy to do, seems to be a whole different story when a price tag is put on it?

Well it's not a hard job, as mentioned in that thread and in this thread.

BUT.. it IS time consuming.

People were giving you moral support, they were not saying they would do it for a price that "YOU DECIDED" was fair.

Well you have to expect when people Spoonfeed you, and tell you how easy it is...then you decide you want to "PAY" someone to do it...there's a "lazy" fee that goes ontop of the regular price, so they can recoup some of the time they spend "spoonfeeding you".

Call it the lazy or spoonfeeding fee.

So being unsure of doing something and looking for guidance is spoonfeeding? I'm assuming you were born with your automotive knowledge and never had to ask any questions or for any guidance in your life? :D

It's not that I "decided" what was fair. I'm a student in college and trying to raise a family. I'm not exactly floating in the cash right now. As I mentioned earlier which you apparently passed over, usually people are always helping people with installs on here for nothing more than beer and food. I thought with a job such food and beer wasn't sufficient, so I was offering all that I had. I guess that makes me lazy, cheap, and self centered too right? ;)

Another thing just an fyi...we do have a function called multi-quote. Here let me spoonfeed you a bit on this one since you are to "lazy" to figure it out...you click on that button that has the parenthesis on it to the right of the quote button. Once you click on all of the posts you want to multi-quote you click the quote button on the last post your are quoting and it brings you to a screen with all of the posts you want to quote.

I hope you remembered your bib for that spoonfeeding session :p;)

There is also an "argumentative fee" as well....

no I wasn't born with a wrench in my hand, I paid my dues...

many years of turning wrenches and I never had the benefit of a message board full of people that would spoonfeed me the answers to the questions I had.

I had a few old school mechanics that I could talk to..

BUT.. once I asked them "how to do something" I NEVER went back to them and asked them to "DO IT FOR ME".

There is an easy solution to this. Take the $200 and fly KK down to Florida. He gets to stay with you for free for a few days in Sunny Florida for a working vacation and you get your car fixed.

When I did the Kooks headers, motor mounts, oil pan gasket, oil filter relocation, ADDCO sway bar, etc., I lowered the K-Member enough to get to all of it easily.

It wasn't necessary to disconnect any of the power steering lines, so I don't consider that as removing the K-Member from the car.

It isn't difficult, IF you have the right tools, but it does seem to take forever.

I've done it both ways:

On my SC, in my driveway, on jack stands, on my back, using an engine hoist to support the engine (which BTW, means that the engine hoist legs are under the car with you and in the way )....

... and on the LSC, in my garage, on my lift, with an OTC Stinger engine support bar. ;)

MUCH easier the last time.

You drive up here, bring $200, and we'll do it together. When we're done, I'll bet that your conscience will make you fork over another couple of bills.

p.s. Plan on spending the weekend.

well put, but remember.. he's going to school to be a lawyer.
by this point in his education process his conscience has been disabled/deleted.
