What did you do to your LS today?

Be sure it's all the way forward in PARK, foot on brake ... try again. Only the V6 5-sp standard featured a steering ignition lock.

Key tumbler might be getting stiff from being on Vacation so long. <shrugs> ... maybe give it a shot of WD-40

Yes, the answer is "no, there is no connection."

This is certainly true of many cars, as a lot of them have (or had) mechanical steering wheel locks. The LS (both generations) has no steering wheel lock at all.

Thanks joegr, good to see you still around here sharing LS knowledge.

Thanks I'll try that!

Doing alright, hope all is well with you. I was actually down at Bainbridge GA few weeks back, figured I was somewhat close to ya.
Put the Trucking gig on hold, now stay-at-home homeowner w/ huge to-do list. Taking it easy for the summer. Mostly BBQ'ing.

I attempted to change the transmission solenoid and fluid swap the other day. I tried to get the connector on the solenoid for almost 2 hours before giving up. My hands are cut to sh!t and I feel defeated. No combination of wrenches and swivel sockets could help me as I was laying on my back. Maybe with a lift it would have been easier, but the fact that a member in the past cut a hole in his interior trans tunnel to access it says everything.

But I guess I will be taking my LS to the dealer for the first time ever.

I didn't do anything to my LS today. But if this post is legit I'll be buying a spare parts car tomorrow!

$871 for a running Gen1 2000 LINCOLN LS

I tried the WD40 to no avail, then remembered reading somewhere that tapping the key with a screwdriver while you turn it might work. Well, that did work! a couple of taps and a fuel pump later and my girl came back to life after a 3 year nap.

The car wont start without the screwdriver trick, so now I'm like Biff from back to the future "nobody knows how to start this car but me" lol

I changed out the VCT seals. It was getting a bit messy and I would occasionally get a whiff of burning oil. $30 at the dealership. Pretty simple switch in and out. What made it the most difficult was not wanting to scratch the valve cover black paint. I'll post a picture when I get back into town from business trip.

I guess I don't under stand the point of double 5% tint... hell single 5% coverage front and back in just short of impossible to saee through from the outside while still being a pain in the dick to see through at night, there is no way I'd want to make it 10 times harder to see out of that even that.
Understandable. It's all just personal preference. I had 5% put on about 2 weeks after I got the car (that was about 5 years ago). You just get used to it, plus from angles you can see in which is something I didn't like. Now no one will be seeing in. Lol, and as far as visibility goes, it's just something to get used to. Night is still pretty useless as is with just 1 layer of 5, but day time is the same for me

Had to take the rear seat out to swap the fuel pump (and vacuum up all the rat poop) so I cleaned and conditioned it a bit.

Also had the door panel off to have a go at the window regulator. I'm ashamed to admit that the entire inside of the car looked like this after taking the cover off after 3 yrs.

It can be done with a 10mm ratcheting wrench.

I think maybe if I cut one down like others, perhaps.

I just got it back from Lincoln after having to teach them the transmission fluid level check procedure like three times. Solenoid solved the shift banging. Still an aggressive P -> R shift, but at least there is no more banging 1-2-3-4.

BTW, the dealer charged $500 in labor for the solenoid and full flush. With me providing the parts.

Update to the last post. I drove the car home from the dealer and everything worked fine. I park in a parking garage @ home that has a slight incline to it to leave. Like maybe 20ish degrees. My car slips out of drive going up the incline and I am literally stuck in the garage, this makes me think the fluid still isn't correct. Beyond pissed right now. Lincoln techs are pure trash.

V6 2001 Changed my front lower ball joints. Steering was sloppy, so I checked and the lower balls were trashed after 200k miles. I bought the complete arms off ebay instead of trying to do the ball installation myself. $160 for the pair, nice! So now every thing been replaced up front. Re greased all the joints and now quiet as a cat. First time I did not get the nuts tighten enough, found out when i took a sharp curve. Retighten to spec and I'm good to go!

If you used deutsche parts, keep your torque wrench close cause you'll be in there again soon.

1. Fixed my leaking sunroof drain tube
2. Installed new front calipers and bled the lines
3. scrubbed the carpets (fuck you mice)

I also installed Forscan and plugged it into the old girl. Man, my check engine light must not be working. Sucks as I thought there was nothing wrong with my car :(

Gave the old girl, 2003 LS V8, a good bath and fired her up after sitting for 15 months. Couldn't believe it fired right up and runs really well even with the old fuel. Brakes and transmission are good but she does have issues to deal with. The DCCV went south, no big surprise & new Motorcraft one on the way, ABS light and non-functioning parking brake. I'll pull the wheels, clean & lube all the mechanical bits, pull all the electrical connectors and give them a proper clean. It's August in Florida so getting the A/C sorted is priority one. It's just good to be driving her again.
