has anyone ever put round component speakers in the 6x8 holes? i am thinking of putting like 6 3/4 mids in the doors and rear, i want to go with infinity's, and then use the infinity tweeters in the stock locations front and rear. anyone ever put rounds in the place of the 6x8's. i can use some thin Luan wood to make panels for the doors to cover the 6x8 hole and fit the 6 3/4's better. any suggestions i just hate speakers that are not round!

I used a Apline 6 3/4 kit in my doors. Wasnt anything fancy just had to spin the speaker around so that you could get mounting screws in metal. I also reused the factory tweater location, just hollowed out the box they were in and made the new one fit.

Just make your own 4X8 speaker adapter plate. Just trace the 4X8 hole on paper, and transfer it to a 1/4" ply wood. Then cut the whole to match your 6.5" speaker.

My Mark has Boston 6.75" components in it like that. I bought a set of 6x8 adapters from the local stereo shop for $8. They are made of thick ABS plastic and work perfect. I used a 1/4" foam tape on the back side where the adapter touches the door so it wont vibrate. Works excellent.

Now if you dont have the Infinitys yet they make both a Kappa and Refrence series 6x8 component system too that has more bass then the 6.5s or 6.75s unless you were gonna run Kappa Perfects but they will need an amp.

I use Alpine 6.5" components that came with their own adapter to be placed in a ford 6"x8" hole. They sound great too; worth checking out, IMO. Alpine SPX-17REF.

I have used the Infinity Reference Series 6"x8" components before in my Mark and was disappointed...

It will work fine jamie I have done this in tons of cars. By the way I have 8 6.75s in my toyota work truck. They will sound great. I perfer the Pioneer REV series tho. Just my 2 cents.:D

well thanks for letting me know about the adapters for the 6x8 holes thats what i will do too. i am not set on infinity yet, but i love the way they sound, the amp that will be on all the inside speakers is an old school kicker impulse thats about the width of the trunk lol, its a 6 channel, 4 will drive the speakers inside, the other 2 channels are gonna be running 3 ten inch JL's

I have 6.5" rounds in mine 94 and going to do the same to my 93.

They have adapter plates that you can use to mount the speakers also .. I need to do a frogman search to find them again.

Thats not what you need. Those are the 6x9 adapters. These are the ones I am running.... little cheaper then I paid too :(

Now if you have the cash, get these. You will be happy with the amp you have.

If you are set on Infinity (also an excellent brand) then get these:
