This is what happens when you go to the bank to get some cash for the weekend with a blower on your car. It happened while turning into the bank driveway. Poetic justice.

Ouch Mike, that really sux. Dangers of running that much boost. I was so worried about running 17psi cause I knew the motors internals (not a problem for you obviously) couldnt handle it but I was really worried about the ACC drive. That much tension is murder on everything. Wish we had the multiple idler positions on our timing covers like the Cobras do.



The problem is you must have said something nice about the car when the car was in ear shot. :lol: If I say "The car is great" or "Yeah, I am happy with it" and the car can hear me, it then breaks something right away. I call it bad names and ignore a compliment and the thing runs tip freakin top! :lol: :mad:
 
Mike, blame it on Aric. He didn't tighten the bolt tight enough. :p I hate to see that happened but..... it looks like it might be a simple inexpensive fix, sorta. I know within 2 days, you'll be back up and running with a detailed description of what happened. Something like that ain't holding you down.
 
lol Actually, I was bitchin about the car because my $1200 cooling fan mod blows, and did not fix the coolant temps with the a/c on.
 
Mike, I wouldn't be surprised if the alt needs to be replaced now too. Looks like the idler rubbed against it for a bit and prolly shot many metal shavings inside it. :(

Looks like it ripped right through the blowers mount and then got pretty hot. That looks like a weld on the pulley to the broken housing. Not sure how that happened or if its just a chunk of weld laying there that was ripped off something else.....


Well your misfortune caused me to go check the noise I have been experiencing. Was the sound of bearing failure and was defiantly coming from my tensioner. Turns out the tensioner was starting to come apart and was flexing outward causing too much tension on the pulley bearing. Fortunately I had an extra tensioner so I just slapped it on. I would hate to be driving down the road and have that kind of failure.


Sorry to hear about the on going cooling issues. I am not sure what to recommend. I can run all day in 110* weather with the AC on and not have any issues. The only thing I can think of is the Mustang water pump you have. My thoughts is that they are designed to flow more at high RPMs and that may be an issue with the tight engine bay.
 
I think Jeb was talking about cooling issues too. I believe he is going to meth kit to help solve the problem.
 
Dam that some thing you don't want to happening while driving. That doesn't look like its will be a pain to fix in that parking lot. I just starting getting clear coat peel on my trunk something I wasn't expecting.

What the hell happened?
 
dam mike i hope the damage is worse looking than it physically is. that sucks bad, i'm sure you'll have her all spruced up quickly though, good luck dude. keep us posted.

who has a s/c mark
He went another way and i think that his stay cool now
If you want I can ask what radiator and fan he used and take some pics for you
 
Thanks, Guys. It will get put back together. But, I really need to get to the bottom of why the car has had the idler pulley go bad and replaced just about every year. This is getting a little ridiculous if you ask me. The one that is in the picture was put on the car this past January, according to Ryan.

Ryan has a call in to Vortech, to see what they will do about the defective parts. The head unit bracket is junk, and obviously the idler pulley. I think I stopped the motor in time to save the oil line from being ripped apart by the serp belt.

Have to wait and see if there is any more damage. It looks worse than what it is, I hope


Here is a picture of the bracket and pulley. About $275 for both parts from superchargers online.

Mike, what kind of tensioner do you have? If its a stock one then maybe the constant shock of the belt from the tensioner flexing is whats killing the bearings on that idler or cracking the housing.

god awful expensive, but i don't have any belt slippage issues anymore either....so problem solved. I did see they have come down considerably on Lonnie's website. He started carrying them after he saw mine.

I found a 15% off code too but I still cant drop $347 on one right now. I thought I was having a pulley issue by it turns out I have a belt slipage issue when not hot. I lose about .8 psi of boost. :(
 
Stopped by the shop, and spoke with Ryan with IE to see how he did with his Vortech rep. He did very well. Vortech has stepped up to the plate, and is shipping all the parts needed on Monday, to get The Mark back on the road - No Charge!

Injected Engineering also stepped up to the plate and will do the work at a reduced labor rate! :) :)

My hat is off to Vortech, and Injected Engineering for making this right!

Not many companies out there willing to keep their customers happy. They restored that belief with me today that they are stand-up companies, willing to help a old man fall in love with his hobby again.
 
You must have the patience of a saint... I know if I had as much money in my car I would be IRATE with issues like these...

wen I ordered my parts from vortechthey told me there was an updated idler pulley thats the one they sold me maybe you had the old one or something
 
Good to see places step up to the plate like that and help out, hopefully it'll be back on the road in no time :)
