SCT Xcal2 Vs Xcal3

+1
ILLS is good people, he's always trying to help folks around here.

I always say "support those that support you".
ILLS wastes alot of time posting over here, so since he supports our community as a whole.. I tend to send my business to those types of vendors. Hell even if they aren't the lowest price on the block.

With that said.. I've yet to buy anything from ILLS, I have no ties to his company or his business.. I only know him from his posts here on LVC.

IF i needed anything SCT related, he'd dang sure get my "nod of approval".

I do have one of his tunes... and have been slowly working on a turbo setup for the LS.... if he was the most expensive in the world, I'd go to him just for the customer service...... second to none!!!!

If you look at the picture, it clearly states its not "stock", not "unlocked".
you can push that button til your blue in the face.. it's not gonna unlock it.

As mentioned before, the previous vehicle HAS to be "returned to stock" before THAT particular "unlock" button will be of any use to you.

sorry to say.

and if you click that "erase device" button..

WALA.. you now have a paperweight...because when you plug it in it will say "no index file" found.

Go search SCT's forums for "no index file found" and you'll quickly see that it's now a paperweight that needs to be sent back to SCT.

DONT PUSH THAT BUTTON!!!

frasch, where do you live?

The Galaxy of This Sucks Camel Dicks! doest give much useful info
haha

Yeah i read that somewhere on the SCT site and again i think you said it earlier in the topic...but what if i erase the old tunes that are on the device then click unlock?? I live in Norfolk,Nebraska..not the galaxy of this sucks camel dicks...

BTW the guy put all the codes and passwords on the manual such as the config code...? dont know if that matters or not

ILLS, or any other dealer,

Is the live wire available for the LS and is it any diffenent then the Xcal? other than the obvious. Is the live wire worth the extras for any car not just the LS? Whats your recommendation

I use the LiveWire -
thread - > http://www.lincolnvscadillac.com/showpost.php?p=282436&postcount=678
video - > http://www.youtube.com/user/QuikLS

I wired my wideband and MAP into it - so those reading are part of the combined datalogging.

As Tom says - I have not got the Livewire to actually upload tunes to the LS yet. I still us my XCal2 for that. I just need to get off my butt and call SCT to work through it with them....

erasing the tune files
1. has no impact on the lock
2. only removes the tune files in slots 1-3 and doesnt affect the stock image that is left on the device, which is what makes #1 relevant.

In my years of SCT tuning, I've never heard of a "config code" unless your talking about a "datalog.cfg" which has no bearing on the security on the device.

Any other code would be an "individuals" RACER CODE which is useless except to the original purchaser.
there is no "password" for Xcals or ANY of the SCT software, unless that is his password for the "pro racer forum" on SCT's site..again useless information..
BUT..thanks for adding extra details.. you never know what IS or isn't "useful".

i have to take a picture of it and put it on here.. its part of the cover sheet... it has the first blank for that code then the 3 tunes settings..

so im trying to learn here.... i dont see what your talking about. I know the unloc button.... but not the part where it says its stock.

unluss your talking about under "add file" where it says something about the state locked custom

Where is says "prog:custom".. would say "stock" or "unused" if depending if the previous vehicle were returned to stock.. or "unused" if it haddn't been used.
The next to it says "status:"LOCKED"

If it says "stock" then that particular unlock button would work.
If it said "unused" then the unlock button would be irrelevant.

If I had more time..I'd unlock my Xcal and take a pic of that screen.

when unlocked they say "stock" or "unused" and "UNLOCKED".

unused would be for brand new devices from what I gather. And knowing that locked and custom dont equal being able to unlock it.... Id say the man is correct and I learned a little more about the subject of Liveload

Thanks BTW

ok just got home and tried pressing the unlock device button and its a no go.. but if u go to device and select change to stock it says low voltage so does anyone know how high the voltage has to be on the plug in??

the "return to stock" function will only work when plugged into the previous vehicles obd2 port.

the usb voltage supplied thru the cable is only enough to power up the unit and it's internal PC board.

Trust me Frasch, your at the end of the road.. if you increase the usb voltage thru that cable your going to fry the device.

not 100% but i've heard the livewire cant load programs on the ls..... but the livewire is typically used for real time data aqu. and display. I'll be using a live wire for my car, but thats to display boost and wideband

I used a Livewire for my Gen2 LS and loaded tunes onto the car with it just fine. Never had one problem with that. I never have loaded a tune onto a Gen1 with a Livewire but it would be strange to not have it work on those too. Hmmm.

I think that for what I use it for the Livewire is a great piece of equipment. I log the heck out of vehicles and sometimes don't like to have a laptop along for the ride. When I had the TurboLS I had the livewire hooked up so that it would log the normal PID's as well as log AFR's from the wideband and log boost from the GM 3 bar MAP that I had installed. In most cases a Livewire will be overkill for most people. I like these units but they have allot of extra bells and whistles that most will not use, but still pay for. The regular Xcal devices fit the bill better for the average user. Hope this helps.

You Cannot Unlock that Xcal.... period
