I am replacing my IMRC controller, I have to the two bolts on top out. Does anyone have any secrets to getting to the two on the bottom?

What four bolts?

There are three nuts that hold the controller to the bracket and three bolts that hold the bracket to the head.

Do I have to take the whole bracket off to get the controller off? It seems as though I do. I am trying to get to the bolt at the lowest point, but the egr tube is in the way.

No, you can just remove the three 10mm (I think) nuts that hold the controller to the bracket. And you don't have to completely remove the bottom two nuts, the controller bracket is slotted, just loosen them a bit. Remove the top nut completely and slide the controller up.

With that being said, I just have to figure out how to finagle down to those bottom nuts. The top one however looks like it's in from behind.

Huh? Behind what? It's a stud and a nut!

Just take off the damn top nut with a 1/4" ratchet and socket. And loosen the bottom two nuts. Then tilt the top of the controller off of the stud and pull it up.

I've given you a bunch of great advice, with pictures no less, just do it.

I appreciated all the advice. I really do, but my controller is clearly different than the one you have pictured. I was able to remove the two 10mm nuts on the bottom, and it is clearly still secured.

Did you also remove the top nut?

There are three studs and nuts securing the controller to the bracket, and only three.

If someone has replaced the controller before, then it may not have the slots on the bottom two holes (if it was a Cobra controller), but you should still be able to push the controller to the rear of the car and remove it from the bracket.

Once you finally do get it off, be sure to post some pictures of the controller.

It's the same - It looks like you might be trying to remove the entire bracket.

The stud in the foreground in this shot had a nut on it right? If you got the bottom two off, then the controller is ready to come off. The smaller bracket (attached to the controller) is likely stuck to the big bracket. Time for some improper use of a screwdriver and hammer.

Pay no attention to the bolt in the diagram. It holds the smaller bracket to the actuator box and can't be seen yet. It's not the one in your pic.

What you guys don't see, is that the stud in the foreground, as well as the two studs at the bottom are also threaded in. It looks as though the three 10mm nuts are for over protection. I have to take the bracket completely off so I can get the bolts off from the rear. I've got all the bolts off but one. That one is is behind the EGR tube, and i can't get to it. I am going to have to remove the EGR.

That's not a nut right there on the closest stud? Can't be seen easily because the lip is in the way.

If that was a bolt, you'd be able to see the bolt head between the bracket and the cylinder head. I'm telling you, you just need to pry the two brackets apart.

Some more reference pics...

You shut your stupid advice right this instant! You don't pry that bracket apart...omg

Not the bracket in my picture, fool. :D I'm talking about breaking loose the controller's bracket from it. They're likely stuck together. If Greg did indeed remove the two nuts directly below the box and not just the bolt at the bottom of the big bracket, then a gentle tap should separate them.

I'm starting to lose my mind here.

just looking from the outside the two pics posted by dlf (sorry i forgot your name again) the first pic shows the controller mounted to the bracket with two brass looking bolt/nuts holding the bottom on real close to the bottom of the controller, its hard to see if the bracket is slotted there, on the next array of pics he shows the controller by itself with the slotted holes, but they look like the bracket is longer than the first one. it clearly looks like gman has the bracket bolts almost all the way out he just cant get to the bottom, can it be reached from the bottom?it seems your closer to getting the whole assembly off than the controller, i would try to get the whole shebang off, from the pics it looks like you only have one left, i just dont know how to reach it either, but it looks like two different controller boxes, but even if you got the bottom bolts loose it should wiggle a little, 14 years of heat and weather may have gotten them really stuck together, you might have to smack a wedge in there to separate them.

You give instruction to pry a bracket apart, one would think you'd post of said bracket and not the other one...lol

But yeah these could be slightly stuck together..

Greg, loosen those 2 nuts that the wire is looped between, remove the one from its upper corner..lift
