Removing IMRC Controller

There's a controller on a bracket on another bracket. It gets hard to describe. That, and I didn't have a picture of the controller mounted on the bracket, other than the parts diagram I linked to. My picture was to show that the "bolt" was actually a stud and couldn't be removed from the back side.

Sorry for the confusion. ;)

I can't wait until you get it apart and finally realize what's going on. :D

The three studs DO NOT thread into the small bracket that the controller is mounted on.

The small controller bracket is just likely rusted to the larger bracket.

If you've removed the three 10mm nuts, then just pry the small bracket with the rounded lip away from the larger bracket.

You're going to feel pretty silly once you get it off.

Well, I will be the first to admit if it was rust just holding these two pieces together, and all I had to do is pry. I'm here to tell you, this isn't the case. The two brackets are stuck tighter than a gnat's a$$ because there are two more bolts on the back side. I guess I can use a pry bar and push it forward enough to get to those.

Those two bolts simply hold the controller to the smaller bracket.

THERE IS NO REASON TO TOUCH THEM!

Just remove the controller and the smaller bracket with the rolled lip from the large bracket after removing the three 10mm nuts. They seperate along the red line that I added to your picture.

You want to remove the entire assembly as shown in the picture I attached above in post #7.

This is painful to watch..
Pull the motor, it'll be easier and you could have been done by now.

That looks oddly familiar.

This thread wins the SFOTM award, hands down! :D

I was blinded by my own rage. The top nut was so far in under the lip, it looked like it was already off, when in reality it wasn't. Sapperfire opened my eyes.

Sapperfire!

How many times did I tell you to take off that damn nut?

1.
No, you can just remove the three 10mm (I think) nuts that hold the controller to the bracket. And you don't have to completely remove the bottom two nuts, the controller bracket is slotted, just loosen them a bit. Remove the top nut completely and slide the controller up.

2.
Huh? Behind what? It's a stud and a nut!

Just take off the damn top nut with a 1/4" ratchet and socket. And loosen the bottom two nuts. Then tilt the top of the controller off of the stud and pull it up.

I've given you a bunch of great advice, with pictures no less, just do it.

3.
Did you also remove the top nut?

There are three studs and nuts securing the controller to the bracket, and only three.

If someone has replaced the controller before, then it may not have the slots on the bottom two holes (if it was a Cobra controller), but you should still be able to push the controller to the rear of the car and remove it from the bracket.

Once you finally do get it off, be sure to post some pictures of the controller.

None of these opened Greg's eyes lol. :D Sapper, you're the man!

50+ hours to remove an IMRC controller has got to be some kind of record!

Well done!

And, you're welcome.

This is why I said he could have had the motor out.
That being said.. it happens to the best of us. I've had days like Gman also.

I don't have days like that very often. I've done a lot do complicated stuff with my car, and what seems like the simplest tasks trip me up from time to time..
