I bought 1998 LSC Blk on Blk with a little over 100K Mon. I'm going to pick it up Thur. I have a 1997 Parts car with a good front end. I'll have to wait till I see it before I decide what I'm going to do with it. Any thoughts>

Nice one Don looks like all you need is to replace the hood & header panel, fairly easy swap!

Doesn't look like the hood is damaged, just a header panel and maybe a fender... I'd flip it, IMO.

Dibs on driver door panel and back seat upper and LSC floor mats, and neon ballast,
Shifter knob (if like new),and rim center caps.

I left Fayetteville NC Thursday morning in my brothers dually with a trailier to go to Co Parts in Atlanta East. A little over half way there I noticed I was leaking transmission fluid. The leak kept getting worse. I ended up putting in 9 quarts to make it to Co Parts and the transmission was slipping by then. I got there 4 mins. after 5:00 so they charged me 60 dollars extra for after hours. I ended up paying 1,400.00 to have the Truck Car and trailier towed back to Fayetteville. So I won the car for 650.00 + 350 to Co Parts + 150.00 in fuel + 1,400.00 for the tow = 2,550.00 . Its nice but not near that nice. My plan was for 300.00 in fuel so the total would have been 1,300.00 . I would have been very very happy with it for that. Its nice enough that I'm going to fix it.

That interior looks nice. Don, try not to put too much into it if you're planning to sell it. It may not bring much. Or you planning to add it to the corral?

Sounds like you're already into it more than it's worth.. Airbags are deployed = totaled

deployed airbags does not total a car unless its claimed through insurance. i have bought marks with deployed bags that still had perfectly clear titles. totalled on the count of deployed air bags is a very big misconception. don is the title clear or salvage, chances are its a salvage if they sent it through copart, but so what, salvage doesnt mean squat. some of you guys could be driving hurricane katrina flood cars and dont even know it. i say fix it and drive it as a daily screw it.

Though true to an extent airbags dont total all cars, in this case the cost or the airbags control module, seat belts, sensor, reset fees do outweigh the value of the car. Whether the car will jave a salvage title depends on the state its titled in, ny and nj cars get a salvage title 8 model years and newer. Nh is 15 model years and newer while florida is strickly based on acv.......just to clear this up as I am licensed in 3 or those 4 states.

All the parts to get this car up and going are very cheap. There are lots of resources to choose from to get airbag modules and airbags. Seatbelts as well if it is needed, but I don't think so.

Depending on your states guidelines. Most state require new airbags/components. However if the title is not branded and and the car is not subject to dmv inspection then you can put whatever you want in. last oem price.for a set of airbags for a mark8 were almost 2k if I remember correctly(been awhile since I wrote a mark8)

Mark VIII airbags are about $100 for the set.

i got a black airbag sitting in my parts bucket, ;) interior looks real nice too, good find

Thank you all very much. The interior is very very nice. I,m thinking of starting a progress thread on this one because I could use some help in doing and deciding what to do with this one.

I'm sorry to hear the bad news. There's no sense in flipping(if that was part of the plan) it now so i'd fix it at your leisuer and drive it. Looks really clean inside though.gj

greg you arent listening to what he is saying. if you have full coverage on your mark, and you wreck it, the insurance company will estimate the damage based off what ford, lincoln, mercury gives them for prices to replace the parts, you cant tell the insurance company, oh hey i know there is a mark in the junk yard with good bags for 100 bucks, they dont care, they wont let you use salvage parts. the only way you can fix a car like the one don bought with parts that you buy yourself, is if the car does not get totalled by the insurance company. like my 98 that i crashed a few years ago, i had minimum coverage insurance, no collision so i never claimed a crash with my insurance, which meant i was on my own to repair it, which meant i could use any parts i want, but when you have to deal with your insurance company after a crash, they get oem parts new, so you are s.o.l as far as getting cheap parts.
