So as everyone knows and has tried to help, the car has tons of stupid issues. Well along with the weired steering issue (which I just bought a rack to fix) and the erratic suspension, along with the constant miss and IMRC CEL that keeps coming on (which I just bought a used IMRC for to fix). I've got a whole new world of :q:q:q:q!

I get in my car from the gym and notice the "RIGHT DOOR AJAR" message comes on. I try multiple times to shut it but it wouldn't shut off. The lights in the interior shut off meaning the door was shut, but the computer thought it was still open. So then the auto down window switch stopped working. Then I'm driving and hammer on it out of a parking lot and notice the car was doing something weird around 4k RPM's. Then a few minutes later the low coolant light comes on. I shut it down.

Start the car up and drive a few minutes and hit system check and it says coolant level ok. WTF?!

I'm starting to understand why the previous owner parted with this car. If only I didn't have 8k into it so far

Door ajar: Search. You just need to spray some WD-40 on it. I did it in 2002 and it hasn't happened since.

The coolant level could be a combo of 2 things. First when you nail it, the engine draws in coolant. Then the coolant sloshes to the back of the tank. If you are a little low you might have this issue. Remember, Jamie put a new motor in and you might just need to burp some air out of the system. This is normal whenever new coolant is put in.

Another thing you might consider is to get a cheap beater car. I have that Geo Prizm which allows me to work out all of my issues and still get to work. 13 year old cars have issues and yours has been through a lot. You'll get it.

Are you sure it's not an electrical thing though like a short somewhere or a bad sensor, or bad ground/power? My car has been doing erratic electrical things ever since that crappy tune was sent to me and the car went past 7k RPM's, flashed and fried the battery and alternator. I since have replaced the battery and alternator, and even am trying a different computer now, but the problems are still there.

I will try out your advice though, just in case. Thanks :)

I can believe you have been on here this long and still dont know anything.

Way to try and rip on me and fail in the process. I believe you meant "can'T"

To answer your statement I've got two things to say...

1. I don't know a ton because there's always a dick that has to start :q:q:q:q with me and turn my threads into crap...rather than keep their garbage comments to themselves.

2. I've had so many f'n problems with my car it's kind of hard to remember all of the solutions. As I mentioned earlier this week I have a total of $8k into this car since I bought it in may for $3300...so I've gone through a lot.

Beyond that can anyone that doesn't have something productive to add please stfu and move on?

Hope this helps, but sometimes on my 96 when i shut her down and close the door the radio and lights will be on etc. I tryed the WD-40 trick but what i have to do is push in that little button on the body of the car at the door jam and turn it while it's pressed in...then everything shuts off.

hmmm....I'm going to go look for that now.

The low coolant message can be as simple as the way the car is parked when started. I have had it happen on all 23 of the Mark VIII's I have owned. The door ajar message is a simple fix as stated before. I would also agree with the beater car. If I had to drive my Mark daily I would probably pull my hair out.

lol wow. good luck.

Ahh, I wasn't aware of the electrical problems. Anything's possible, but the door ajar and the low coolant are both common problems with simple solutions, so try those first and get back to us.

I've done the WD-40 fix on my door ajar warning a couple of times on my '96. Also, another thing I've noticed is that the little float in the coolant tank appears to be designed to float if the coolant to water ratio is high enough. I had too much water in my coolant at one time and the float sank to the bottom. I was getting the low coolant warning even though the coolant tank was full. I drained the coolant and added antifreeze and the float came up and the warning went away. Just a suggestion.

my coolant light comes on from time to time. it fixes itself shortly thereafter. The door ajar light i'm super suprised you didnt know that. wd-40 it. open and close the door multiple times to get it to go away. might take acouple days of use for it to work in the mechanism. soak it.

You have 4500 in that thing...dam!! I only have 1500 as it sits including the wheels, maint, stereo, lowered kit ect..

Hey,
Did you visually check the coolant? Start there.

You say the interior lights were on, you shut the door, and the lights went off but the door ajar light stays on? That is odd...

this is another reason why i dont want to put a rack in the car derek, with allllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll the problems you have, and even more by the hour, why bother! what is the rack gonna solve if the rest of the car is an abortion gone bad? usually when someone fixes a car, they find another problem, with your car, when you mention fixing a current problem, you have 30 more before you even fix one! i cant see charging you to put a rack in a car that needs a whole :q:q:q:q heap more work than a steering rack.

Yeah the car is a money pit for me.

Yeah, my thoughts too. But yeah when the door shut the lights all dimmed like they are supposed too, and the monitor said "Right Door Ajar". When all the other electrical things started happening I was really starting to wonder if there is a short or something somewhere.

My door ajar light stayed on even though the lights dimmed with my 96. Took a few tries with WD40 to fix it.
If you get a beater it will not stress you out as much to have to fix the Mark as it can sit until you can get around to it. Did you download that CD yet?

Because I still need to drive it Jamie and I don't have any other money. What am I supposed to do sell the car for $3k (if I'm lucky) and end up with another $3k car that has problems?

It's got to get to a point where it actually works. This car has had soooo much done to it, it's got to work sometime.

I need to get the car in order for my trip up north. If you fix the rack, I fix my IMRC, and the problems still persist...then at least I know the car is not able to be driven up North. If you aren't going to fix it, then let me know so I can make other plans. I'd rather have you do it, than someone else that has no clue what they are doing. But that's not up to me.

Is it insured? (hint, hint, nudge, nudge ;) )

I'd actually lose money :(

No, but I plan on doing so and toying with it when this semester ends. I'm taking three summer courses, I'm a stay at home dad, and I have another kid on the way any day now so as you can imagine I'm super freaking busy. I barely get any time to myself...and the little time I do get it's trying to research what's wrong with my pita car...

On mine the WD-40 didn't work. I took a socket and turned the nut on the plunger about a half a turn back and I have never had a problem since. I wouldn't worry about the low coolant unless it keeps happening. As far a mashing on the gas to leave--My car never likes this unless its warmed up. Its real hesitant if it sits for hours and I try to hot rod it right off the bat. As soon as the temp gauge moves a little its fine.

Mine runs crappier the more she warms up...go figure

I forgot to mention that the "auto down" function stopped working too.

Well anyway I disconnect the battery for 20 minutes and reconnect it and all the electrical issues went away. WTF? Now the window goes down fine, and everything has been better....although the miss is still there, and the steering is still f'd.

You should let Jamie rest man, I know you are worried about someone not knowing what they are doing, but a rack is sorta generic and if you hunt around a bit any good mechanic should be able to do an excellent job on that.

i'm just tired of doing stuff on your car, then you come on here bitching about all the crap thats wrong with it, and nothing i do to the car seems to help, so it makes me feel like i am wasting away my weekends working on your car for nothing, like thats how i want to spend my weekends and continueously working on your car and getting absolutely nowhere with it. i havent had a free minute to myself in years, and this whole thing with people asking me to do :q:q:q:q for them every single god damn weekend is getting really old. i'm tired of being people's " mechanic " when i have a family i'd like to see too, you have a family derek and you get to see them everyday, i am the opposite, i never see mine, there comes a time in life that no one else's problems mean anything to me. i'm not trying to be a dick to you derek but when i did the motor i said i wasnt going to become your " mechanic " and i have to put my foot down, for you, and everyone, i am not a mechanic, i am not an auto repair shop, i am human, and i do have a life, i'm sorry but i do not have the time to drop everything in my life when you have something wrong with the car, your gonna have to have the rack done somewhere else, i'm just tired of my life being filled with everyone else's problems dude.

Dam you know how much :q:q:q:q is wrong with my car?
Its 13 years old for gods sake.
My "auto down" goes a 100 mph....back and forth I go until I get it were I want it.

I am waiting for mine to burst into flames.
I am sure I have too much money into it just like you.

If it starts and gets you were you want to go just drive the :q:q:q:qin thing and STFU

Nobody should own a mark if they cant fix it themselves.

These :q:q:q:qing cars will break your ass.

Sell it and buy something else.
