Nice news & not so nice news

My cover is up in the attic, staying safe. Intake tube is completely shaved but honestly, what is so pretty under the cover to show? When running good, what is under there that you have to get to? I think it looks cleaner with it on because it shows the best looking part, which is the intake. I have had mine off two years and the only reason why was because I was doing some part swaps from the other two Marks I had in the back yard. Just never put it back on.

I see your problem. No battery.

It's just a matter of preference and personal taste. Personally, I like to see my engine. I want to be able to open the hood and see every part of the engine that's visible. On my old '96 I loved the look of the "bundle of snakes" intake. I also loved those HUGE valve covers. I just wanted to see all of the engine. Engine covers bug me. Why doesn't the factory make the engine pretty enough not to need to be covered up?

To Cover or not?

I for one like the cover on and just leave the center intake exposed looks well dressed ant tidy imo.

Agreed!

I think this was attempted when they got rid of the plug wires in 97-98 and it helped a lot but on a Gen 1, I prefer to hide all that wiring and plug wires and just see the intake and the plug wires that are lined up right there in the front in a neat fashion.

I did the 97-98 alt on my 93... once the alt was installed you can't plug it in.... so I plugged it in, then tightened it down. Had to get some slack on the wiring, but that was it.

Well gentlemen as it turns out the rebuilt I recieved last week was a 97-98. They not only lived up to their word but exceeded it. They overnighted me a NEW 93-96 alternator. Check out the pics below.

Notice the middle alternator. That's the "malfunctioning" alternator. It's completely different. Plug's inverted, the housing is different, the bolt holes on the bottom are closed. They may have sent me an alternator for a Crown Vic or some other Ford that requires less amperage.

Look at the rear of the alternators, the original alternator on my 93 has the same black metal brace in the back as the new one.

The odd ball Alt is for a Cobra

meh. looks just like a gen 1 alternator.

the slotted bolt holes ones look just like gen 2 alternators.
the gen 2 alts also have that stamped steel plate on the back. makes it stupid easy to replace voltage regulators.

looks like your car already had a gen 2 alternator in it.

Interesting, so my car's alternator was replaced @ one point for a 2nd Gen alternator... Well, go figure. Only thing I have to say after everything was replaced is that when I turn on my HID's & the a/c together, the voltage drops to 13.5. I did the same thing to my 97 a/c & HID's on & the voltage remains @ 14.0.

How are your terminals looking? I gained a good amount of voltage cleaning the leads and replacing the + and - terminals..

My oem alt read in the lower 13 w/ everything on before I replaced it. Gained .3 volts upgrading the terminals and the end result was 13.8-9(hot) w/ everything on with new alt, about 14.0-1 just running.

13.5 is pretty normal w/ stuff on. Whats it read warm w/ everything off?
