not quite a 1/4

It's 1000', so a difference of 320'.

RT - 1.1655
60' - 2.5300
1/8 ET - 11.1442
1/8 MPH - 64.28
1000' ET - 14.1099
1000' MPH - 75.15

That was my best run so far, over a year and a half ago though. Next spring...Was bone stock (rear seat/door panels removed, empty trunk and barely enough gas to get back to town) Now, new coils, new plugs, cut airbox w/K&N. Maybe I'll take a little more weight out next time too. And I'll have a little more experience too, considering the 5 runs I made that day were my first.

Here's a few runs from tonight with notes that I wrote on the slips..

42 degrees, 3926 pounds, 1k launch in SST mode, hit rev limiter in 2nd and car broke up/jerked in 4th:

60 - 2.259
330 - 6.237
1/8 -9.526
MPH - 75.52
1000 - 12.318
1/4 - 14.696
MPH - 94.03

No temp on slip, car said 43 degrees, SST with 1k launch, jerked a bit in 4th again:

60 - 2.261
330 - 6.215
1/8 - 9.455
MPH - 76.25
1000 - 12.238
1/4 - 14.606
MPH - 94.87

SST mode with 1k launch:

60 - 2.325
330 - 6.848
1/8 - 10.208
MPH - 74.17
1000 - 13.036
1/4 - 15.434
MPH - 93.21

3 cars ahead of me leaked oil on the track, car was the coldest it had been all night and right past the 60' mark, it broke the tire loose like I was in my old '87 and I had to let off. I think they missed an oil spot or two

Why are you using 4th? I hit forth after I see the win light ...in either lane.

Yep. You can run 3rd gear through the traps. Heck, even when I was running 14.2's I wasn't shifting to 4th until juuuuuust getting into the traps. No reason a 14.6 ET LS will need to shift to 4th gear. Stay in 3rd and I am sure your ET's will improve. I ran my best times when I was commanding the shifts to happen right around 6,900-7,000 rpms.

Habit, I guess. So many years with a car with 4.10s'll do that to ya is all I can say. lol Always next time.

I remember many years ago that the way you describe was the recommended way to come off. "Shocking the torque converter" by slamming the pedal to the floor from an idle. I had thought that the improvements since then would have negated this approach, but I am apparently incorrect, so I'll indeed try it once again. I come off smoothly from 1,900, but any higher and I bog. The higher the RPMs, the more pronounced the bog, and at about 2,500-2,600, of course, the motor cuts off with the brake pedal down.

I've heard it called "flashing" the converter. I actually don't take it right off idle, just little gas against the brake not hard. Just touching the gas will jump it up to 1200 or so and I go from there. So I don't know if I'd call it shocking or flashing, just not stalling really either.

I'll have to time it. I'm curious if this method would be quicker or leaving at higher RPMs, as long as there is no bog.

Back from Atco Raceway. Won't be going there again without a drag radial since you CANNOT get around the water box, and lightin' up the tires doesn't help get the water off as you can see by the short times. Still wound up with a better ET and a couple of 97mph passes.

Damn, you got a lot of runs in. Must of not have been a lot of people there? Congrats on getting into the mid 14's!!!!!

I could've had more, but I took a break between the 3rd and 4th runs to let the car cool completely down. Froze my ass off sitting in the car, lemme tell ya lol brentalan had to have had at least 10 runs, if not more. There were maybe 70 cars there, if that.

Thanks :) If I could get this car to 60, it'd be a low 14 second car. Frustrating. lol

Oh, and there's no way I can get through the traps in 3rd. I'm switching to fourth at about the 1000' mark or there about...and that's right about at 6500RPM.

Here's the timeslip. Obviously on the right:

Yep, I did get roughly 10 runs in. Could you raise your shift point slightly with the XCAL to keep it in 3rd? It's so close to the end when you hit 4th.

When still N/A with CAI and SCT tune I pulled a 14.2 while shifting to make the transmission complete at about 6,900-7,000 rpm's. You just got to lean into it a little more with the SST.

I thought 6750 was the limiter. Anyways I have mine at 6900 and have hit 98 with the 3.31s a few times safely. I would guess 7k on the 3.58s. I estimate to hit the 1:1 shortly after the 1/8th now:shifty:.

I forgot to update this a while ago, new best time 14.587 @ 95.19 mph.

Did they change the rear gear ratio for the 06? Everything I have seen is the 06 is 3.58?

Has anyone taken a 06 to the track? I'd like to hit 14.5's with mine, but I dont know if it will be able to run 3rd to the finish line. The online calculators say 3rd is good for 92mph, and I would assume it runs ~ 95-96mph stock, so that would really be pushing it past 6500 rpm.

Your gears are 3.58's.

The 03-06 LS V8's are pretty much the same animal. You will be able to hit 14.5's with simple bolt-ons such as CAI and SCT tune.

When I was still running the 05 LS NA with a few bolt-ons I hit a best of 14.2 and was able to just barely hold 3rd gear till right through the traps. It revs high but nothing too bad for an engine that likes to breath. By the way, to hold it in 3rd through the traps you will of course need a custom tune so that your rev limiter can be raised high enough to allow it. Otherwise you will hit your limiter before the end and have to shift 4th gear.

Hit the 2.0 twice tonite for the 60'. Also a 6.0 for the 330'. And the 6.0 wasn't on either of the 2.0 passes.

Figured some things out tonite so the new bests will be coming.

Hey 02LSE...

We chatted a while back on the LVC chat about launching this car and other drag race techniques. I went up to New England Dragway on Halloween night and drove pretty good- improved on what I wanted to improve on. Being my second time ever racing the car, I’m pretty happy. I did the math and 13.7 is what this car should do with the 100 shot (and otherwise stock- only one NA race and I pulled 15.333 @ 94). I had lower bottle pressure since it was so cold out that night so I’m guessing I had 80-90 hp shot (and 100hp worth of fuel). I also think the nitrous turned off right before the line since it shuts off 200 rpm below redline (set at 6800) so I’ll have to bump those up a little if I plan on holding 3rd over the line (which I verified is faster to do). I was right lane for all runs. Here’s the results...

1st run, car had a lot of time to cool down. amusing enough was a nitrous pasaat next to me who ran a 15.89.
............left........right
R/T.... .189........-.188 (oops)
60' .... 2.819......2.162 (better than my 2.3's)
330.... 7.133......5.887
1/8.....10.546.....9.026
MPH....72.85......79.73
1000...13.434....11.650
1/4.....15.893....13.890
MPH....90.65......99.66 (huh? had 100.8 last time- nitrous off or low psi)

2nd run, a good amount of cool down time. Raced a viper with carbon fiber hood and god knows what else.
...........left.......right
R/T.... .175..... .085 (getting the hang of it)
60' ....2.332......2.106 (almost broke into 2.0!)
330....5.812......5.789 (wow- I'm ahead!)
1/8.....8.574......8.901 (damn, he got traction :p)
MPH....88.65......80.36
1000...10.924....11.517
1/4.....12.903....13.756 (new best time by .04s)
MPH....113.75....99.73 (slower than my best trap of 100.8)

3rd run, no cool down time and colder bottle. Knew my top end would be slow so I tried to nail my launch. This was a race against a pretty modded 93ish Camaro.
...........left........right
R/T.... .196..... .078 (better)
60' ....2.392......2.354 (oops, too aggressive- spun)
330....6.301......6.152 (wow- I'm ahead!)
1/8.....9.238......9.259(damn, he got traction too :p)
MPH....84.65......80.29 (same speed as last run so HP is there)
1000...11.742....11.892 (tried shifting to 4th in case nitrous was turning off in 3rd)
1/4.....13.862....14.171(nope, if it was, that was still slower. my fast run would have beat him)
MPH....106.55....98.16

4th and final run, never turned the car off from last run. This was a “try something different” run. The car seems to pull the hardest in 3rd so I’ll short shift 2nd. Bottle is cold to the touch now. This race was against a pro looking door slammer Chevelle or Camaro, I forget. In other words, I had no chance

...........left........right
R/T.... .279..... .005 (nailed it!!!)
60' ....1.765......2.230 (just a shade slow- gunshy after last run)
330....4.910......6.054 (slow- I spun. I think those are tailights up there)
1/8.....7.517......9.209
MPH....94.28......79.37
1000...9.781....11.861
1/4.....11.704....14.146 (same difference between 1000' as fast run)
MPH....117.20....97.91

Their trap speeds all look fast, either I’m making way more torque than HP, or I’m dieing off at 6800rpm. Still, I’m happy to hit a 13.75 with the slightly weaker nitrous shot. My summer run with the full shot, I got 13.79 and that was with 2 degrees advanced timing and race fuel, but weak nitrous controller setup. This time was 93 pump gas and stock timing, and better tuned nitrous but lower pressure bottle. The extra 30hp with the gen 2's VVT would be nice. Next year, bottle heater, fuel pump, and another 25hp shot on the way. Should hit 13.2 with that. I have a few other tricks to try as well. It would be nice to break into the 12s without losing the drivability.
