Greetings guys-
I hope I posted this in the correct section, if not my apologies!
Long story short I am trying to find someone who has experience in swapping out a Mark VIII engine (1995).

It seems all the mechanics locally (Augusta Georgia btw) either won't touch the car, or mucked it up in not knowing what they were doing. Another long story short, recent repair shop did a engine swap and didn't put any oil in the new/used engine, allowing it to lock up upon running

The car is coming back home tomorrow, dead yet pretty :(
No, I am NOT scrapping the car.

I heard horror stories in swapping out Mark VIII engines, I am not touching it!

*Right now* I am trying to locate yet another decent engine, but also was trying to locate anyone who can do the job reasonably. PM me with offers (the repair and/or engine, NOT the car). Will haul to your location if needed, provided its not tooooo far. Thanks guys!

I am way too far. Not a hard R&R though.

If you only had your tools in Georgia. Take a flight, get the motel paid for, fly back within 2, maybe 3 days. I bet all of that would be cheaper (with your swap price) than she paid the crew to R&R and then not put oil in. I don't think I have ever heard of that one before. That's like installing a new radiator and not putting water & anti-freeze in.

I would be taking someone to small claims court....

MRK7MISTRESS, you should send a PM to ( mlschultz ) here on the site and I'm sure he would know someone close to you or even "Injected Engineering" might knock it out for you or someone from there (IE) might do it at home on the side. Wouldn't hurt to ask. His name is Mike and he lives in Atlanta.

Thank you for the responses!

Um, prepare to read ;)

The story on '95 Mark VIII is I paid the shop to first put back together the intake valves (boyfriend had a friend to 'fix' the car and never finished, at first it had a coolant leak behind the intake valves). Said shop put everything back together- yet *somehow* a tiny washer fell into the engine. Cranked the engine and ran like sh*t with a bad skip.

Fyi the car ran fine before the intake 'hack' job. Except for the intake leak.

The shop said for them to fix this engine would require the heads to come off, machined and put back on. Since the engine had high miles, the bottom end would go bad soon with fresh heads on- which I have heard of such things before. Okay, cool.

Said shop offered I buy one of their used engines, I said 'no'; I had one.
Back story on engine, it came from a wrecked /running/ car. I heard it run. Crank spun, engine good. Came from a 1994 Mark VIII. Before the engine was installed into my car, the shop spun the crank- stating it was good also.

Also I asked them to replace the oil pan gasket (you know, piece of mind) amongst other things. They installed the engine, complaining how hard it was and stressed they will NEVER work on such a car again. The engine control fuse kept blowing, so they fixed that (please chime in what would cause that btw?). They crank the car- it ran fine a few minutes- began stumbling and engine locked up.

THEN they stated how at *that* time they poured oil in the engine. Oil spewed out the side of the block. I asked to speak with the shop owner, who never could be found, never could be contacted and never at the shop. Five months later they are threatening me to scrap the car or pay them their $800. Without proof of their 'not putting in oil til later' statement, its my word against theirs- in many ways I am SOL

So tomorrow I am paying half of the bill, because simply put I am not letting the car go to the scrap yard. No. Nor am I giving them $800 for a car I can't even drive. They agreed. Picking it up tomorrow and will post pictures of under the hood. I am curious as hell what they REALLY did under there.

And thank you guys again, I will contact "mlschultz" ASAP.
Atlanta is not far at all and have a truck with trailer, will travel!

Moral of this saga? Don't let just ANYONE work on your car:mad:! Just because they say they work on all makes doesn't mean they do. Even their advertisement states they work on all makes, which they will gladly tell you they won't touch Caddy Northstars and now Mark VIII's. Times like this I knew how to do engine swaps, the most major thing I ever done to a car was a tune up and oil change!

Ok, so you are going to pay $400 to get the car back, not running. Buy another engine to replace the one in it and pay for labor doing it. Yes, we must see pics of this car because a lot of money is going into this. Might want to consider finding another one from Georgia and doing an interior swap or something from the other car. Just an idea because the cars can be bought fairly cheap.

As for Mike Shultz, he should know someone that will do the job right for you. I know you wouldn't want to pay the shop he uses himself and I'm not even sure if they would do something that simple. Yes, to them, that R&R would be simple but I'm sure their rates aren't cheap at all. This is why I mentioned someone from the same shop that might do side work and give you a good rate. I can't speak for Mike but he'll let you know what he can and can't do or who he knows and doesn't know.

We really would like to see the car though. Sorry to hear about the problems you have had so far. Kinda sucks that all this started all because of a dropped washer.

Hi!

While visiting a friend in Augusta, I ran past (literally, I was out for a run!) a ford/lincoln/mercury performance specialist. I went in and was impressed with his knowledge of Mark VIII's, come to find out he owned one! lol Had him take out the old (really old) performance chip and install a new SCT. I have no idea what he would charge, but go in, check the place out and see what they say.
It's a husband wife owned business (well it was 5-6 yrs ago) looks to still be from the website: He and his wife are really nice. - his website is: http://www.fordspecialists.com/

Have no idea how much he will charge for what your needing though. Good luck and tell him Debi with 96 black Mark VIII says HI!!!

Nice site name by the way!

Well, if you have a truck/trailer..and don't mind the travel, Laser and I can start immediatly if you don't have any luck finding someone in your area

the car is gone!

Thank you all so very much for your prompt replies.
Sadly my boyfriend decided to put the car to rest after a VERY long discussion we had this morning once we brought the car home, looked everything over and doing the math just to get it back to where it was before all this. In short he said the cost was too much, and to focus on the other cars we have- BUT he promised to get another Mark VIII.

When we went to get the car this morning, the windshield was now busted , wires everywhere, hood off its hinges and has various car parts in it. Cut engine wiring (upon closer inspection) with bolts/nuts strewn everywhere. The mechanic who """""fixed"""" this car couldn't even look none of us in the eye /at all/. Not surprisingly the repair shop now has a massive amount of cars who ALL need engines because of their 'engine' guy.

Here are the pics of my late beauty, day of picking it up. RIP.

Today is a very sad day for me, I'll get over it. But damn, all over one teeny tiny effing WASHER!!!! :(

..I smell law suit!!

That's horrible..I would make you an offer on the grill.. But I may be going back to a Gen2 nose. You could make decent cash parting her out tho

Ironically I did save the grill and various other little things (the badges and buttons mainly). I am weird, I like to keep pieces of my 'lost' cars as mementos.

That car is probably a giant pretty shiny metal cube by now.
Its in the recycling yard as of 12:36pm today :(

Anyhow, I took pictures because simply put, the car was NOT in this condition when towed to the shop. The busted windshield really burned my blood (aside from the oil-less engine). But the car is long gone now. I do smell a class action lawsuit brewing however.

EVERY car that sat with my the Mark VIII at the repair shop magically needs a engine after their 'repair' job. When my car came there it was just three other cars. Now its a damn flock of cars out there, hoods unhinged, wires hanging out and everything.

You got some money from the scrap right?

I'd burn the place down but wouldn't want them to collect on ins.

You could have kept it for a week or so and removed some parts or put it in the "parts for sale section" and simply said "hurry and name the part you want before it gets crushed" and you would have made some money.

As for the flock of cars they have now, there should be a flock of people going in and out of that shop. I would try my best to catch as many of them as I could and find out what their situation is and go to court with that. No wires should have been strewed anywhere and the windshield should not have been busted. "IF" he has it setting inside a fence, he is responsible for that car. His insurance should cover any damage done.

Anyway, I'm sure you have looked but thought I'd show you this. Never know what it's about until you go see it or call and ask about it. Might even be the one missing in action.

That's just disgusting that they would :q:q:q:q you over like that!

You do know 99% of the people on this forum would have killed for that black interior.

Some of us even have land to hide bodies, or could even drop someone off at the local gas/burger place...they don't sell gas...and you only eat there if you REALLY like people..muhahahaha

I am so sorry about your loss... I think... no, I know I would be in jail, they would have arrested me about half way thru killing the shop employees with my bare hands.... what a shame...

If you would like for your Mark to live on, I would be honored to purchase the grill. Tux, my 96 LSC's is starting to peel horrably. Tux, my black on black on black Mark VIII LSC is honored by having parts from 3 other LVC Mark VIII owners passed Marks.

I think we are related - I have the same steering wheel cover... dang those pics are sooo hard to look at.... like the murder scene of my child... they need to be taken care of... torch each one of the the @$#$#^%

I just can't believe the shop... I can't even fathom it....

Deepest Sympathy

Mistress... I am curious, why is the engine/accessory on in that pic? Also, why in the heck did they peel the passenger door panel off?

The door handles, the side mirrors, the headlights, the front bumper, the seats... that is a nice chunk of change right there!!!!

Remind me never to make you mad! But I know of some people I could use you to take care of!

Coil packs (why four coil packs anyway?), plug wires, headlights, corner lights, driver and passenger air bags for people who bought wrecks or hit deers, hood.

OMG I will call that number first thing in the morning! Thanks!
I have been keeping an eye on every black Mark VIII in this town- one of which has been driving around with a New York tag for 10 months and is not military. Hmmmmmmmmmm :shifty:

Far as the interior, I caught hell piecing it together :(. Ordered the door panels from a member here, seats came from a local parts car and the rest was bits and pieces found at the pick a part yards. Fresh paint job. The body was virtually fully restored.

When I saw it yesterday it was like a different car! Busted windshield, ignition packs and car parts all over, spark plugs everywhere, door panel peeled off, its a long list- but the car was NOT like that when I took it there. What you saw in the video is how it was- a clean black lincoln- except for the canvas top.

Believe you me I really wanted to park the car at the house and give it a chance, but my boyfriend just said he just don't have the cash or space to do another engine *and* now body restoration.

I did ask one person/customer who was at the repair shop. He has a 1983 Cadillac which the shop installed a 'new' engine, one of their engines. The guy said ever since he got his car back it smokes and dumps oil everywhere- which it didn't before. All this was for a engine gasket put in his car, I didn't ask which one. Long story short they (the shop) won't touch his car either.

And no, the shop does not have anything behind a fence- they don't even have a fence. Or the sign stating "not responsible for cars on the yard". None of that. Their ad states they work on all makes and all models- but when you ask them they WON'T touch Cadillac Northstar engines and now Mark VIII's.

Only local Mark VIII I know/seen for sale is two. One is a busted white 1993 for $3,600 (wtf?!!) and a navy blue 1994 laying on its face for $4,700. And yep, they both sat for nearly a year now

Income tax season isn't coming fast enough. I hate being "Mark VIII-less"
Couldn't sleep worth a damn last night. Might have to part ways with the grill, every time I see it I tear up :(

I am flabbergasted.
Heard plenty horror stories about repair shops, but your photos and descriptions tell a story worse than anything I've ever seen.
SUE the bastages! I can't believe that after screwing up your car that badly they actually had the gall to charge you money for it!

That's messed up, to say the least. I think it would be worth the time, money, and effort to file a lawsuit. If nothing else, you end up with the satisfaction of getting them, possibly, shut down, and your money back, plus value for the car, plus damages.

Please let me know about the grill if you do decide to sell it. Very serious about purchasing it!!!
