Is there a vacuum line behind the engine?

i understand your money situation, but then you say you are gonna take it to lincoln? how are you gonna afford lincoln to fix the car lmao!
and if you seriously dont trust me to work on your car unless you can watch me like a hawk its a better thing for both of us not to do this. good luck derek hope you get it figured out.

Dumb ass. I paid $71 for OEM plenum gaskets. They leaked two weeks later. Now I have Felpros that were $20 and they have held up great.

The dealer will rape you. Dont take Ed Halls crown away.

Jamie it's not that I don't trust your work, but last time I left the car and you would say it would be done day X or to come to see it day X, that day would not come. That was one of the most stressful situations I've been in. If I'm there with the car, I know it is being worked on and it will be leaving with me. Secondly a second pair of eyes is always good especially since I would eye everything, that ensures things like my idler pulley flying off won't happen again. Things are easily overlooked so with two people that isn't as likely to happen.

I wasn't going to pay for Lincoln to fix it, I was going to pay them to check with a smoker to ensure the gaskets are in fact the vacuum leak, because doing research shows that some people have fixed the gasket and the problem continued. It ended up being their o-ring in the IMRC. So I wanted to make sure I knew what was wrong.

However I used the mirror like Sapper said and definitely found that the gasket towards the back right next to the injectors is what is leaking.

There also seems to be a massive hissing sound coming from the PCV valve area. I checked the lines-no cracks. The PCV valve was new (aftermarket) so I don't know if it just doesn't fit right, or if that rubber grommet that goes in the valve cover needs to be replaced.

i told you if you got it to me friday night i would have it done friday night because i had somewhere to be saturday, but its cool though, i'd rather not have the aggrivation of working on that :q:q:q:qing car anyway. that thing has already taken enough years off my life span. i'm just asking for headaches when i say i will help you anyway.

Do you want me to pull up multiple threads where people said the Felpro gasket did not line up properly? One of them even has pictures of how bad it was! This has nothing to do with being stupid, I don't want to fix it multiple times. Sure I'd rather go the cheaper route, but if the holes don't even line up properly that's the last thing I need is another headache.

I thought the OEM had specific characteristics that made them sufficiently different from that of the aftermarket gaskets when pertaining to the intake manifold.

At this point its kind of Jamie's way or the highway, and people with tight pockets can't be choosey. It looks to me like, let jamie fix it, or it wont get fixed at all, and on that note, any one here who has turned wrenches for profit will tell you the same thing I will... I cannot stand someone watching over me, when I worked in the dealership, if a customer walked up to me while I was working on thier car, I would quit working. Nothing pisses me off more than to feel like I'm being watched... Just my .02 cents

nah its cool dan i dont want to fix it, he needs it fixed right thats not something i am capable of, i normally just wing shyt and hope for the best, remember, i'm a shade tree mechanic. its best i dont go near it.

Well you are right that my car is a gigantic :q:q:q:qing headache. Why do you think I want to get rid of it? I'm tired of the aggravation this :q:q:q:qing car causes. This single car has given me more problems than all 14 cars I've owned in my lifetime combined! That is pretty freaking bad! Now I don't have a choice but to keep it because my wife took it to work today so I could take her Volvo in to have control arms done and she wants me to keep it.

This thing causes me so much freaking stress it is insane.

I wouldn't have been able to get it to you on Friday early because of the issue with my son.

I've spent over $4 :q:q:q:qing thousand dollars on this car this year... are you telling me you wouldn't start to get a little bit more cautious with every step that is taken after that?

I never said you wing :q:q:q:q, but are you saying you never made mistakes on my car? Did my idler pulley not come flying off the car while I was driving it? Was there not other things that had to be fixed because you overlooked them? Wasn't it you that said you don't need to use a torque wrench because you know how tight things need to be? I want to make sure that manifold is tightened in sequence with proper torque specs so the problem doesn't persist. I have a feeling half the problem is you didn't sequence the bolts on the manifold or tighten them according to specs when you put the engine back together.

Since this is the last of my money I need to make sure it counts. Those gaskets should have been replaced when the engine was rebuilt. According to EVERYTHING i've read if you take that manifold off you are NOT supposed to re-use the gasket. You did, now I get to pay for that again. I'm not pointing fingers here, I'm merely pointing out that because of a mistake that was made due to not having either the proper knowledge or doing the appropriate research, the expense passes on to me.

With the amount of money I spent I could have had a full C head swap and not had any of these issues. But instead I'm stuck with this freaking heap that still isn't working right.

Jamie you are good at what you do, but as you yourself have said you are not a mechanic. You know these cars well but are still learning. You know WAY more about these cars than me, but it doesn't mean you are always right or know everything about them. As I've said over and over and over throughout this thread being that I'm almost completely broke I don't have the luxury of this fix not working.

I wouldn't watch over someone at a dealership because if they screwed up my car I would have legal recourse. I see Jamie as a friend so that is not a thought that ever crosses my mind. With him I just like to be around my car, his work is usually VERY thorough, however sometimes two heads are better than one. At times I was able to help him on the rebuild, not many times, but there were times.

you arent pointing fingers but you certainly are doing a damn good job of making me look like a piece of :q:q:q:q and because you constantly hammer the living piss out of your car that it runs like dog :q:q:q:q because of me, maybe if you calm the :q:q:q:q down once in a while and dont treat your car like john force treats his funny car you wouldnt have as many problems. and whats funny about me overlooking things is because i had someone one on the phone constantly crying he needed his car back like yesterday, you didnt seem to understand a motor swap doesnt take 4 hours, yet you insisted i make it take 4 hours, you know what dude when you rush someone to get a job that big done in no time, things get over looked. and where do you get off blaming me for your gaskets being reused? did you supply me with new ones, and you were in such a :q:q:q:qing rush you wouldnt have had time to even get me the gaskets to change. i bent over backwards for you and took that whole job straight up my ass trying to be a good person and help someone who was in serious trouble and this is how you write off for the whole world to see what i did for you. you are the kind of people i regret lending a hand to for anything, because you are abusive to your car when things dont go right you turn and point fingers at everyone but yourself. just remember who got you in this whole situation and how it happend and you want to make it clear to everone that i forgot to tighten the bolt in your idler pulley, lmfao dont worry derek i will never lay another hand on your car that way when it blows up or you smash it into a tree you cant blame me for it. this was one of the biggest mistakes i have made in my life bar none. and as far as what you said above as you consider me a friend, you got a real :q:q:q:qty way of showing that you consider me a friend bashing the hell out of me for all your problems, do me a favor and dont consider me a friend anymore it will be best for both of us, i wont contaminate your thread anymore, good luck.

I am having the same problem. eratic idle, runs hot, sound like a vacuum leak. my mechanic seems to think I have a cracked head but he also told me that compression is good in all cylinders. I told him I think the EGR needs to be replaced. what should I tell him to check or how to check if it is this dprf thing?

WTF?! Jamie everytime I post something you jump in and make me look like :q:q:q:q. So when I finally step in and defend myself you say I'm the a$$hole? I don't get it? Maybe you consider friends only people that are submissive and let you dominate them, but that isn't me. I'm sorry but if your man enough to dish :q:q:q:q out, then be man enough to take it back. I've let you walk on me time and time again in here and kick me in the nuts, meanwhile I keep a lot of different :q:q:q:q to myself even though I want so badly to fire back for you stepping on my toes.

Case in point I was getting rid of my hood struts, someone was interested, you came in and said how they suck. I was like WTF! What you didn't know was they were defective and I had them fixed, and new pieces sent so the issue was no longer there. Because of your comment I was left sol. You've done that to me so many times in here I can't even count. Yet you ask me not to say certain things and even now I will keep them to myself because I AM A MAN OF MY WORD and I won't say something you've asked me not to say. See, that's how a REAL friend acts!

Yes I was on you about my engine...that was after you told me the other place had a good engine and it ended up not being good. That was after you looked it over and said it was good and it ended up not being good. That was after I had to pay you not only to put the first motor in, but to then put the next motor in since the first motor you told me to buy didn't work out. I banked on your advice because you were the expert on Marks. So of course when I was paying twice to have the same thing done I was starting to get a little jumpy. This also was after multiple times you would say you can't work on it during the week because of work, and then when the weekend came you would say you need to spend time with your family or you had a headache. Ok, that's acceptable to a degree, but when that excuse kept coming up of course I was up your ass! Any normal person would have been.

Jamie try looking back at the old threads about my build and look at all of the scapegoating you did. This is what you do, you offer to do something for someone, then you make them look like and feel like :q:q:q:q the whole time. That defeats the purpose of the action. I got tired of that, and when you came in this thread with your emotional fit I finally decided to stand my ground!

That's pretty ignorant of you to start a battle with me in a thread where I was simply trying to help myself. If you were a true friend you would have offered advice or whatever to help me locate the problem rather than pump me full of ultimatums, and then cry victim after.

See this is why I've layed low lately...sure many on here are great, but I got so sick of the drama. It was like every thread no matter how technical I would try to make it would somehow turn into a complete bitch fest. This is pure insanity!!!

:q:q:q:q, have fun man! I just threw THOUSANDS at this car in a matter of months and to no avail the car still doesn't drive right! My best advice to you (and I'm being serious, I'm not being sarcastic) is to spend countless hours doing research on here, and on all of the other Lincoln sites. The best bet is to start from the oldest threads first. You'll notice the older the threads are, the less drama was contained within them. They are more packed full of useful, knowledgeable information. When you've done enough research you should start to understand your problems better. It's not a guarantee, but it's your best course of action.

Once you get enough knowledge you then can post up and have a bunch of info to add and to say doesn't apply to your situation. this should help others in giving you more appropriate information. Without the proper backstory you'll just get a bunch of guesses (since without the right info that's the best they can give).

You've said you have tools...and you have access to download the full CD repair manual...why couldn't you just fix it?

I feel pretty,
Oh, so pretty,
I feel pretty and witty and bright!
And I pity
Any girl who isn't me tonight.

La la la la la la la la.......

Really WEST SIDE Story???? Your music teacher made you watch that too?? :) Lol

That's what I'm trying to get at. I think I can do it. The more I look at it, the more it seems like something I can tackle. Of course the fuel aspect scares me a bit, but looking at the bolts none look like they are out of the way where I would have to remove the wiper cowel etc.

It seems like if I removed the fuel rails it will just lift right out (of course after removing the bolts. I've done the ps valve cover with no issues, so I don't see why I should have much of a problem with this.

In my situation I really need to save the money so I think I'm going to tackle this one.

Only question I have is about gaskets. when looking at it I'm a bit confused. Ford says there is a gasket above the IMRC and below it. that's it. However there is a gaskets that goes around the whole manifold directly next to the injectors. That is what's leaking. So what is that exact manifold called? The local Ford dealer didn't know, and neither did the local auto parts stores.

nevermind i'm not going on any more

No need to, everyone here knows what you have done to try to help.
You know your mark VIII's , by god your a rocket scientist!:D

I just hope this whole experience wont stop you from helping people.
