Some pics from my '97 LSC hub swap. Lots of cleaning to do. Fought for a week or so to get the rear hubs off, but thankfully no half shaft damage. Now looking for a local shop to press in new bearings. Using stock calipers with drilled & slotted Cobra rotors. Will probably go with a variation of the SpeedStar wheel in black & chrome if I buy new, but looking for a good deal on used set while putting cash away for new.

The mod to the knuckles?


Also I have always gotten the shafts out of the knuckle with a light tap, never needed a tool to push them out.


Did you say you are using the stock caliper on the front Cobra rotors? How does that work?
 
The rear spindles need to be modified slightly for the relocation brackets to work. They just need to be filed down.
 
In the last picture that shows the knuckle there is a small ear next to one of the bolt holes that has to be ground down to accept the stand off bracket for the caliper.Can you use cobra front rotors on the back of a lincoln?If so I wish I had known that.
 
Yeah but just the tab on the bolt hole right? For some reason when he said "mod" I thought of something else. I forgot to take my anti retardation meds. :lol:

I have often thought of that mod and thought thats what you were talking about. It seems like it could be done but I dont have metal working skills.
 
I am in the middle of doing the same thing to my Mark now.Just waiting on a spare spindle or knuckle(What is correct term)Both areas next to the bolt holes need shaving for the bracket to seat properly.I did mine on a large sander which allowed me to shave down the areas parallel to each other and the bracket fits nice.I also turned the OD of the rotor just a tick because there is enough slp fit where the rotor could touch the caliper.Issue resolved.I am looking for sway bar to body mount bushings that "FIT" the sway bar.Has anyone found those?

Jamie (or Peter)is sending me a spare and I may have it friday which gives me the weekend to do the change out.I know about the mod to the caliper as well but it was easier just to turn down the rotor and save all the work with a file.Thanks for the offer of finding the spindle BTW.I also picked up a spare hood from Jamie with some ideas of a scoop or adding recessed scoop from a cobra or something along those lines.In the meantime I keep finding things to replace(spend money on) with my Mark but I dont mind,beats giving it to the gubmint.

Ah hell why not!:) That is one georgous Mark VIII. I pressed the bearings out of my spindles and man what a smell.Smells just like an oil derreck up close and personal.Beats the :q:q:q:q out of a chicken house I guess.Got the other spindle modded and bolted the bracket in place.Purple power is one hell of a cleaner BTW and it really does a number on all the grime.The big change over happens tuesday.
 
One piece at a time, I guess. I got the knuckle bushings, then found the passenger side inner UCA bushing shot, just ordered 2 today. If any of you have a good source for the correct PBR Cobra caliper banjo bolts , please reply. Also searching for the right brake hoses, front and back.
 
You need the fine thread ones or coarse thread ones? I may have what you need somewhere in my garage.

If you have the latter Cobra ones then its the same banjo bolts you have. If you have the early calipers or Mach or Bullit calipers then you need the fine thread banjo bolt from Ford. When I ordered mine I could only get them from Ford. You will also need the Ford copper washers as they are thicker then the aftermarket ones and the bolt will hit the caliper if you try and use the aftermarket washers.
 
hub mod

I now have mine all finished as of 1215 am.Make sure you seat the hubs all the way like I should have done the first time.I also replaced the axels as well.While I was at it I rebuilt the front end and used nothing but moog parts.I will only use moog parts from now on.Be careful ordering those rear inner control arm bushings off of evilbay.they show the correct picture with the eccentric but they sent me the outers and now I have to send them off the africa to be cured in a bucket of elephant :q:q:q:q before I can get a refund.Same with arnot upper control arms.I was not impressed to say the least.Beware fellas.Hope yours goes well.
 
So I will be attempting my hub swap this weekend. Here's what I have:

Front
2 front mustang hubs with ABS rings
2 Mark 8 rotors modded (just using the stock calipers)
2 new spindle nuts
2 new brake pads

Rear
2 '03 cobra hubs
2 new hub bearings from Max
2 relocation brackets w/ allen head bolts from Ed
2 '03 cobra rotors
2 new spindle nuts
2 new brake pads

Hub Puller, torque wrench, blue loctite, brake cleaner, dremel for rear mod.

Have I missed anything? Maybe I should get some rear bushings just in case? The front is already completely rebuilt.

Got a smokin deal for some 96 cobras with Michelin Pilots 2k miles for only $250 or I would've just bought wheels with the Mark pattern instead of the swap.

I have read the hub swap project link, but any updated advice would be appreciated.
