How to get into the 13s?

Technically, it's not 'ported'. The entrance to the individual stock intake tubes have been radiused and the inside had been polished and coated. Porting usually implies removing material to make the air passages larger. There's nothing you can do to these intakes like porting except right at the flanges which is simply gasket matching.

That said, the swap did make a definite improvement from 4500 rpm and up. And it is still the 'stock' intake unlike the venerable Cobra intake swap everyone goes with. IMHO the stock Gen1 intake has advantages for naturally aspirated configurations while the Cobra intake is best suited for power adder configurations. :)

This particular intake had been cut apart, worked on and welded back. I was actually having one done exactly the same when I found this one for sale from a Mark VIII being parted.

I take it they cut along the top part of the box where all the tubes go in, and then welded around the entire perimeter.

That just sounds like too much work for a small benefit.

You guys must be running at 500 feel below sea level, down hill, with a tail wind. I have never seen a bone stock Mark VIII run a mid 14. I'm not saying it hasn't happened, I just have never seen it.

Thomas

mine went 14.6 stone stock.

quick side note...

Does anyone know where I can get a metal Intake tube for a Gen 1?

my buddies 93 went 14.9 stock.. except it was sensor lowered..with 160k on it. ..and mid summer

and his GIRLFRIEND was driving !!!.. she had it in drive and floored it from a dead idle... 14.9 !!! .. she ran better than him.. he went 15.0

my 96 lsc has maf, chip, catback exhaust.. when i get my rear done im hitting up Atco... im looking for 13.90's

get a 255 its like the same price, then you can spray 150 wet like me! and put your self comfortabley into the 12's.

Mike Gilbert/Nightsky went 13.98 with 373 gears, exhaust and "NO TUNE"...and it was done with the stock air box and paper filter.

his car is a freakishly fast 93 model.

Freakishly great conditions too if I remember correctly. Similar to what we get here in NJ.

Geno,
Everyone knows Jersey cars are faster because of all the methane in the air,
It gets sucked into the intake and acts likes nitrous !!:D

so whats the best way to pick up my lost time?
mods are as follows,
3:73 gears, Jmod, full true duel exhaust on stock manifolds with high flow cats and x pipe, custom intake tube, 2 deg, colder plugs, 100 shot dry, msd coils and wires. SCT chip
on a 94, with street tires and my best time was a 13.6, sounds like I should be considerably faster

What was your MPH in the 1/4? And on a side note, I'd loose the dry shot and get a wet shot.

13's

I have 3.73's balanced drive shaft, high stall converter, removed 3rd cat, straight pipe to back, ported and polished heads, gasket matched intake, isky cams, under drive pulley's, 1" throttle body spacer, lightning MAS, and custom air intake with 3 stage foam filter, and custom tune. Best run 13.2 "slightly above sea level"

im running 150 wet on 1 step colder plugs? why two step? How much better/difference is there with lightning mafs? Does the tune have to be setup to be optimal for that or does it just provide more flow?
